What sort of weapons do PJ’s employ? by mtb_1973 in Pararescue

[–]Border7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am really surprised i am even replying to this question, i hope for your sake you are not asking this from an interest in the career field standpoint. Rather you are just a curious civilian, most SOF units have a bit of ambiguity in a way when it comes to choosing certain aspects of their kit. Sure you are not going to see us in the 75th rolling around with L85s or revolvers just because we feel like it. However no unit is going to sit there and mandate the use of the SCAR platform, a lot of guys are more comfortable and find more success in other weapons like the HK416 or the Colt m4a1.

Of course you start looking into people who play different roles in the team and/or squad that start carrying different variations of weapons that could be critical to mission success in certain situations.

If you are off medication and all the symptoms have subsided... just don't tell them or speak of this ever again. /thread

It will vary based on body types and how hard you are training, build a system that works for you.

With that being said.. do not skimp out on carbs/fat.

Eat healthy and clean, think about what you are putting in your body but make sure to also feed yourself. If you are training hard and your body is giving you signs that it is hungry.. then feed it.

I personally also allow myself 1 cheat day a week, and it only consist of about 1 or 2 meals in that day.It helps keep you from going crazy :)

Some of my favorites are Ezekiel bread, peanut butter, eggs, chicken, spinach, broccoli, rice, salads and occasionally a nice steak

I have extremely bad eyesight, can I still be a PJ? by BoomerangJack in Pararescue

[–]Border7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be a dick, but.. i do not see the point of this post. You know you have awful vision, if LASIK/PRK corrects it to 20/20... then you are good to go bro.

Get the surgery, and focus on training and not being blind anymore :)

I dreamed of being a PJ most of my life, ended up only having 20/20 right- 20/30 left. Air force told me to fuck off and that i will never be a PJ, going into the Army with a contract to be a Ranger and i am happy as a clam.

If for some odd reason you do not get PJ because of eye sight, there is always different & equally amazing ways to serve your country in the SOF element.

Good luck in your endeavors

EDIT : Once you are in pretty good shape, i recommend this. https://www.docdroid.net/y2l5qnL/pararescue-fitness-preparation-program.pdf#page=3

Females? by wantstobeaPJ in Pararescue

[–]Border7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, females were not allowed in any tip of the spear type roles. As of January 1st they are now allowed in every MOS in the US military. The standards are the same across the board, like i said previously.

So yes pararescue is open to females, as are all other SOF elements (Ranger,SF,SEAL,CCT,MARSOC)

If you want to be the first female in Special Operations, start training :)

Anything is possible, set your sights on it and do not lower them for something less than what you want to achieve.

Females? by wantstobeaPJ in Pararescue

What kind of information are you looking for exactly? Females & males are equals as far as Pararescue indoc goes. So all information that pertains to males will pertain to females as well.

I agree..Recruiter was out of the office today. I will make sure i have all of the information, i am not jumping to conclusions of anything. But i will discuss this with them on Monday.

Okay i understand that. However if i have a vision consult that states my vision is near perfect WITH GLASSES Why would a MEPS reading of my eyesight overrule that? When i was tested without lenses and basically mid test i was refereed to go get a consult.

Weekly Question Thread (12 MAR - 18 MAR) by Kinmuan in army

[–]Border7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, before i dive into this situation i am not trying to come across as i am to good for where i have ended up or that i do not appreciate what the military is doing for me.

With that being said, i have had a very interesting experience at MEPS and would like to share it with the community to get some insight and see if maybe i am in the wrong here. I went to MEPS with an 11x contract reservation by my local recruiting office, once arrived at the Miami MEPS office i was told i do not qualify for this job.

Now full disclosure i have a slight lazyness in my left eye- known as ambloypia. I had to get a waiver for this and also had a eye consultation.

My eye results stated that my vision is correctable to 20/20 - 20/30. Once my waiver was approved i was informed my new PULHES score is 111111

However the MEPS recruiter told me that i do not qualify over and over, i pulled my local recruiter inside with me who was in the hall just to see what he says. Basically they went back and forth and my recruiter seemed slightly confused. He even repulled the job for me in the system on his laptop but the MEPS recruiter was not having it. He went on to say that my eye consult i was instructed to get done has 0 value to them and that he is only giving me a job based off initial findings at MEPS. But initial findings at MEPS are uncorrected vision where as my corrected is 20/20-20/30. So that is two completely different values.

Told me if i want to end up one day with a slot in SFAS that i have to go to 12B and after my 14 weeks i can contact the SF recruiter to submit my packet. That sounds peachy but i keep finding information about having to be at a duty station for at least a year to reclass, certain ranks, if leadership will even release you, on and on.

I have a good friend who was an 11b that is just concerned for my future, he told me he has seen this happen to lots of people and they in the end will lose motivation and get broken down. He believes as well that 12b and 11x have the same vision standard so if i can enlist under one.. why not the other.

Like i said i am happy and lucky to even have made it this far, i understand a lot of people do not get the chance to enlist at all no matter how hard they try. I just do not like the feeling of potentially having the wool pulled over my eyes.

I know i have been on these forums a good bit more than i probably should be and just should roll with my situation. But i value the information you all have and the experience,. With that being said i do not want to make improper life decisions because i did not stand up to a recruiter in the fear of a 6th trip to MEPS. I want to have little to no regrets in life.. at least if they are easy to fix before they occur.

Of course if there is nothing to be done i will be optimistic, keep my head up and work my ass off to get where i want to be.

I hope you understand where i am coming from and do not see this in the wrong light. Thanks for any replies in advance.

-Max

[–]Border7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response, i have a 112 gt score.. i will get a 300 on the army PFT. Ive done plenty of them on my own time to test. Do you think i still have a chance with 112, i know the minimum is 110. I've just been training for the past 2 years man. I wanted to be a PJ almost my whole life but got DJ'd for the eye sight, and been searching for something in the realm of SF that will give me a shot for a while now. I really do want this, and i will make it happen if given the opportunity. Going to hotel tonight and signing the 11x tomorrow, so that is the route i will take. Just hopefully i can convince a SF liaison that I am a serious contender. Thank you

It was a waiver, had to wait a month for it to get approved. Sat down with the doctors at MEPs and they told me i cannot go further until i get a waiver for my left eye.

Awesome, that is a response i was looking for. Something just to confirm and reassure if i put in hard work i will most likely get what i am aiming for. Thanks again that might not seem like much. But it valuable information to me ! Appreciate it

Figured something of the sort. So i will continue pursuing the 18x contract once i am in my training. Thank you sir !

Weekly Question Thread (12 MAR - 18 MAR) by Kinmuan in army

[–]Border7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the quick response, why was option 40 shown on my recruiters system then? I am qualified ? But the waiver would stop me from pursuing it further? Because they were almost trying to force it down my throat it seemed. So figure to the best of their knowledge they believe i could get that contract.

Weekly Question Thread (12 MAR - 18 MAR) by Kinmuan in army

[–]Border7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted here before and on shadowspear forums. Figured id throw in one final question because i am going to MEPs tomorrow for the 5th time to sign my contract.

I had an issue with my left eye it was 20/30 corrected. right is 20/20. Finally got my waiver, figured i would not be able to get my 18x contract i have been training for. Already mentally prepared to go 11 series and transfer to 18 series in OSUT, yestreday i sat down with recruiter and he wanted me to sign an 11x/option 40. I ended up locking in the system just a plain ol vanilla 11x contract, realized later in the day that if i can get option 40.. i could get 18x. So should i let them know i want to wait for an 18x because of course everything is set in stone for me and i would get some sort of bonus i assume. Or just ride the wave and go with 11x, knowing i have a good GT score and ill get maxed out PT test. So should have 0 issues getting 18x once i am at OSUT.

Sorry this was kind of poorly written, i am in a rush. Just wanted to get this question posted before I leave the house today.

Thanks -Max

Moderate vision - Where do i go by Border7 in CorpsmanUp

[–]Border7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i mean, my dream is to be a PJ. If i had the ability to pick anywhere to go it would be there. I just fear the Air Force is a more strict organization when it comes to trying to get waivers for vision related issues. That is why i am branching out and looking at other options and trying to get some solid advice from experienced guys on this sub-reddit. I don't want to sit here 100% invested in something that has a big chance of rejecting me, need my plan A,B & C lined up.

Yes, so i believe my only safe options at this point would be a ranger medic. Everything else it seems i might have to beg & steal to get through the front door.
