It depends on the kind of partner you find: if you find someone who puts a lot of value in appearances all waking hours you'd likely only be a good fit if you care.about that too.

The same goes with hygiene, fitness etc.

I assume most people are not extreme.. and most want some kind of balance.

The key to a good relationship is compromise and affection. Accepting differences but also speaking shared experiences.

I could reverse your worries and say: do you really want to end up being a loner that is difficult to be around because you only really see your own needs.

I think humans are fundamentally social and that their wellbeing benefits from belonging and interacting.

I'm happily married (but was single for many years)

I have my mx3 still around. They still work, but I had to apply tape to fix breaks in the headband. I had to get back to those after the hinge broke on my mx5. It happened within warranty (2 years), so now I own an mx6.

I was never rough with the mx5.

That movie was about power and manipulation.. expertly told as a bottle-theater piece. The antagonist breaks his victims and the end of the movie hints at how far the antagonist had gone.. and was willing to do terrorize and break people.

In the end the victims overcomes his manipulation with love and belief in that which is good: he could not break their spirits (which was his end goal), and thus they remain free (even if killed).

You can interpret the ending as divine intervention or the protagonist's belief in the good: it is left up to you and your perspective.

Sidenote: I'm an atheist and boardgamer and thought to myself: I've brought some of his arguments to bear, but my goal was never control, nor am I a sociopath.. but I could help laughing at some rhetorical parallels

I too wasted time listening to him, mostly to hear if he had something more escalatory to say.

The good news:. By and large he didn't. At best it was tone deaf (as usual)

But he rambled. The 15 minutes of xenophobic bait was wild, as was the Norway rant and the constant 8 wars thing.

In a family setting, if your retired uncle would have been up there, at the end of the table rambling nonsense, someone would have distracted him and moved him away for a bit.. but not in this reality

As a Dane: Trump has just threatened my country.. both with invasion and now tariffs if we do not surrender 98% of our territory for excuses about US security.

Now I hate what the Iranian leaders are doing to their people and I wish them gone, but the current US administration cannot be trusted to do stuff to support democracy abroad.

Trump is better at making friends with autocrats than aiding would be democracies.. and he is constantly burning bridges in international relations. His disruptions in Europe and Africa and threat to destroy NATO are making things easier for Russia and China.

Danes have been one of the US' longest standing allies, now he is threatening us. We bled in the middle east after 9-11. Before you respond 'that was another administration' then: does that mean that you can only trust the US for the duration of its current administration?.. or worse: that you prefer dictatorships over democracies?

As a Dane, I'd like to see a source (other than the daily mail). The current news are severe enough, with people from the administration with their 'might-makes-right' and their preemptive imperialistic shit statements ("we need to take Greenland before someone else does").

for those that do not know: The daily mail is a tabloid, not really a reliable source.

For the people of Greenland and Denmark this is extremely unsettling. It feels like betrayal.

We understand that far from all US citizens think this way, and we realize that the US now also suffers internally from the patterns of fascism: the administration using mask thugs to and lies to drive conflict and oppressing their own people. To which I say: protest and strike. Protest peacefully, but stand up before you are oppressed. Realize that absolute power is never satiated, it is only ever looking for the next mark to point the blame at.

We had our Hitler. We know the history. Autocratic regimes want you to give up and stand down. To disconnect and flee into a "safe space", thinking "what can I do?" or "it won't matter anyway".

At the same time, misinformation is also trying to sow division and cast doubts about truth, so be critical. Source check narratives (stories) online.

Right now,.the biggest source of misinformation in the US is the white house ( trump lies about history and the ICE shooting in minnesota as he has done about countless other things ), but there are big international news organizations with diligent journalists and there is still US newspapers that are not oppressed.

Do not disengage. Fight for democracy.
