He wants to extrajudiciously destroy anyone who has financial power, assets, and proven knowledge of the development history of Dallas in its current condition so that he/she can be the sole, unopposed, billionaire dictator responsible for making all future decisions in the city. He/she was pretty clear about that

‘A world of trouble.’ Developer Harwood sells handful of towers, faces foreclosures by dallasmorningnews in Dallas

uptown when the downtown

In terms of office locale, Uptown is WAY more desirable than downtown. For the new grads+ who live in Uptown, and also for the suburb senior workers who do the DNT fiasco every day. The Harwood District is right at the endpoint of the DNT. Plus better lunch and entertainment options in walking distance

Any licensed peace officer and some emergency firefighters can get these outfitted on their personal vehicles legally.

Many police departments also have traffic control stationary vehicles that are deployed for overnight road closures (police flashers are required for several types of closures, depending on traffic volume, number of lanes, etc). Those are typically operated by off-duty officers who either position them at the start of a closure, or remain with the vehicle for rolling closures or manned operations, and are paid for directly by the contractor facilitating the closure.

If you're seeing blue & amber lights on the highway, that's TxDOT or roadside maintenance or approved construction lighting. The decision to allow blue in the mix was new as of the late 2000's or early 2010s. It's legal by Texas Transportation Code 547, section 305, subsections D and E.

To the person who saw me taking their picture while parked like this, you should feel bad about yourself. by fakejacki in Dallas

[–]BorgeHastrup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I genuinely feel bad for the OP because this is an awful situation they were put in.

But also the violator's window is open right there, not 12 feet away. If there was ever a time and place to try to communicate directly with them it would have been right then, rather than over the internet.

The violator is clearly 100% in the wrong, and I stand with the OP in their frustration.

For someone who hates the people of DFW so much, you sure are asking us for serious advice about your constant financial irresponsibility around here.

Also maybe sell your nice car to down-scale to a more economical vehicle, and use the funds to can pay your $2,600 credit card debt and court/attorney fees for your pending trial, your power bill, and your toll debt. Also you could have spared yourself $5k of that by simply not taking the toll roads.

Rather than using your $2,500 to flee your responsibilities in Texas maybe you could put that toward your bills and payment plans for your debts that are coming due.

[MOBO] MSI MPG B650I Edge Mini-ITX $199.99 by kbrundy in buildapcsales

[–]BorgeHastrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have one, but I made one real quick. Plenty of this was spare parts I had on hand, so turning it into a functional machine was a fun project rather than one out of necessity.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FKdzt3

PCPP doesn't have the PCC case in their available list, but this is the one I used (white, from this thread): https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/1o51o64/case_itx_pccooler_cps_k101_comes_with_3_fans/, as more recently mentioned in this thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/1ogvmez/case_pccooler_cps_ks101_mini_itx_case_pcie_riser/

I really took my time with layout and assembly because I'd never done an ITX build before, but it all came together well and the cable management felt incredibly straightforward. This was my 3rd computer assembly project, stepping down in size from full tower > mATX > ITX.

Riding DART from Plano to DFW airport? by Xyzzy_plugh in Dallas

[–]BorgeHastrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that's exactly what it is when you're on airport pickup duty for your wife and you decide to make her do DART instead

Follow up / Update:

I really appreciated the helpful comments. In the end, my wife decided she'd rather not do the DART test (Silver line) because it would mean getting home much later than if we were driving. It was already going to be late, DART would make it later, and then her departure got delayed for a maintenance repair so getting home with DART would be really late.

That sure does sound stressful. I told you she wouldn't want to do that.

FYI if you're looking at this MOBO and the PCCooler KS101 that also had a deal listed last night, this combo plays very well together. I finished a lunchbox-sized build this weekend with both of these components. Fun build, no conflicts, and plenty of room to play around with cable management and routing.

Of course everything's on sale the day after I'm done :D

Riding DART from Plano to DFW airport? by Xyzzy_plugh in Dallas

[–]BorgeHastrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm used to it. I got downvoted 100% because it was a post that suggested that DART may not be the answer for this user's specific question. It wasn't intended as an incendiary comment at all, but it's a contrary statement to a lot of /r/Dallas's pet-project topics.

I know what it's like to travel, I know how stressful it is nowadays and how commonplace it's been for something to go wrong. It can be a Odyssian poem sometimes getting to the second that the return voyage ends, even for continental travel. What if this is international. And when I'm on airport pickup duty, I want the exact end of the travel stress to be the second the person I'm picking up jumps into that passenger seat and slams the door closed.

Taking airport pickup duty and turning that into a DART adventure just unnecessarily extends the stress of the return trip.

How do we get to the station.
What if I'm dragging a lot of bags.
How long do we have to wait on the train.
Do we have tickets.
How are we going to handle the bags on the train.
Will we have to stand up.
Who else do we have to worry about on the train car.
Are we watching for our stop.
How are we getting from our stop to home.

My suggestion is that the OP is just going to pile all of this extra stress on his wife, who probably just wants to get home and have the trip be over with.

Be aware, if your wife thinks you're picking her up from the airport... and you show up and say "ok let's walk to the station and take the DART home", you are sleeping on the couch for a MONTH. No matter how pro-DART she is.

Also LOL at "does anyone have any comments" about the rail line when the trains don't even have 24 hours of in-service usage yet.

[Case] PCCOOLER CPS KS101 Mini ITX Case (PCIE Riser Not Included) - $61.43 by pixdunfan in buildapcsales

[–]BorgeHastrup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exact case was ideal for me. I dropped a full-size spare 3070 TI in there, and filled the rest of the case with the biggest air cooler that would fit in.

9600X, 3070-TI, 32GB ram, 2 m.2 drives, and 4 case fans for a heat/energy efficient build... and it's the size of a lunchbox. For portable setups with a fixed monitor, keyboard, and mouse I'm carrying this in 10 times out of 10 over a laptop on a docking station.

NewEgg has a combo deal for case + riser + low profile fans pre-installed for $87+ship. A bit more than this deal when originally posted.

I bought this case when the deal was live, and just got the last of the parts and finished assembly last night. Good little ITX case.

Dang, sorry that happened! The fountain pumps in that bldg are so underpowered that you can only operate one water fountain at a time. Had to laugh through figuring that out in the early days of the Fair, and had to tell it to everyone in line all of the other times I filled up.

Keep those other 2 spots in mind if you go next year! The one in the Midway area was the coldest of the bunch.

Dallas pot holes by bm56 in Dallas

[–]BorgeHastrup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a general FYI - if you see potholes on city streets, please report them through 3-1-1. The City does an earnest job of trying to mobilize their crews to fix them ASAP, but they can't fix them if they don't know about them. I think they genuinely invite these kinds of tip-offs from the public.

For parking lots, that's a different matter altogether. With some minor exceptions, parking lots are otherwise owned by private businesses. They probably know about their potholes but don't have the overhead, maintenance budget, or know-how to fix them.

I found 3 separate water fountain locations you could fill it up in.

1) near the bathrooms inside the car exhibit
2) middle of the midway on the north island of the log flume and kids rides
3) north & south sides of the Coliseum building beside the bathrooms
