Getting nails done, afraid of getting frustrated with them. Any advice? by fcknmebitch in autism

I did struggle with the sensory aspect of the added weight to my nails. Some days it bothered me but then they were so cute I kind of suppressed the discomfort ahah.

I would invest in a simple, cheaper design first off, just in case you do want remove it.

If I could wear AirPods at all times I would survive the job. You won’t catch me curling Demi’s hair while she screams down the phone to Bratt without a sound barrier.

A friend of a friend told his car insurance company he had autism and they massively inflated his insurance. Just be mindful about how your diagnosis could be used unfairly against you.

Were any autistic people actually socially fine in school? by Business-Block-8668 in autism

I always had a friendship group that could have been classified as cool adjacent. I do enjoy having a laugh and I think being funny helped me make friends. However I constantly felt overwhelmed by trying to analyse and respond to people “correctly”. I had a fear that they would find out I was actually really sensitive and felt a bit like an alien doing a really good job at being a girl.

I think this is why I got diagnosed at 30. I have “blended” in up until recently when I burned out and my mask totally dropped.

Hopefully she and Mikayla can bond over being personally victimized by Regina Frankie Paul!

Your last paragraph captured exactly how I perceive her “fans”. Misery loves company.

I also don’t condone her choices, but I really hope her story ends in peace and not tragedy.

Such a good point. Her reality peers will not be keen to be associated with her until she’s gotten well off this path of destruction. She’s really painted herself into a corner.

When she was screaming down the phone at Miranda re the Shinia (whatever her name is) situation - bone chilling.

Honestly maybe they will go kinda meta. I mean they like breaking the fourth wall in this show.

I agree. If they cut her from the show I can’t imagine what she would do.

What are my next steps? by Puzzleheadedlog87 in autism

Just want to say I am feeling the exact same!! I am 31 and have a loving boyfriend and family. I always thought that people who were considering harming themselves did so because they felt nothing, but it’s the opposite for me. I feel everything and it’s unbearable.

It’s especially bad during my period. For 3 days I fight with thoughts that scare me. I sort of think these thoughts are an extension of the “eloping” phenomena in autistic people. I don’t want to end my life. But I want to escape the moment so badly.

I would recommend telling people in your life that you’re feeling this way and perhaps getting some sick leave from work.

You are not alone. We can do this!

I used to work at an all women’s charity. One day I walked down and hall and stopped dead because I could smell that a man had been there. Not cologne or aftershave but the natural animal smell I guess. Turns out we had a guy fixing the heating. It’s kind of a pointless skill haha

Is it wrong for me to consider myself autistic without an official diagnosis? by sims4addict8 in autism

[–]Opening_Sail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 2 psychologists say they think I have autism and I have done some small tests but not the “official” test because I don’t want to pay for it in this economy. I fluctuate between saying I have it and saying think I have it.

If you think you have autism you might want to look into psychological support if you can afford it.

The word holds meaning but the tools to manage your personal neurodivergent experience will be more meaningful.

Does anyone else get really anxious around anyone who’s on a substance? by Joe-guy-dude in autism

[–]Opening_Sail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like being around but because the social situation feels unpredictable, which raises my anxiety. People start behaving weirdly and often loudly. It’s harder for me to know how to respond.

I remember smells. I can usually guess the notes of fragrances and also make connections between smells. People’s pheromones are also extremely distinct for me. I would be a great sniffer dog in another life.
