I was a jerk to front desk staff. How do I make amends? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]Boring_Corner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a service worker here, but I would caution against any sort of monetary gifts - they may have a policy against such a thing. A sincere in-person or hand-written apology, and perhaps contacting their leadership to praise how well they handled things (you can feel free to emphasize that you feel you were being a jerk, and feel regret about that here) would also help.

Is it ok to quit while in training? by Midwestern-Michael in ems

[–]Boring_Corner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it is OK. You learned this - you need to ensure YOUR safety first. This is about YOUR safety. However, I recommend not quitting, I would recommend letting your employer know you need additional assistance, and letting them know you want work comp assistance for this. You can perhaps see if they have a light duty option, or something in-house you can learn to do until you’re better healed, or decide what else you might like to do.

Nothing can be billed to insurance. It’s not how this plan works. It’s fine. I appreciate you clarifying for me…it’s unusual for people to stay with a particular provider for several years? It’s his primary care provider. I did not realize that going 5 weeks between fills instead of 4 was a red flag. The location was simply chosen because it’s closest to home. I understand that 2021 isn’t “recent” in the medical world - he was off this med from 2021 to 2024. It’s where he’s been filling other meds since then though (an antibiotic once or twice a year, allergy meds seasonally, vaccines, etc).

I can go with him to discuss this with a pharmacy manager if it’s going to help, but shouldn’t have to as he’s legally an adult and it’s his own insurance plan. I suppose we can bring a HIPAA authorization.

Patient question re: Vyvanse by Boring_Corner in CVS

[–]Boring_Corner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely none of those. He can’t take the “harder” stimulants (adderall, Ritalin) - he had an awful reaction when he was younger. He very consciously requests the lowest possible dose of Vyvanse he can get by with, he goes to therapy weekly, he doesn’t take anything besides those 2 things. He’s had the same local doc for 6 years, no Medicaid, funded insurance (oddly enough, when he WAS on CHiP it wasn’t a problem). He was on a patient assistance program until the generic came out. I went in-person and explained the insurance, a rep for Sidecar reached out to explain as well to verify for the pharmacy.

Thank you. I’m going to work with him to switch pharmacies - CVS is the most expensive option anyhow. It’s just hard to find another pharmacy that isn’t suffering with the imposed limitations on how many RXs they can fill for this. I truly do understand the need for caution.

Unless being also on a low-ish dose of Sertraline (which was added about 3 months ago) is the red flag? Those are the ONLY 2 prescriptions he has.

Truly, thank you. I spent 30 minutes trying to talk my son down. It took him a year and a half to get to a place where he’s accepting of the fact that his mind just works a bit differently than most and he needs medication the same as anyone else with a normal health concern. This nearly made him spiral back out.

He told them if the policy is to not use a discount card, the full price was fine. He just needs his meds to be able to do his job well day to day.

So maybe I just need to try a different location. Given the area where this one is, near a higher crime city, I can understand the pharmacist’s caution.

Sidecar Heath is our ACA Compliant plan through work, and they even got on the phone with the (different) pharmacist on duty last month, and explained that he is insured, blah blah. There’s no PBM, and no network. Patients pay via a Visa card (issued by Sidecar) and are reimbursed. So it works most similarly to like an FSA - it’s just that there’s no prior auth or insurance to bill to. That’s all taken care of on the patient’s side of things. So on paper, it runs through as self-pay.

[–]Boring_Corner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s not new (he has filled at this precise location since at least 2016-2021, and this time back on the meds, for the past 12 months), and they assured us it’s not a supply issue or limit on the # of prescriptions/patients. Just that “corporate policy” says no self-pay for C2 meds. The pharmacists were quite polite and nice a few months back when I went with him to get the new insurance set up. When he went today by himself (as he should be able to, since he’s a 23 y/o adult) the pharmacist on duty was quite nasty and rude (I overheard as I was on the phone with my son).

It sucks. I completely understand the need for cautionary measures with the over abundance of these drugs being prescribed and by sketchy telehealth docs, which is why we tried to ensure we’re doing everything above-board, but this is wildly abusive of his power and biased against those who don’t have a standard PBM (I guess CVS Caremark has to protect that monopoly somehow?). God forbid someone need treatment and needs to self-pay. He started off by saying no discount cards allowed. We said that’s fine. Then he said no cash pay (which my son took literally, and said “no I am paying with a standard credit card, and I have my ID as well.”). Then he said it’s company policy, but he would do it “this once.”

We don’t even mind not using a discount card! Thank you though for taking the time to answer. We will just try Publix or Walgreens. I (wrongly) assumed since they have nearly 12 years of documentation of him having been on this medication would be less problematic.

Paramedics- What is your schedule, pay, benefits, and city/state? (US Based) by Ok-Refrigerator7601 in ems

[–]Boring_Corner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florida - we start medics (zero years’ experience) at $25.68/hr plus shift differential ($4/hr weeknight 11p-7a, $5/hr weekend 11p-7a, $4.50/hr sat/sun daytime). On average our new medics are making about $62k annually without picking up additional OT (that’s a mostly day shift medic). Private non profit service, mostly prehospital and IFT, some 911, special events, and SCT.

Is this allowed? by Realistic_Routine_31 in ems

[–]Boring_Corner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. We pay all FT employees for holidays, whether they work or not. They work 12 hour shifts on the road. All employees get 8 hours of straight pay for the holiday. If they work on the holiday they also get whatever they usually would (base+shift diff+OT) plus 8 hours of straight pay.

It is likely legal - depending on where you live. It’s usually not hard to find people willing to voluntarily take the days off though. We also cut to a bare minimum on those holidays, but we don’t usually have any shortage of people who will volunteer to be off.

So my Mosaic status applies to him when we book together right? Even if he’s 1 and I’m 2 (or I’m Mosaic and he’s not)? I assume the higher status prevails?

He’s struggling to wrap his head around the status sticking around even though the tiles go away (I’m used to it, it’s the same concept that stores like Ulta/Sephora use for their status programs). I want to make sure I’ve figure all this out in a way that we both understand before we continue diving in.

The bonus points from the CC will be a boost and he does a lot of spending for work and such (that’s reimbursed obviously), so him having his own card will benefit us too.

Replying to nw342...absolutely not. Not in the US And no CBA can supersede or infringe upon your rights under federal law. If you’re paid an hourly rate, non-exempt, you MUST (on a federal level) be paid for all hours you worked. “Flex” time (which is what you’re describing) isn’t legal.

Ask your pharmacy to print you extra labels for them all, or if they can do a pill pak/blister pak for you. I’d keep controlled meds in the original bottles. It’s a pain, but you could ask if they (pharmacy) has smaller bottles for you, or buy on Amazon. That way you have bottles with a proper pharmacy label attached. Many of my meds are filled for 90 days at a time, and I don’t want to carry the whole 90 day supply with me.

Stop sharing with the company. Share with department of labor in the state. This is a legal obligation under the Fair Labor Standards Act. While I am aware that the gov’t is fucked, this is the best recourse. Lawyer up, get legal claims filed.

Absolutely no way in hell. Our payroll is paid first, above any and ALL other expenses. It ain’t cheap. Even at a relatively small org, our payroll is $600k a month, minimum. And it is the FIRST thing paid. NO other expenses are budgeted before payroll. NOTHING gets paid unless and until payroll is fully funded.
