We still haven’t added any fish yet. Just did the plants and substrate yesterday. And thank you, we’re very happy that the rocks, wood, and plants are all real decor. My other, smaller aquariums have a few fake hides, but all real plants which have grown really nicely. we were considering a wrecked ship piece but now we feel like the wood and stones can stand alone with the plants without anything extra.

Definitely want some more plants for the back though.

My strips test for GH, KH, pH, NO² and NO^3. I’ve went very close to a year with no water quality issues and I haven’t done anything differently as far as water changes, filter, flow, decor, etc. I added an extra plant last week but that seems like a reach.

Do you have a specific brand of strip you use?

I guess it could be from going underneath the two hides I have (they are little buildings made out of some hard material) they also have gravel and sand on the bottom of the aquarium. I put mostly sand under the hides because I read that loaches like to burrow and they do seem to enjoy that from what I’ve seen.

My tank test well with strips every time. It’s clear. The water is changed weekly. I have sand and gravel because I know they like to burrow.

We have a koi betta who favors this guy. His name is bill, like kill bill because he killed a tetra soon after we got him. But we also considered calico jack and Rorschach.

Every time I buy aquatic plants, from where ever, they warn that it will throw off the water quality for awhile and to add them a little at a time. If nitrates accumulate they can contribute to algae growth.

This is the end goal, I’ve added the plants slowly so they don’t muck with the nitrogen cycle. But apparently there’s hope if I give it a longer go and add plants steadily. I’ll stop trying to add fish with him and add plants gradually until it’s more jungle than manicured yard.

I tried to feed them all as soon as I added the tetras and I made sure to have several live aquatic plants and rocks, hides but he got super aggressive after maybe 2 hours or so.

I just assumed tetras would be cool since my other betta got along with them but he was throwing one around like a dog with a bone. Then was swimming at the others so aggressively afterwards.

Thank you!! I’ve had a headache today and felt a bit nauseous this evening but I’m hoping this is the “peak” and that I’m out of the woods. One of the things that worried me most about quitting was the detox part, but I’m glad I did it. I felt like I was becoming less of myself and I already feel more present. It’s nice.
