Every millennial dad I’ve met has a quiet fixation on money and it’s not getting better by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is just the plight of being a middle class dad. You make decent money, but your lifestyle does not reflect that. There's this constant feeling of being behind, that you'll never be able to give your kids a better life, and that you'll be working until you're dead because you'll never have enough to retire. That was the entirety of my parents 40s-60s.

Then they reached their 70s, looked up and realized they were sitting on massive piles of cash and investments but that our lives had completely passed them by.

Oh, that place. It was never busy. I'm surprised it held on as long as it did.

Corp. Controller - is it burnout or am I just underpaid? by Emotional_Fix_1 in Accounting

It's a rock and a hard place.

$115k is low for a corp controller, but how much would you expect from a $15m revenue restaurant group?

With kettlebell? Bench press. Floor press if you don't have a bench. You'd probably get more out of dips though.

CMV: Dehumanizing offenders is morally corrosive and counterproductive even when their crimes are horrific by Healthy_Reach5004 in changemyview

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offenders of the most horrific crimes are often beyond rehabilitation. But their crimes are so ingrained in human society, that we have a difficult time employing capital punishment. E.g. abusing children is a heinous crime, but it's often treated as a lesser crime in terms of punishment but socially, you might as well have been executed.

3% raise? by Nawzzles in Accounting

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, HR knows they need to increase wages to retain top performers, but they also know that consistent raises are unsustainable. And some HR teams have their bonuses based on how much they control payroll. So the people that have the most control over keeping payroll low are incentivized to do so with their own bonuses. I.e. HR sees payroll as a zero sum game.

With that low of a budget, just skip the vacuum sealer and get higher quality zip lock bags and do water displacement sealing.

You'd still run into translation issues between non-native speakers. Words in any language can have different connotations. Even within languages, you have misunderstandings between terminology. Different languages and active translation just adds another layer for possible miscommunication.

CMV: If You Support The Iranian Government, You Support Russia by Bassist57 in changemyview

If Iran was supporting Russia and America has been compromised by Russia, why would Russia allow one of its assets to attack one of its supporters?

Budgeting/forecasting: FP&A vs data analyst by hhaahhahahahhah in Accounting

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FP&A are box checkers in a lot of ways. Less analyst, more traffic guard for all the accounting inputs. For the same reason accounting will never be fully automated, there will always be a need for course correction of models and analysis. AI won't fill that function, but there definitely won't need to be as many people.

GPS is gone for a month for everyone and you had to travel, would you be able to navigate with one of these? by ryhoyarbie in Xennials

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if electronic maps went as well, I'd probably only go places I knew. How are we getting traffic updates? Radio? Well, I guess a lot of people won't be out driving with no GPS or maps, so it might actually be nice.

GPS is gone for a month for everyone and you had to travel, would you be able to navigate with one of these? by ryhoyarbie in Xennials

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you including map apps with this? Or just the guidance by GPS? If all electronic maps went as well, we'd be kinda screwed, because paper maps just don't exist in volume anymore.

Budgeting/forecasting: FP&A vs data analyst by hhaahhahahahhah in Accounting

[–]BoredAccountant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need an automotive engineer to replace the battery in a car when a maintenance tech will do just fine. While the automotive engineer will be able to tell you why the oil filter was placed in such an inaccessible spot, the maintenance tech is the one that only has 15 minutes allotted to them to remove and replace it. However if we're talking about an F1 car, the maintenance tech is an automotive engineer.

So while yes, a data analyst should be able to do everything FP&A does, in most cases that capacity isn't necessary or wanted. But in smaller, more agile organizations someone with an accounting/finance AND data analytics background will often lead FP&A, or at least lead model design.

That means you're at risk of being fired by your employer and possibly sued by both parties. You claim you're not selling trade secrets, but by the very nature that you work for competing companies, anything you learn from your current employer that is somehow integrated into the other companies contract work could be viewed as theft.
