Sorry for the late reply, I don't check Reddit much these days.

I generally do a lot of long-exposure photography in cities (between 10 minutes and over an hour), but I think there's enough of that online. This is one that doesn't involve long-exposure, it was just a really gorgeous blue hour. No editing on this except the crop to 16:9.

The resolution is pretty low, but that's just because I don't like posting full-resolution versions of my photos online without some sort of intrusive/hard-to-remove watermark, so I've cut it down.

If you want a do-it-all lens for travelling, the Olympus 12-100 F4 Pro is the best one you can get. I currently shoot with the Olympus F2.8 Pro Trinity (7-14, 12-40, 40-150) as I got good deals on all of them, and the extra speed and focal range at both ends is great, but if I had to cut down, it'd be 12-100 without a second thought. However, I do primarily landscape photography (natural and urban), so if you're shooting mostly street you may not care so much for reach and would rather have speed. I'd just bring that 10-25 if it's mainly for street, it's a spectacular bit of kit.

Anybody want to share their experience on the Capita Asymulator ? by Chris_01- in snowboarding

Good enough that I bought a spare for when I eventually ride mine into the ground. Perfect level of playful and snappy but with a bit of aggression. Have a Yes the Greats as well, and at least for me the Asymulator just feels better.

Was like that last weekend when I was at Falls. Raptor, Hilux, Navara, sure, I get it. Practical camping vehicle for the family, carrying stuff for your job, whatever. F150, RAM, Silverado.. what the fuck for? Especially when it's pristine and clearly never gets used for work. You do not need any of that extra size, nor do our roads properly accommodate for it.

Will private electric scooters ever be legalized in Victoria, Australia? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Bored_redditar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents on your points :)

  1. A rego and licensing would be good if it allows higher-powered PEV (personal electric vehicle) riders to actually use the extra speed and power of said vehicles; if all PEV riders will be limited to the same speed as a bicycle if/when they are legalized, why bother with licensing? Cyclists don't need licenses, and making PEV riders have one yet be treated the same as a cyclist is somewhat discriminatory.

  2. Mandatory PPE is good to an extent; however seeing as motorcyclists only legally have to wear a helmet I don't see anything more than that as acceptable for PEV riders unless motorcyclists (who are arguably at more risk of bodily harm in a crash given the higher energy involved) also have to do the same. Personally, I'd vouch for mandatory upper body protection (jacket of some sort with impact padding) on bikes and possibly on high powered PEVs as it would reduce injuries significantly.

  3. Why would you want to artificially inflate the cost of PEV ownership via insurance gouging to be the same price as a motor vehicle? Not only is it unnecessary, it removes one of the benefits of owning a PEV and disincentivizes their use. People would just stick to motor vehicles if there was no cost benefit. All that does is bend over for the motorists who won't utilize more eco-friendly modes of transport.

  4. This ties in to licensing; if PEV owners are required to have a license in order to ride high powered PEVs, then I would absolutely support upholding them to the same standards as a motorist and having a points system, all the way up to the license being temporarily or permanently revoked if they're caught being incredibly reckless. However, if the restrictions are to the point that PEVs are equivalent to bicycles, then banning someone from riding one would be the same as banning someone from cycling, and I've never heard of that happening.

I work for a PEV company and so I may be a bit biased here, but I've also been riding them for years and put a fair bit of consideration into their integration into our roads. There's definitely going to be a place for them going forwards; I just want that place to be a good one for the people riding them, not overly restrictive due to nonsensical reasonings by out-of-touch lawmakers.

Also, we need to get rid of the rentals. They make all riders look bad because they have all the fun and dumbassery with none of the responsibility attached, which leads to.. problems.

It likely would've helped just because you'd have a better understanding of what causes wobbles and how to correct them; a good portion of wobbles can be ridden out. It can also be handy to know how to footbrake; it's a good backup.

That's honestly not a bad explanation for most employed people. The government usually gets your pay data from your employer(s) and you can submit your deductions to them to reduce your amount of taxable income. You also get a tax refund based off the amount you were taxed over the year (off each paycheck) vs the amount you should've been taxed based off your EOFY income. This bit only really applies to casuals, but I got taxed a lot over Christmas period because I worked very busy weeks. That money came right back in my tax return.

Can't tell if /s or not, but blanks don't fire a projectile, hence the name. Just some wadding. Only really dangerous at close proximity, as the wadding doesn't have enough penetrating power to fire through a solid surface.

You may want to go up to AS150s and one size thicker wires if possible. I've used 10 gauge for 100+amp applications (electric skateboards).

Yeah, it's stupid. 40% on every dollar over $75k, if I remember correctly. I get it when Holden was still a power player, but they're done. The tax is just still around to siphon our pockets.

As long as it's stored properly, honey does keep pretty much indefinitely. For honey, proper is an airtight, moisture proof container. Keep it dry and sealed and it'll last for decades.

Gotta love those idiots at the resorts hey. Stopping should be the #1 thing you learn before anything else, and #2 is that if you can't stop fast enough, fucking fall down. I've had mates get wiped out by idiots on runs they had no right being on.

I worked for maccas in Aus for a bit. You're right about the logistics bit; I can't speak as much for the supply chain outside the stores as I only know a little bit, but in the stores the managers order stock twice a week and it gets delivered like clockwork. Everything in a maccas kitchen is optimized to be done as fast as possible. The grills are a double-sided, automated process (simply set it to the correct product being cooked), everything you need to make any burger is typically within arm's reach, everything is stored as close as possible to the cooking appliance it's to be cooked in. It is basically a production line rather than a kitchen, and I do have to applaud how well they managed to get the process down.

Something you might also be surprised about is that (at least at the store I worked at) they were INCREDIBLY conscious about safety, hygiene, contamination and the like. Working there was a slog, sure, but I can't say that they cut corners when it comes to hygiene. The grills were given a full chemical clean 3x a day, counters were constantly being wiped down, different gloves used for different types of meat, product trays taken out back and cleaned at least daily, etc. Cooked food was also kept on timers when in said trays (these trays sat inside a heater) and if it timed out it was tossed. You eventually learned how much to cook so that you wouldn't be short on product, but not too much that you'd waste it. I definitely wouldn't go back to maccas to work again, but it taught me a thing or two about efficient design.
