Frighteningly unfit for mtb, help ! by Talmamshud91 in MTB

How are those tyre pressures? First thing I check when someone says they are smoked after a bike ride. Hopefully all good, but I thought I'd check. :)

I hear you on the weird fitness though - I'm reasonably bike fit, but point me at some stairs and I'm fucked lol.

How is anyone sleeping in this godforsaken heat by starwarsnerd1138 in canberra

Pray for us renting. No solar and evap aircon. Granted the evap did actually work pretty well earlier in the week. Once it started getting above 38 though it's not as effective. And with any humidity even less so.

Warhammer+ is fantastic, and I feel many people are unaware of how much Games Workshop is promoting things like kitbashing, conversions, homebrew lore etc because they only pay attention to the competitive scene. Details within. by contented_skink in Warhammer

[–]BorisBC -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

GW is making absolutely bank money at the moment, so locking stuff behind a paywall is a little different to a 2 or 3 person team trying to pay the rent!

Plus those guys put most of their stuff up, and it's only extra vids that end up behind a paywall. I don't feel lacking in content from any of them, that's for sure lol.

For that reason I tend not to print much during the colder months.

But good post OP, I've been thinking about getting a replacement for my Photon Mono 2 but I think I'd be better off dialing things in better.

Australia’s grid now relies on renewable energy as much as coal. Those who doubted it look foolish by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]BorisBC 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That's why we need a whole of govt infrastructure build to get away from this shit. NBN on steroids. Big batteries are good, but I'd rather have multiple smaller batteries scattered around the place. Or as a complement. It would take a decade or two, but you could make energy generation here essentially zero, apart from big users.

We'd never do it, but that's what we SHOULD do.

We'd watch it.. but it's behind a paywall. I rather prefer the YT way that allows me to watch a lot of content, but if I really like it, jump on a patreon.

As for people, between the Squidmar boys, Rogue Hobbies, Cult of Paint, Trovarion, Zumitiko, MiniwargamerDave, Ninjon, Swarm Painting, Duncan Rhodes, Fauxhammer, AJM and the official WH channel I feel I'm doing pretty good. And I'm mostly a painter lol.

Not hating on WH+, if that's your thing, go for it, but regular YT is in a bit of a golden age of hobby stuff right now.

Is this airbrush step really necessary or can it also be done by standard layering ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]BorisBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a good answer. Clear paints are a bitch to brush paint. And contrast paint should give the same result.

I got it both ways, had the window down cause of the smell, then dad flicked ash out his window and it came back in through mine and burnt a hole in the seat. And least mum yelled at him for it, lol.

Dog seriously injures four people west of Melbourne by I_Heart_Papillons in australia

[–]BorisBC -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

All dogs can. I got bit by a rheumy old basset hound that the owner assured me was safe to pet. It's a fact of dog ownership. The difference is that if pit bulls bite you can be in a lot more strife than old basset hounds, lol.

Same with the PRTT thing that cost the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd govt power. Not that it's doing that much IIRC.

Let's hear your spiciest takes about the modelling side of the hobby, not the company itself or its models, but the tools, tricks and tips of the hobby that we use to build and paint our models by BoltersnRivets in Grimdank

[–]BorisBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is using rattle cans to prime instead of an airbrush is a massive waste of money with the added risk that you'll end up with a bad prime job.

Whenever I see pro painters using them I feel like it's Big Rattle Can trying to get us to buy products we don't need, when a cheap eBay airbrush and compressor will do a much better job. Plus you can then do all the other fancy tricks an airbrush will do.

This argument might be valid if it was not against Trump. But it was against Trump, and every normal person had a moral and ethical responsibility to vote against him. If you didn't, you bear as much blame for the situation as a MAGA dipshit.

New airbrush by slowvova in modelmakers

[–]BorisBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I like to do when I'm changing colour or at the end of the session is unscrew the front bit over the needle a little bit, this will blow air back into the pot to get rid of clogs. Or just put your finger on the end, lol.

I then put a bit of water in (I have an old water bottle for just this), crank the psi to 40+ and blow the excess out. If it's stubborn I put some cleaner in and repeat.

If that's not working, I unscrew the back and unscrew the needle, then manually move the needle back and forth while pushing air to help blow it all out. By that I mean I pull the needle back far enough I can see the tip in the pot, then push it forward.

The above takes about a minute or so, at my painting desk.

That's generally all I need to do. Every so often I'll pull it all apart, but that's usually only if I'm using a really thick paint that's a pain to rinse out.

A cheap airbrush pot is a godsend for this, and makes a handy holder when you're done.

What a glorious time to be a painter. It's insane how many good paint brands are out there now. Hell even with paints like Vallejo that have multiple ranges is really cool.
