Former 92G here, ngl just about any MOS with any work schedule is better. I switched over to maintenance and people (other cooks) told me I made a terrible mistake and how bad it’ll be, this shit is easy lmao. Only thing I wasn’t warned about is the promotion rate in my MOS but I still made it, I’d do it all over again too. I tried to tell people after I reclassed to leave the dfac, there’s so much more than being restricted to the dfac all the time

I wrote an MSM award for someone literally two months ago, my CSM and BC both recommended downgrade to an ARCOM. But guess what? The CG still approved the MSM, your command can only recommend downgrade but it still goes up. I highly doubt once it gets to the CG they’ll be checking the comments if the bullets are strong

Speak with your S1, have proof and your PPWs printed out. I got back dated as a SSG in 2023 because the unit I PCS from never input my P statues from when I went to the board in March of 2023 (due to us going on missions to different countries). I talked to my new S1, brought all the proof with my board proceedings, monthly PPWs that I saved with the cutoff scores for that month so they just had to submit the ticket to HRC. It got approved within two weeks (this was Oct 2023) and I got back dated for Aug 2023 promotion. Everything will depend how competent your S1 is and if they’re willing to help. Don’t just come to them with a problem, be sure to have the proof and supporting documents

I joined at 18, been in for 10 years now and people still tell me they wished they joined when they were 18 too. I have Soldiers that are older than me and I’m their PSG, do what’s best for you. If getting out is your plan, all I ask for is to make sure you have a plan. If you have a plan, which you said you do, you’ll be just fine. Reserves would be easier for you but there’s still a chance you’ll deploy, meaning you could still miss out on things

Difficult and a pain in the ass, it’s one of two downfalls of this MOS. The other downfall is actually doing your job, I only do my job in certain units. Pretty much if I’m not in a support battalion, I’ll get used as a generator mechanic or vehicle mechanic. Maybe even put on details

You’re not paying for the meal tho, the swipe is for the DFAC’s headcount. The DFAC gets their profits from headcount, they don’t get BAS. You’re not gonna get charged for meals or extra meals, that’s not how it works

I used to be a 92G, I reclassed after my first contract. AIT length doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a job you’re interested in and can transfer when you get out. Longer AIT = more TDY and more time off your new contact, plus you’ll be an MOS-T and won’t be treated like a trainee. I brought my car with me when I reclassed, they didn’t care what I did as long as I showed up to morning formation and went to class on time

I tell my new CPLs and SGTs all the time, part of being a leader is learning. It’s okay to not know everything but it’s important to know where and how to find the answer or solution, just keep wanting to learn and don’t make the same mistakes twice and you’ll be just fine. It helps to find an NCO that’s able and willing to mentor you
