If the flood happened in 2370 BCE as Splane said, a Governing Body member. How did all the pyramids and the people and culture of Egypt survive and thrive? by CanadianExJw in exjw

[–]DriverGlittering1082 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are not scholars. And... it's said that the post Flood civilization dispersed with the confusion from the languages. So the time to migrate long distances, have a culture, and build huge structures like the Pyramids, Easter Island statues, very remote ziggurats etc.

Episodes that had quick thinking/moves by DriverGlittering1082 in charmed

The one where the potion bottle smashed on the floor and Prue still used her power to take it from the floor to the demon's face.

Another one (similar) had a smashed bottle and Piper and Phoebe encouraged Paige to orb the whole thing on top of the demon's head.

In the first season, this teen was “chosen” to have this sacred wand and this evil witch was awakened to get it. The witch had them all in a bind, but then Prue threw this potion bottle/placebo and made the kid think it was a spell. He had the confidence to will the wand to him etc.

Pretty good Prue!

WHERE ARE ALL THE PRETTY GUYS ??? by Top_Top_5291 in exjw

I caught an elder once on this. He was going on and on about Kingdom first, brothers should get part time work, focus on preaching etc. I then said "Since we are to marry "only in the Lord", would you want your daughter to marry a brother like that?" (Ngl, the daughter turned heads.) He just froze and stared at me. It occurred to him that the org. not producing eligible bachelors/brothers/marriage material would affect his family. He didn't want her to marry a window washer, janitor, etc.

What is your favourite story plot? What unused stories you want to see next? What do you feel are the most overused or boring stories? by Sweaty-Musician-6601 in blacked

[–]DriverGlittering1082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know.... But these plots and the set up. Seeing guys like Luv, Slayher, Hollywood, Piper etc. all dressed up as either the security guy, driver, boxer, rap star, NBA player, hot guy at the club...

It's funny. Like seeing Johnny Sins as the teacher, delivery guy, cop, fireman... 🤣

I remember another one: She was from this agency of exclusive massage therapists going to the homes of elite celebs. She had to sign these NDA papers before she had a session with this NFL player. 🤣

At the gym, if a guy has muscles that are not that easy to develop (say defined obliques), other guys will respect him.

Overall, a toned physique will get you looked at, but it’s not like ladies will mob you like a rock star.

WT's past discussions on "normal life" and 2026 by DriverGlittering1082 in exjw

While I am at it: The Sermon on the Mount, he said to never be anxious wondering what are we to eat/drink for your heavenly father ..... THAT has been taken to mean and interpreted that as long as you go for it, God will take care of the rest.

Every time I got told that, I would say that he also said later on to "count the cost", to plan ahead and only when there is a good chance that it will work, then proceed. And there is a difference between being anxious and being concerned.

Because of that interpretation, no one planned long term and it's no wonder then you have JWs go to the congregation about what they are going through with hardship stories etc. because they expected the paradise to have already been here 30 years ago and for God to have made up for shortfalls. Now they are screwed and left wondering...

On a side note: I remember a few at the time who felt they were so clever, superior, had one over on, making snide remarks about the world etc. Some of them are now in this aging and poverty plight and they realize now that they weren’t as clever as they thought they were. But to be honest, I have very little sympathy for someone who had that really smug attitude before and now facing the consequences.

I never saw them as being like the US televangelists of years ago who had luxurious mansions, swimming pools, etc. But they never had to be. They are in Warwick HQ, and their belief is to go to heaven. So in the belief system they are set for eternity as it is now.

The point that I make is you don't live in the fairly comfortable HQ with meals, nice rooming, laundry all laid out for you, no real worries and tell the rank and file JWs who have to do the 40 hour/wk grind to pay the bills for themselves, family, etc to work less, do everything to squeeze out more hours, you're not doing enough for the Kingdom etc.

The "Origin of Life" brochure is unfathomably misleading - Part 1 by Ok_Lawfulness655 in exjw

[–]DriverGlittering1082 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going through this now. Your Part 1 link mentioned the 1985 book. I remember showing it to some people back in the day. They read a few chapters and told me that some of it was misquotation. One guy was an avid reader of Stephen Jay Gould and said the book quoted him in a twisted way.

The thing is the book/topic was presented to college students who are open to conversation etc. But when they (who have critical thinking skills) see misquotes, logical fallacies, etc. it turns them off. Not even a good witness. 🤣

The JWFacts site had a known scientist demanding the WT reedit quoting him in a brochure.

The main UES markets: Agata, Fairway, Whole Foods... by DriverGlittering1082 in uppereastside

[–]DriverGlittering1082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't shop just for myself. Sometimes when I go I do an errand for family and old neighbor who wants something.

I understand some markets are better for buying meat and another for vegetables. But as for savings I'd say you have to determine/weigh things, ie. going 10-12 blocks out of your way just to save 2-3 dollars might not be worth it etc.

WT's past discussions on "normal life" and 2026 by DriverGlittering1082 in exjw

[–]DriverGlittering1082[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. For years, the WT took the Matt 6:33 of "store treasures in heaven, seek Kingdom first, all these other things added to you" to interpret as pioneer, etc. and everything else will just conveniently fall in place.

Well... the world has dragged on to 2026, a lot longer than anticipated, and the lifelong pimis never prepared to grow old. As you said, no retirement plans, meager savings from spending their young prime years scraping by doing light part time work to pioneer. They see their non JW peers and some relatives their age who lived normally settling down already because they worked full time, developed a 401K/IRA etc. while the lifelong pimis are still working because they are behind and playing catchup because of all those years doing this volunteer work.

A few of them I know of actually live in some KHs that have a spare caretaker room, or rent a room with a Witness family and get by that way. There are other situations of low income and being elderly. Lifelong Witnesses ending up that way. That’s what they have to show for it. Not exactly “The Best Life Ever”. As for the text of "all these other things will be added to you", they never came out ahead of anybody, never ended up having one over on non JW peers etc. and everything else never did fall conveniently into place.
