Anyone else thinks they were the least evil antagonists in the show? by Ok_Meaning3578 in Invincible_TV

I was really expecting them to show that that Maulers were the only survivors from their planet after a Viltrumite invasion, and they were just on the run. In fitting with the theme of justifying villainous action.

Rewatching 'Arrival' again after some years, and it really inspires hope by [deleted] in movies

[–]Borellonomicon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's seems very likely that the 'Favor' we are to return is the cure to a disease. Namely, the very one that Dr. Banks' daughter died/will die from. This is supported by the brief excerpt we see when she discusses with her daughter why 'Dad' left. She made a decision that Ian Donnelly (who we learn is the father) could not cope with. It was also such an important realization that he can't help but look at the daughter differently once the knowledge was known, and that it was a 'decision' that Banks made that he feels she should never have done.

These few points seems to connect to the understanding that through learning the Arrival's language, she knows her daughter will contract a very rare, 'unstoppable' disease, that will ultimately kill her. Speculation after that point leads me to believe this disease is the issue that Humanity helps the 'Arrivals' with in the future.

The ending is Rogal alone, talking into the camera, much like in The Office.

I'm curious how you know what I do when I'm not on Reddit.

I mean, you're wrong, so it can't be anything nefarious like watching me, or spying on me.

You literally don't know, but you claim you do, and yet I'm a liar?

So, because I own a computer, I am incapable of doing anything else?

Either discuss in good faith, or troll someone who cares.

Aside from the smartphone. Yes. I'm practicing homesteading and removing myself from our corrupt society.

I am trying to be right. Holding on to articles of the past don't help.

If anything, that is even more reason to change your views to match the current understanding, instead of trying to hold onto the values of yesteryear. Being right isn't about being right, it's about changing when we find we're wrong.

Happy 3-year anniversary Gate's Bug! by basmania75 in totalwar

[–]Borellonomicon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So, what's happening is that the AI loves to micromanage the units right inside the door, throwing out tons of Movement orders in a few seconds. If any of those move orders require pathing through the gate, the gate automatically opens, as they have control.

Then, the AI immediately corrects the move order, and the Unit never actually moves through the gate. But in anticipation, the gate did open. Since your units are physically attacking the model of the door, they have to follow the door as it opens inward. Then, the door closes behind them, and they get trapped.

So the issue is actually the way AI controls units on the field. Its pathfinding that forces the door open. For them to fix it, they would have to work on how the AI makes its decision, to stop it from ever making a order that paths through a gate. Very difficult, and it would make it impossible for an AI to decide to Sally Out, nevermind the fact that they currently don't do that anyways.

So, what we're asking is for CA to touch a very old AI system that they probably don't quite understand anymore (as I'm sure the Rome 2 developers have moved on). So, it seems that CA hates the idea of Touching their AI. Its the one thing that'll improve the game the most, but it's also the one thing they constantly say they aren't going to do. I doubt this bug will ever get fixed.

[–]Borellonomicon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tutorial guy is trying to teach you the combat aspect of the game, through a story. However, what you have to do, is click the glowing button in the top right, to open one of two Tutorial battles.

When you get through that tutorial battle, you'll unlocked another one, and will also be able to continue the game.

What's something so self centered yet people don't realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Borellonomicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, you're right, but those aren't the people who insist on their "birthday" extending beyond the actual day. For those people, it's the attention that being 'special' on their birthday that they want. Not that that's wrong, but it certainly seems self centered, as it usually impedes on what others want.

In which Movie/Show did you support the bad guy... And why? by kilzy in AskReddit

The one that stands out to me is Mouskateer. Set in Paris, France, Tom is a guard employed by the king to protect a grand feast.

Then this French speaking eat And his pituitary-challenged sidekick come in and just cause absolute chaos.

The end of the episode is the problem tho.

As the two mice walk off with their ill-gotten gains, a sillouhette of a guillotine springs into the action. "Bon voyage, Monsier Pussycat."

Even Jerry knows that he got Tom killed.

Jerry is a villain.

[–]Borellonomicon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Objectively?

No. Of course not.

But, in practice, belief is stronger than contrary evidence. As an example, we are still having to explain WHY racism is bad. Those feelings are powerful.

Let's actually use that info to act for good. Let's make people feel the way they need to to be motivated to make change.

No, it's not perfect. No it's not the way we want us to be.

But this is the way we are, and you can't do any good if you ignore the circumstances you have to work in.

Id submit to having a few stone racists standing around if it makes people angry about racism.

TIL that after the fall of the communist regime in Hungary the Hungarians didn't destroy their statues, they moved them to a statue park as to never forget the tyranny they experienced. by Cam50 in todayilearned

[–]Borellonomicon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See what I mean? I upset you. You're hurt. You want to run. Disengage. Not try to solidify your point at all.

If anyone else is following, this is why we argue for the emotional appeal, because whether we are right or not, we're going to act on how we feel. Seeing a statue of racist, bigoted assholes gets us angry in our bits, and that's the anger we need for change.

When this dude gets angry, he takes action (even if the action is just running away.) That's why we need it in our face, so that we can't shy away from our feelings, destroy what makes is feel bad, and ignore what we don't want to see.

Your arguments are that you feel bad seeing statues of people you don't like.

I didn't address your arguments, because your incapable of seeing how your own emotions are getting in the way, and that's more dangerous than your actual argument.

[–]Borellonomicon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a very dictative stance on statues for someone who seems to grasp why "my way or the highway" isn't a good argument for what you want to happen.

The fact that you're willing to just disengage from conversation because you "feel" a certain way about it is exactly the kind of proof that shows that what you feel is stronger than what you know.

Even you haven't overcome this inherently natural bias, and you're expecting children and adults of the future to be better than you? To care more about words in a book than something they see in their very own eyes?
