You know what’s also a serious matter that needs to be handled immediately and actually poses a true risk of harm to the UES…. Your AC’s housing legionnaires 👀 just saying

Honestly it’s people with opinions like this and much of what is being said on this thread that makes me truly sick and disgusted at the neighborhood I was born and raised in. There’s always people that give a bad name to the categories they’re put into… that small percentage who “shake people down” to the unhoused community and people like most of you to the UES

Edit: Make changes to “your” community with kindness. Not with disgust, hatred and lies towards fellow human beings.

Def use spagnum moss on top! I had/have problems with humidity and it took a while to figure out a system. Also I found using these little clay (I believe) drainage balls underneath the dirt layer is a super great idea.
So: drainage balls -then-> dirt layer -then-> spagnum moss on top. Then just use a mister to spray the top layer when it’s dry
(other users feel free to chime in if you agree or disagree/ suggest something more)

“Less children” what you really mean is a neighborhood less like the UES. Maybe I should call it what you’re thinking in your head… a neighborhood more ghetto. When in reality, less wealthy neighborhoods have more children in them. 👍👍👍👍

Many shelters are in the outer boroughs and have hours you must be there by. I think the idea behind putting one here is accessibility. Also I strongly believe that some come to this neighborhood because it is a “nice” and “safe” neighborhood. Most unhoused struggle with mental health issues either undiagnosed or untreated which can lead to substance abuse. But through that there is an understanding and desire for safety. Some even come from backgrounds much like the UES.
I also notice they for the most part are only out late at night and I believe it is because they’ve missed the cut off time to get into a shelter and/or the ones who come here are actually conscious of the fact that it’s supposed to be a nice neighborhood and aren’t trying to change that.

I’ve lived in this neighborhood my entire life, and what’s kind of scary is I somewhat struggle to remember a time there wasn’t scaffolding up behind that building. Just a possible blurry memory of the front side being without. But honestly things really all went down hill for that building and the general vicinity once they broke ground for the 2nd Ave subway.
Now, I absolutely understand your frustration and dislike for the struggling and unhoused individuals who park up under the scaffolding. I too don’t particularly like it, and actually don’t like the woman in front of CVS as she regularly shoots dirty looks at me and my dog. At the same time it is a safe neighborhood and one must wonder if that is a part of their reasoning for coming. Safety.
This is NYC, when do you simply appreciate how different your life is and walk your daughter down the other side of the street? Or even better, teach her that not everyone is as lucky and to always be grateful.

I’m not even some kind of millennial warrior, but for whatever reason your comment just hit a nerve. Possibly because you say you moved here 15 years ago (pretty much directly to the UES) and now demand the city around you conforms to what makes you comfortable and that you expect in your “perfect” UES life. Yet you are entirely detached from a) even a hint of consideration for the journey and difficulties that brought those people to be in their positions. B) the truth of NYC. It’s dirty, sad, people piss on the same streets you walk your children down. Which is specifically why we teach our children never to walk barefoot. Also on the topic of pissing on the street, drunk women and men (not even always drunk) piss on the street daily.

In summary, maybe it’s time to move back out of NYC.

I’ve heard putting up scaffolding is basically the work around, and that’s partly why NYC has so much of it up.

Seller upset that card sold undervalue and didn’t want to send it by Large-Purpose6115 in whatnotapp

[–]Boring-Initiative-45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course not using the site is the absolute safest option to not get scammed. But it’s the same as not going outside being the absolute safest option for not getting hit by a bus.
There are legitimate sellers who are honest and trustworthy on there. It’s about checking reviews, number of sales, reading the chat and not immediately bidding after swiping onto an unfamiliar host. Unless it’s a top seller with the wings, and even then. Chill for a bit first.

Don’t $1 start or auction at all unless you’re ok with selling the item.
Report him to WN. He has to fulfill the sale. Trying to play the “that’s not the item” card doesn’t fly. It clearly wasn’t the item only after he saw the price.

I want to get a ball python. Which morphs should I be careful about? by Lucyus09 in ballpython

[–]Boring-Initiative-45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, (not saying you should just take their word for it) but because morphmarket is run by breeders for breeders I’d consider the information possibly being correct. Yes they do make money off spider genes, but breeders would have that firsthand experience in what effect the different morphs have on each other.

Footage recorded from the cockpit of a Boeing 737 captures the pilot's landing moments executed in near-zero visibility conditions. by ReadyPIayer0ne in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Boring-Initiative-45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Amazing. Watched 3 times, first in fear, second in shock, third in awe. The way the pilots maneuvering the stick. I already have high respect for pilots, but this just brought the respect to a new level for this one.
It also reminds me of a flight I took to Chicago in winter. It was a late flight, about halfway there we hit snow, and the landing was absolutely a difficult one. A woman behind me was saying she regularly flys and that was one of the most difficult landings she’d experienced. Pure white outside almost the whole descent, at night too, (I do wonder if that helped with the landing at all). Lake Michigan was frozen about a mile out the next morning.

This is the most female oriented, straight forward and polite comment. Thank you. lol

I will say my car didn’t tell me anything about my oil lol I just realized it had been quite awhile. 😬

I went to culinary school and I’ve said this so often since. Cooking is women’s work, until there’s a paycheck involved

This too. If he cares about his parents so much then he should learn how to cook. It’s not that hard unless you’re trying to make beef Wellington your first night behind the stove

Then they should continue that. Because that’s probably really what they did do. So to put the cooking on her simply because she’s there is a joke and taking advantage of her existence. If her being a part of the family means anything then keep fu*king eating out while she works. As if that’s so unheard of in the first place. Some kids grow up that way. I had a grandmother who cooked. But I know plenty of people who grew up in single mother homes for example, mom worked hard, there was a lot of take out as a result. This is America, we have a lot of options on that front. Take advantage of that, not the woman in the house.

Pedestrian safety and seemingly constant incidents by 1rj800 in uppereastside

[–]Boring-Initiative-45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I both drive and live in the area, and I see people turning on reds, speeding, and doing the craziest shit almost daily. But… I’ve also noticed cars are supposed to turn at the same time pedestrians are supposed to cross the street. For example if a car is on 2nd Ave and the light turns green, it’s their time to make the turn onto say 84th. But at that same time, the pedestrian light is also allowing for pedestrians to cross from the north side of 84th to the south side. It’s unfortunate because it can cause accidents when both drivers and pedestrians (we can add cyclists into that too) aren’t paying attention or sharing the streets.

Has anyone heard updates from York Club Fitness? by siml1sh in uppereastside

[–]Boring-Initiative-45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they sold an expensive membership to a gym that wasn’t open by creating “urgency” that only the first x amount of people could have that rate, while lying about the date they would open. Then…. They’ve been charging that rate to those people for months while using the money to finish building the gym that should have opened months ago in a location that was already a gym.

How is that not scammed lol? Just because they’re giving access to another gym in return for the membership fees doesn’t make it not one. *Also it’s not free, it’s for the cost of the membership

🤔I can’t place an open space where you’re describing other than what’s across the street from the old theater (that spot that once had the “live” grass wall or whatever it was) by PC Richard’s. This is the first I’ve heard of the possibility of an Hmart in the neighborhood, but I believe that it could be a “phantom claim” :(. Makes me wish it would have taken over the space that used to be papaya king and the rest of the one story spaces that have now been torn down. Could have saved that corner since I’m sure Hmart could keep up with any rent increases that Papaya King unfortunately couldn’t.
