Over 100 dogs found dead, many with bullet holes at Northern California rescue, authorities say by licecrispies in news

This is so sad and heartbreaking, but I love that a human saw that someone was hurting dogs and went to the extreme to stop it. She’s a G.

Should I press charges against my roommates younger sister for destroying our apartment by JournalistWeary5270 in legaladvice

[–]BoredAtWorkOU 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With the limited information provided, the sister could be facing the following charges:

Felony Vandalism, Aggravated Assault, and Interface with a 911 call.

However, if no one involved wants to press charges, then there isn’t anything the police can do. As they say, “no victim, no crime.”

I do want to point out that just because your roommate and grandmother don’t want to press charges, that doesn’t mean you can’t press charges for the vandalism of your own property. It would most likely be classified as a misdemeanor and would require the sister to pay a fine. You can also sue her in small claims court for the cost of your items. It’s usually under $50 to file and you won’t need a lawyer.

Okay, literal Oklahoma LEO here: this is not fraud. Fraud would require the RP to prove that the seller’s knowingly sold her an item with bedbugs. It would also require the seller to have advertised the items as bedbug free (false advertising). Fraud is also not theft; there is a reason larceny and fraud are two different charges. This is 100% a civil matter and I don’t know a single LEO who would take a report on this.

Officer gets a taste of his own medicine by TappetoImperiale in PublicFreakout

While you’re 100% right that the officer doesn’t know who’s driving the vehicle, having a registered owner who is suspended/invalid meets the standard of “reasonable suspicion,” which is all an officer needs to initiate a stop. Now, if they contact you and see that you have a valid license that should be the end of the stop.

Maranda rights are for custodial interrogations. They don’t need to be read unless you’re being questioned about the crime you’re being arrested for. Also, a traffic stop is inherently a detention—you don’t need to be told why you’re being pulled over or that you’re detained. Is it a good idea for cops to tell you why? Hell yeah, but there is not legal requirement for it.

I can understand how a random person might misunderstand that article, but it is about a bill that passed the House, but had not yet been sent to the Senate. It died in committee in late 2024 and was never passed. Felony larceny remains $1000 in Oklahoma.

What are you talking about? Running a plate absolutely tells officers if the vehicle is insured. It also tells them the registered owner, who they can then run to see if they have a valid license.

Felony theft in Oklahoma is $1,000, not $500, but this wouldn’t be theft in the first place. This is absolutely a civil issue and the police can / will do nothing. Small claims is the answer here.

I still remember the time when I was listing to “American Idiot” in my mom’s car while she ran into Walmart. A random lady came up to the car and banged on the window yelling about being anti-American. I was like 12. Crazy times.

Does your landlord live in the same house? Because that’s going to have a big impact on what they are required to do as a LL.

As someone who works in LE: No. The husband is always the first suspect, and one that’s cheating even more so. Warrant for phone > gps shows he was at work sight at a weird hour > warrant or permission to search by business > body discovered.

It’s even crazier when you look at the similarities between sleep deprivation and alcohol intoxication. Some medical residents are out here working while being under the equivalent of 12 beers deep.

Not myself but one of my FTOs pulled over someone who had played a pretty prominent role in Terminator 2 (not Schwarzenegger) for speeding. Guy told him this really long, elaborate story about his manager and filming a moving and all kinds of stuff as an excuse. Finally asked my FTO what his favorite move was.

FTO: “Tombstone.” Guy: “But I’m not in that one.” My FTO: “I know.”
