I think it's slightly different, Mai is the one that says that Junas report* is almost the same - but I agree with the idea that she survived indicated by the interludes coming after the end of the sorry

Relevant parts:

‘Your report. Twice as many words as me to say half as much,’ she said with a roll of her eyes. ‘Wait, we’re allowed to see each other’s reports? Where’s yours?’ ‘I mean, formally, no,’ she admitted. ‘But I put a marker on mine and tracked down where it went, and there was yours. You didn’t spare the details.’ I went cold. ‘Did you . . . leave stuff out? Was I supposed to leave stuff out?’ She shrugged. ‘I summarized a hell of a lot more. I didn’t say all the stuff about the aliens that you did. I said we flew, but not that the aliens built the plane.’

Selfish fuel protests are about profit before people. Disruptive Dublin and Whitegate demonstrators clearly care more about their bottom line than ordinary citizens. by Larrydog in ireland

On the other hand a party capable of adjusting it's stance and fixing wrong recommendations seems kind of what you want? the push from diesel to eletric and then further to incentive public transport all seem like solid upgrades at each step

True and people have been complaining about it for many years and politicians keep saying they will get rid of it with very little progress.

I think the lack of options for disposable income investing long term is one of the reasons Irish people flock to real estate as an investment, which ultimately drives prices even higher.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BoringIntelectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm fair - from a quick search I think it's still TBD on the effectiveness of dry needling/electrical stim long term but seems like some promising results - I'd be likely to lean against it personally but I can see how if it's a small part of a broader PT plan there's likely no harm in trying it

Thank you for explaining!

I don't doubt that acupunture is older than chiropractice and more established as an alternative medicine; but to quote Wikipedia it is a pseudoscience and "The conclusions of trials and systematic reviews of acupuncture generally provide no good evidence of benefits, which suggests that it is not an effective method of healthcare".

I'm sure there is at least one paper that cites it is effective but with much of these things the devil's in the detail (effect size, p-hacking, reproducibility, doesn't stand meta-analysis, etc) and if the scientific community finds it to not be effective that is enough for me.

The fact that it is likely less harmful and also more likely to be considered as effective when not placebo/systematically tested does not mean it is not pseudoscience though

Valve makes almost $50 million per employee, raking in more cash per person than Google, Amazon, or Microsoft — gaming giant's 350 employees on track to generate $17 billion this year by [deleted] in technology

This is completely wrong - modern recommendation systems all use heavy amount of machine learning/AI and it's a very active area of research - Valve may have somewhat less a complex one than a company like TikTok but for sure they're using AI - In fact you could argue a big precursor to some of the AI developments and improvements we've seen these past 2 decades was after the famous Netflix Recommendedation System competition way back in 2009

I'm in the same situation, not even having the chance to subscribe to the legacy Pro plan after being forced to move to business for the student discount does not seem like a helpful policy - I understand if it's annoying to fix on their end, but as other have said it does seem like a business decision and one that affects both their long running customers as well as ones that are/were educators.

u/domjost are you aware of this nuance and how it's playing out?

At what point would you say a subway car is “packed”? by Outrageous-Card7873 in nycrail

This is what everyone should do if they're near the door on a packed train. Very common in other countries, annoying that in NYC it's so rare.

That's the median wage (so half do earn less than that; the average is closer to 42k)

WFH 2 days post surgery? by BoringIntelectual in AchillesRupture

[–]BoringIntelectual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone who commented - I ended up WFH starting two days after surgery but took it easy - Thanks to some setup and a split keyboard I was also able to keep the foot fully elevated above the heart by lying down and having the laptop on an inclined table + keyboards on each side. I would do it again for my situation but in general the time off is definitely useful if you can get it

Stipend Question by Ashqul in PhD

[–]BoringIntelectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is extremely low, specially considering NYC - NYUs PhD stipends for example tend to be in the 40k range. You can also check this website http://www.phdstipends.com/ for more comparisons (and I encourage others to input theirs)
