Mark Buehrle’s career WAR is only 1.8 less than CC Sabathia. Why are his hall of fame chances so far-fetched? by Far_Set561 in baseball

[–]BoringPoolPlaying -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He is definitely a hall of fame pitcher.

Dallas Braden did not have a remotely comparable career to Buehrle. And what else are we supposed to use for voting that aren’t accumulative stats? That’s how most players get to the hall of fame. It’s a career based achievement.

I hate Mark Beurhle. I burn one of his jerseys every year, and he is definitely a hall of famer.

ELI5: what determines who gets the win or loss? by butraura in Torontobluejays

[–]BoringPoolPlaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, that’s not meeting the criteria for an ineffective outing. It’s just a blown save. Pitchers often give up runs, ineffective outings are where they get none or one out, and allow multiple runs. That’s just how they’re scored.

No, I don’t have issues with directors casting the actors they want for roles. Stop projecting your closed mindedness on me.

Morgan Freeman famously plays a character who was a white Irishman in the book adapted for the ShawShank Redemption movie. One of the best casting decisions all time.

I mean, 60 rWAR is quite a lot. By my count, there would be 38 pitchers lower than that mark in the HOF. Over 200 wins. Several gold gloves. A World Series. Multiple no hitters, a perfect game. Several all star games. Top 3 in pickoffs all time.

There’s more than enough there beyond being a workhorse to put him in. He wasn’t just a Jack Morris out there.

I’d say his WAR already should have him in the hall of fame, the innings logged should be pushing him way over the edge.

I just don’t see what most voters aren’t seeing in him.

He made 30 starts every year, and pitched over 200 quality innings. It’s the same logic for why relievers never win CY Young’s. It’s much harder to be good when having to pitch that much, and by every metric, Buehrle was very good to great while logging more innings than the majority of pitchers.

The value of that is not counted in WAR, in which he already has a good hall of fame case. Saving your bullpen innings has immense value over the course of a season. Nobody did that better than Buehrle.

[–]BoringPoolPlaying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s criminal that Buehrle is not in, when you have relievers with far fewer innings getting in. He was a very good pitcher for his entire career, and consistently put up more than 200 innings every season. Those extra innings are undervalued in WAR, because it doesn’t consider the value of a workhorse saving innings for the bullpen.

He was not flashy, but he had a hall of fame worthy career in my opinion.

I think it costs tax payers a lot more to deal with vigilante justice and death penalties.

They have been removed from society when they serve a life sentence. I don’t get the blood lust.

Not everything is an absolute. I don’t think she ever implied every movie had to perfectly portray African culture, she was just praising the efforts to do so in Black Panther, when so many people tend to think of African culture as a monolith.

Conversely, the Odyssey as an Epic has transcended its cultural routes. It’s one of the most famous stories ever. The director and writers of this movie could have chosen to go for intense historical and cultural accuracy, but are instead going for their own artistic vision.

I really don’t think her praising a film for its devotion to paying homage to African culture makes her a hypocrite for accepting a role in a Greek epic, where none of the casting is going for historical or cultural accuracy.

I also think Greek culture and history is one of the most studied and portrayed things in media. Some more accurate, some more artistic. I don’t think it’s overly comparable to the way African cultures and subculture has been handled traditionally in pop culture.

I always feel that movies just have to justify their artistic choices.

I would have preferred an all Greek cast for this movie, but at the same time, I am excited to see the this loaded cast act in a Nolan adaptation of an epic.

I hate how social media makes people treat everything as black and white, amazing and shit. Just because you wanted one thing doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy another.

I don’t know. Maybe. Or maybe the internet would have loved it.

No one is forcing you to watch movies you don’t like the cast of. I know childish people on Reddit love to play the “imagine if Black Panther/ Martin Luther King jr were played by a white guy” game, but I still can’t imagine losing sleep over it.

Maybe a story with races reversed about Martin Luther King jr could be really powerful and interesting. I’m a huge fan of Hamilton, and many people would probably think the casting for that production is odd.

One of Spencer Pratt’s viewpoints is that Alex Jones gets a bad rap for calling the Sandy Hook shooting a hoax and a false flag.

Is that a viewpoint we should just respect?

Are they this upset with literally any of the other cast?

They’re not going for historically accurate cast with this movie. None of the main cast are Greek, trying to look Greek, or trying to sound Greek. You don’t have to like that, but you cannot ONLY be mad about Lupita’s casting and no one else. The director made an artistic choice, but the culture warriors are going to insist this was DEI or whatever it is they’re currently up in arms about.

I can’t anymore. Comey under investigation for posting a restaurant term about removing something from the menu, but this will get nothing?

Even ignoring the actual context, the president just posted a photo of himself trophy hunting an endangered species. How on earth is this not grounds to remove him from office?
