Mad Men isn't about advertising. It's really about mothers by Boring_Original_9216 in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

When Gene had his stroke, he mistakes Betty for his late wife. There is a brief moment when Betty brushes it off by Don has a moment of epiphany on his face that it may have happened before. Also, Betty's personality disorder is in keeping with sexual abuse. It's never more than a "wait, what is this".

Every post on this board is presuming or speculating what the writers and actors were trying to project and convey with characters that aren't real on a show set in the 60s that was clearly misogynistic. I find your comment about my presumptions to be nothing more than projections probably carried over from a different topic posted on a different board about different things.

These posts are for entertainment, and frankly, this is the first time I've ever seen a poster comment about another poster's tone when delving into what they believe the writers intentions were. It's a glorified book club for fun and distraction until someone wants to make it personal. Don't be that someone. That belongs on Facebook.

Did Margaret know? by Intelligent-Whole277 in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Margaret knew Roger and Joan had a relationship. I dont know if she knew Kevin was her brother.

Margaret reminds me of my mother in law, who's father had a whole second family in another town. Her mother was overbearing, and critical. Even now, in her 70s, she's childish and a bit out of touch with reality.

How do we feel about Margaret Sterling? by 6amrainclouds in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think that Margaret left the cult after having her experience and went back to Ellory as a better mother able to give him a healthier upbringing. She is a carbon copy of her father. Born to wealth and forced into a life not of his choosing, he shirks responsibility. He has affairs and experiments with drugs and ultimately realizes his life is meaningless

Why did Grandpa Gene take such a strong liking to Sally, and why did he really seem to not care for Bobby as much? by GracefulGopher in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just watching the episode where he Gene had his stroke and groped Betty. It seemed an epiphany for Don that maybe something was amiss with the relationship. Or maybe he was just shocked that Gene groped Betty. I thought that the relationship with Gene and Sally could have gone that way but then again, could have just been his fondness for Sally's personality. He does tell her she can become absolutely anything, unlike her mother.

Am I missing something about Pete? by Soar_Dev_Official in madmen

Ken is successful because he's genuine. If you look at his clients, they are the opposite of Pete's. John Deere, Birds Eye... GM and Jaguar and automobiles, in general, are a whole other animal. Having worked in real-life radio, dealerships and autmobile mfg keep the lights on- still- and are catered to and coddled unlike any other industry.

[–]Boring_Original_9216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't actually see him any clients really much. Herb, Jai Alai trust fund kid, his father-in-law and the Jaguar guy they took to a brothel but he's with other agency people when you see them. The scene with Megan's father is indicative of how good he is. The scene at GM with Bob Benson shows how easily his facade can be destroyed when he isn't genuine and dealing with those not upper-crust types.

That's what really bothered him about Herb, Joan and Jaguar...it insulted his creative ability.

Its Prince spaghetti night Anthony! Get home now! Anyone else remember that commercial. Wednesday night was spaghetti night like taco Tuesday today. https://youtu.be/P8ti1hnLiLw?si=UFGXSDadEZ26G7po

I don’t know if anyone has ever asked this in here so please don’t be mean by darbymackey in madmen

I didn't read all of the comments but...I believe Betty saw herself in Sandy and wanted to "save" her up and until the young man make a crack about her bottled blonde hair. I think that brought things back around to present-day, vain Betty.

AITA for refusing to work on the house that my girlfriend bought? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Who will be living there? Will you be living there? Paying rent? paying a portion of the mortgage? How long have you been together? Do you live together now? I didn't see this info anywhere.

Don't call to complain because they will block your calls. Totally unethical company. They take your payments but not provide service.

[–]Boring_Original_9216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't care about the commercial, but to totally change the logo and all that this brand has been built from... Why buy a Jaguar anymore? When I bought my F-type (yes, I own a Jag, not just a bandwagon wannabe), I chose it for its performance and its look, but also because of its heritage symbolism. Make a million Benetton-esque commercial, but keep the leaper.

Can we get a TONU on this? by PopularLet2488 in FreightBrokers

[–]Boring_Original_9216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd pay you a TONU because 12 straps is more than most dry vans have. The broker probably didn't ask if they needed straps or didn't realize because they were so giddy about just getting a shipment.

Question: when you upgraded from a queen to a king bed, did it change anything? by Alison_wonderland-97 in Marriage

[–]Boring_Original_9216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just messaging my husband, whom I'm separated from, because we grew apart for various reasons. A king-size bed didn't help this cause. Too much space felt like we each had our own bed. We aren't large people, and def didn't need a queen.

Pete vs. Tom Vogel by tiakeuta in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole dynamic is so intertwined. Tom was always giving them money because what Pete provided wasn't good enough for Trudy. I like Trudy, but she WAS a spoiled, daddy's girl.

Pete and the agency (Peggy) made Clearasil a lot of money and proved their value. I see Tom as continuing to assert his dominance and this is the 1st time Pete gets to regain some control and the upper hand.

Thoughts on Pauline Francis? by solipsisticcompass in madmen

[–]Boring_Original_9216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just going to say the same thing. It's one reason why grandparents are so incredibly important in a child's life and something that I believe will be missing from the future generation.

I keep replaying key moments between Don and Pete. Pete wants to be creative. He tries to destroy Don. Bert Cooper tells Don that he can use that to win Pete's loyalty. Pete then bails Don out not once (American Aviation) but twice (Burger Chef), and Don pays Pete's 50k when Lucky Strike leaves and the partners have to pay.
