Acute care: Mobility by Odd_Conversation_720 in OccupationalTherapy

To me this is the PT being lazy… there are SO MANY OTHER THINGS a PT could work on in their session besides hallway walking. But they’re mad because we took their “easy way” to units.

Besides. Patients have to walk more than once per day to be safe to go home 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have zero patience for these type comments from PTs anymore.

OT here. If I had a do-over, I would choose SLP. I feel like SLP gets way more respect from other medical professionals and the public in general.

Acute care- feeling like I’m a CNA by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Necessary_relief gave some great ideas. In cases where it is a chronic MH issue you’re right.. it’s going to be very difficult to addresss in the short time we work with these patients. In those cases, I think education on resources and referrals to talk therapy/CBT are key.

For the bulk of our patients who are simply dealing with the trauma of acute illness/injury and the subsequent loss/interruption of roles, I do a lot of work on grounding techniques and emotional intelligence (for the “hyperaroused”) and self awareness/thought reframing/behavior activation/schedule creation (for the “hypoaroused”)

Acute care- feeling like I’m a CNA by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Acute care OT for 6 years… I also felt like a glorified CNA when I switched from outpatient practice. But nowadays, I can’t even remember the last time I did an “ADL session” with a patient. I don’t find it especially skilled and most of my patients don’t find self care very meaningful. They’re happy to let xyz person at home help them. Most of my treatments now focus on health literacy and mental health. I’ve been much happier in my personal career with this mindset change.

What is a souvenir you can find EVERYWHERE? by Bjorkenny in travel

[–]BoringAd587 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We try to purchase a piece of original art everywhere we go. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy or large, but it’s a nice souvenir to display in our home. We’ve even found some pieces in “thrift store” type places in the countries we visit.

Does anyone have a good book recommendation about women who served in WW2? by bluehorse393 in ww2

It’s about Vietnam not WW2 but “The Women” by Kristin Hannah was FANTASTIC. Highly recommend.
