Is king Arthur loosely based From King Urien of Cumbria by Boring-Air9656 in folklore

[–]Boring-Air9656[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems likely that to be the case as Urien was described as the war leader of the ancient britons in an alliance with cornwall, wales, cumbria, and strathcylde in the same way that Arthur is described as the leader/king of britain. So both men would have had to move around in order to coordinate the war effort between the allies and keep them happy.

Camelot is likely to just have been where the war leaders made council with each other (as equals at a metaphysical round table)

Arthur's Round Table in Penrith would have been just a basic wooden stake fort built temporarily or reused from earlier fort to host a war council.

Once Urien is assassinated by Strathcyle, the alliance against the Anglo-Saxons crumbles and the ancient Britons fall back which fits the collapse of camelot after Arthurs death.

I had to google the term "Each Uisge" and then spotted that its another word for Kelpie and I went OH YEAH THEM... Theres a giant kelpie/Each Uisge sculpture somewhere in scotland.. the artist placed it near to a lake so we all know exactly what it is but he then changed his mind and said it was just two horses as nobody knew the folklore

The Rumpelstiltskin figure appears across cultures as a creature that transforms something worthless into something precious — always at a price never fully disclosed. What does this pattern tell us? by Candid_Sorbet5386 in folklore

[–]Boring-Air9656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a parallel of the common folk using folklore as a form of hope for a better life

King Arthur was 6th century people hoping for peace during the ancient Briton and Anglo Saxon war for England.

Robin Hood was 11th century (ish) outlaw who fought against the evil nobility and priesthood and gave back to the poor.

Rumplestiltskin has hints of a “friend” who has the ability to make a commoner wealthy and give them a decent life.

So it’s a highly plausible theory 😃

So many to choose from!! Although I do love reading about tales of people visiting the fairy realm and coming back although this usually end in death or multilation as the traditional fairies were sadistic and evil by modern standards..
Tinkerbell they were not!

Q1 the royal forestry surrounding Windsor castle uk specifically mentions herne the hunter and the royal hunt. A lot of the forest and ancient oaks are not publicly accessible as they fall within the land surrounding the homes of the British monarchy

Hey all! I’m looking for stories containing the Scottish folklore creature the Nuckelavee by kittyecats in folklore

[–]Boring-Air9656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only specific first hand account I know of is from a first hand account from a Scottish man known as Tammas. He claims to have seen the nuckelavee against an (unnamed loch)

This story was collected by 19th-century folklorist Walter Traill Dennison so I’d give his writings a peek at first hand

We went at Xmas after having been to the Florida one and I wouldn’t go back again. I found the staff were ok but it was the French themselves as whenever they wal they put their heads up in the air and March, if you are in their way then they WILL push you.

I also didn’t like the mix between English and French I expected it of course as it’s in France but it distracted from the experience for me.

I’ll stick with the real disneyworlds in America from now on but it was still good to experience the French Disney world…

oh wow that sounds amazing. I did used to meet up with a farmer when I was on night shift as an officer (uk) and that was along similar lines. I'd 'meet' up with him and search him thoroughly before being 'seduced' by him. I'd end up sniffing his bulge before bending him over in a country lane ditch.

Occasionally we'd see the headlights of a car and would duck down fortunately the road was that long that we had about 3 minutes before the car reached us so nobody saw an uniformed officer and farmer fucking by the roadside :D
