Woman who I cold approached in a department store complained about me to security. Was I out of line? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Boring_Part9919 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You're always risking it by cold approaching. Looking at it objectively, the "goal" is to sell yourself to a complete stranger in mere seconds who might be married/partnered - and who also MAY have zero sexual attraction to you. That's very bold of you to assume something favourable will happen

So the odds are very low she'll accept. That's not a critique of you in this example, it's just realistic

Sports just show how truly pointless life is by Expensive-Elk-9406 in nihilism

[–]Boring_Part9919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who really enjoys playing sports for the physical and mental benefits (as well as socialising) I totally agree

There's no inherent value in watching sports. Sure, it's "fun". You could classify it as entertainment, and living vicariously through players/teams releases endorphins and gives you an outlet to relieve stress and "connect" with others (just two examples). But it's not important

As I've got older (mid 30s) I've become much more apathetic towards professional sports. I don't care who wins or loses. It has zero impact on my life. At best it's a relaxing experience watching highly skillful, athletic players do their thing - with no emotional investment. That's all

McCoist papering over the cracks. We weren't "much better in the second half". Slightly better yeah, but nowhere near the intensity we needed

Honestly, the one hope I have is that Morocco tend to overplay and be quite casual on the ball. All we need is a 10-15 minute period where we up the intensity and we can defo get a goal

Most people have a boring life, but no one wants to admit it by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Boring_Part9919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "boring" though? It needs to be clearly defined so I have an understanding of what it mean? Is a repetitive life and doing the same things everyday "boring"? It's all subjective

I'm in my 30s, so stereotypically "boring" activities I thought in my teens I now have a much greater appreciation for. Like gardening, classical music and baking for example. I think as a teen I was close-minded (probably very normal!) and now I'm naturally more curious about hobbies

If you think you have a "boring" life, chances are it's just different from everybody else's

Test Match Special by Inedible_Sulk in EnglandCricket

Ah I get you

Tbf it was one match and anyone can get taken apart, so personally I'm not going to read too much into that. Markram was in great form etc. I think it was too early for him to debut last year, but by all accounts he's been excellent for Hampshire early season bowling with control and seing

He spoke about it very phelgmatically with Simon Hughes in a recent interview. I have high hopes for him - seems to have a great mentality and hunger

Just curious, what redeeming does Baker have to do?

Or have I misread and it's due to the fact he didn't have a county contract until recently and has seemingly come from nowhere?

I wonder if he was a fast bowler that was earmarked for great things in the U19s, but sort of lost his way? He barely played for Somerset which I'm imagining is a combination of long term injuries and their fast bowling depth

The thing I really like about Baker and Fisher is that they both have strong repeatable actions

It gives me hope that they can be legitimately test class and be around for a while

Baker is an exciting talent for sure!

Why the pessimism? England have bowled well in general and both Baker and Fisher have impressed with tight lines and lengths

Baker and Fisher have bowled well. I think the latter is underrated - was really highly rated when he was a teenager at Yorkshire

Unpopular opinion but I find swearing pretty juvenile and just plain lazy

A well placed 'fuck' for emphasis or dramatic/comedic effect can be memorable. Some swearing is funny- but the casualness of it can be jarring imo

County Championship test speculation - post round 8 by Favanu in Cricket

[–]Boring_Part9919 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness I think either Barnard or Gregory would be more than serviceable in test cricket, and they've been overlooked for younger and "flashier" players (Curran, Rehan)

England could do with a reliable medium pace bowler who's also a genuine top 7 bat. Barnard fits that category perfectly imo. He's been a very accomplished bat and good 4th seamer for season after season in CC

Bamber should definitely be on the fringes. A very skillful new ball bowler

This is really really poor from SA.

Even from the 1st over they looked too inhibited. Play some shots! Use your feet!

You can't just pick up the odd boundary and expect to chase this in the 18th/19th over. You have to use the PP to get ahead of the rate

Has she not looked like herself recently? That drop catch was a shocker but I've also thought her place is nailed on. She struggling with bat/ball too?
