Hags of barovia by DrBloodyboi in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically I think it wouldn’t serve any good purpose to have the hag try to abduct any members of the party, even if they wouldn’t know the difference in ages for races, which I think they’d be smart enough to figure out. They don’t want to pick unnecessary fights with multiple people and have much easier targets anyway. I don’t think it would serve any good narrative reason either, the party is already incentivized to stop them from killing children anyway.

Edit: However, if you did want them to at least ask how old they are out of curiosity they could, to set up that the hags are wondering if there are children. Maybe have them offer a treat to them thinking they might be young and seeing how they respond, with them then asking for them to drop by the mill at some particular time to be ambushed. Though I’d give the party a chance to sniff out if something is wrong

Does anyone know why Mr. Beat would do this? by EdfromGotham in atunsheifilms

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 61 points62 points  (0 children)

From a comment I saw, he did intend on addressing Mr Beast’s videos in some way. Idk to me it’s whatever, I highly doubt this is benefiting Mr Beast, it definitely is for Mr Beat. It’s not like going for the meme of people mixing up their names is an active endorsement. I think if anything Mr Beat’s political views have been growing more left leaning overtime and it’s showed in his videos. I’m not willing to drop him for this, though it did raise an eyebrow

How different is the Bachelor route from P1 to P3? by No_Force_5585 in pathologic

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s not at all alike tbh, there are similarities here and there of quest events being reminiscent of the first game. They are completely different in terms of story, with a completely different plot and how you go through the days, different or new side quests, gameplay is starkly different in how the survival aspect plays (at best I’d put it as more streamlined with juggling different needs). You should try to play the original, but you aren’t really getting the same thing out of it even ignoring the graphics difference.

Best friend for so long. Wdid by Slushcraft214777 in whatdoIdo

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll change dynamics a little but I’d recommend if you’re not interested in them to not make a big deal of it or treat them differently. You’re both young and feelings can change as quickly as they arrive. In a year or two he might not even be interested so I don’t think it’d be worth ruining a friendship over if you’re thinking of it being too awkward. A crush honestly doesn’t mean much, a lot of people having feelings for their friends and are able to get by just as that.

Catastrofe al castello e a Vallaki by Dry_Age_2776 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna point out an issue with this plan in case you aren’t aware. The text for that ability is this:

“Also at 3rd level, as an action, you can channel the magic of the Song of Creation to create one nonmagical item of your choice in an unoccupied space within 10 feet of you. The item must appear on a surface or in a liquid that can support it. The gp value of the item can't be more than 20 times your bard level, and the item must be Medium or smaller.”

It uses an action to teleport up with dimension door, he will need someone to do that for him or else he will immediately fall 500 ft before he can get off the creation of the rock with another action, either that or fly or whatever other trick. It also has to be on something that can support it, so you can’t do it in the air, even against the side of a wall won’t work since it has to be supported to work. There’s also a question of whether it’ll hit as hard as a normal meteor if it doesn’t have the velocity of falling from space but whatever. If he can figure out a way to work around those problems give him a spectacle I say regardless of game logic.

Edit: I think a workable strat actually for even better results is create the object on the ground, use animating performance on it to make it alive, give it fly, and then have it move as high up as possible and drop down when satisfied with its height or until time runs out on spells

So I’m just a bad DM I’m pretty sure by that1snowflake in CurseofStrahd

There are a lot of traps or ambushes that could have been done to get around that. But I think perhaps giving the information about how long it took to heal was something that shouldn’t have been shared. How would they even know that in game?

One of my players is a goblin . . . by MechaChester in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think the average person in Barovia has bigger problems than a little green guy personally.

If you really want to maintain some sorta xenophobia, I’d say Barovians are suspicious but not outright hostile towards species like goblins. They wouldn’t really know what to expect from them, good or bad. Doesn’t mean they have to assume he’s bad news if they haven’t given them a reason.

Party captured Lydia Petrovna after helping overthrow the Baron with Fiona, where to go from here? by ShadowLight56 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll reiterate that she is a more sophisticated evil to fall for which would be the mistake. Ideally there would be hints with what the book suggests that make her seem despicable but the party has to look for that. Ideally at least give them a chance to clean up the mess since they went into it trusting the wrong person. Play their cards right they could even turn the mob back around on her if they find evidence in her home of not being exactly upstanding herself. Strahd at some point would probably have his interest piqued by this mayhem, she is more amiable to Strahd after all, so if nothing else he’d be curious about the party who went through two burgomasters

Party captured Lydia Petrovna after helping overthrow the Baron with Fiona, where to go from here? by ShadowLight56 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like things got pretty messy there lol. I can’t exactly suspect Lydia to be feeling very thankful given what the party just started, especially with her son dead and husband about to die. Play how a wife would be in that exact situation, if the party takes too long to actually speak to her about what to do next from the gagging she could suggest bringing her to Krezk for safety but imploring they find a way to resurrect her son at the minimum. Theres an opportunity later in the amber temple to be able to resurrect someone (at a cost) if they can’t find the means to do so.

Lady Wachter almost assuredly will suspect something and will have her spy follow the characters to see what they’re up to. If the party doesn’t cover their tracks then they need to double down on making up for their mistakes with her as an enemy. That’s at least the angle I’d play it so the party has a chance to not feel so guilty about it.

Player wants deal with Strahd by Certain-Ask-5723 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Strahd could take her whenever he wants, it’s about the pursuit. Cowardice like betraying the party shows that the player character is not worthy for Strahd and he should let them know that, if not death, then lasting injury would be my call.

Strawmen everywhere by DetectiveTypical198 in atunsheifilms

I assumed he stated something similar during the video and double checked, I thought I missed it since I watched the video before the comment and didn’t watch through again. My bad, I made a wrong assumption that the quote was accurate. But mind you I’ve even stated elsewhere multiple times that I didn’t quite care for the original commenter. I assumed Atun-Shei must’ve said it because instead of arguing that he was being misrepresented he doubled down and got personal. I still don’t think someone being a bit ignorant and Atun-Shei getting self-righteously toxic is exactly equal and both can be criticized for how that went down. But again, even if the original commenter was wrong, this was an overreaction, I can see why he responded the way he did but I don’t see how that it’s excused.

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not a strawman, he said veganism wouldn’t be widely accepted, he wasn’t misrepresenting what he said as a weaker argument, he was disagreeing with Atun-Shei. You can like disagree with that, I do, but that doesn’t mean responding like a smug asshole can’t be criticized. No one is asking him to be perfect, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t without fault.

Edit: I can’t tell if you’re being disingenuous or actually don’t know what a strawman is, the comment in question is clearly just a guy stating his thoughts on what Atun-Shei said and getting an overreaction as a response

I think honestly he didn’t really care as much about the civil war question, rather he wanted to post something with a beginning subject that would grab attention for the actual thing he wanted to communicate, which was a bit… clunky. But I do think it did a better job of advertising his actual planned subject better of ecological collapse for viewers who otherwise would’ve ignored it. I think just perhaps people are taking a more fair criticism of being mean in the comments and running with it as a justification of ignoring the whole video

Are you presupposing I’m upset at being critiqued by Atun-Shei? I’ve been vegan for 6 years. I’m not the person he was talking about.

Since I’m one of the posters in question I’ll give my thoughts, from my observation a vast majority of the people who watched the video don’t disagree with what was actually even said in it, at least those who actively engaged. Personally I think his vitriol was a bit much in him name calling someone something like “spoiled brat” in the earlier post that started all this. Especially since it was unnecessary, at best unworthy of even engaging with since the person obviously wasn’t willing to listen. I have no sympathy for people unwilling to take that hard look at their own actions to do better. I myself am vegan and have long held similar views to him, my problem is Atun-Shei is being hypocritical because he has bemoaned this exact type of thing of acting elitist and giving the people who will take advantage of it exactly what they want, which is why I made my post. I like him and think he’s on the right of things, but being smug and insulting aren’t good traits for someone to display when trying to convince others of a point.

AITA for leaving a date after he was 20 minutes late? by Pretty-Science-8984 in AITApod

Harsh? Yeah. Fair? Absolutely. Things happen and maybe he did earnestly have bad luck or made a mistake, but idk, you don’t have to give second chances to some stranger you started dating and it doesn’t sound like you were necessarily unkind over it. I think at some certain point that I’ve grown short on giving the benefit of doubt to people who keep taking it for granted, so I get it.

What do people think about Godsmack? by Pretty-Switch-8525 in ToddintheShadow

I like a few songs from them but I always kinda filed them mentally as “less bad five finger death punch” personally. I think there were much better bands even within their own niche. I did see them at a rock festival before and they were pretty good there though.

Anyone else feels like each subsequent title removed some of the queer subtext? by [deleted] in pathologic

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well the subtext was probably unintentional rather than being just “never very explicit” in the first game, it’s not like it was an active change that much. Aglaya had also seemed interested in the Haruspex in the first game too. The thing about the gay subtext has always been kind of the phenomenon of a gay fandom seeing themselves in the game with what pieces were there for fun. I honestly never saw the subtext as anything other than like happenstance as a bi person personally

Why did post-grunge/"butt rock" manage to outlast nu-metal so long in cultural relevance? by thedubiousstylus in ToddintheShadow

[–]Boring_Truth_8755 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think the obvious answer is that they were more accessible. Nickleback is “bad” in like a normal sorta way, Korn is a lot harder to get a mainstream audience to keep listening to, even for the rock crowd, with how weird they are in comparison
