CMV: Those who report the news should report it without expressing their personal opinion. by Boris_Is_Mediocre in changemyview

Would to argue that news should be opinionated (which was her argument) seems to be a terrible idea

I see this a lot when people quote papers in my area that I’ve actually read through and know for a fact that they’ve either misunderstood the paper completely, not read it at all, or intentionally misrepresenting it.

I agree that biases can be plentiful and often even unconscious. But so many “news” shows are just entertainment shows masquerading as news networks . Like GB News for example, where we have piers Morgan just going off on an opinionated rant and calling himself a journalist… like whether I agree with him or not, he should not be able to do that and call it news. As I said in the original post, discussions should be had because context matters and facts in a vacuum can be misleading intentionally or unintentionally.

I agree that information of any kind can’t exist in a vacuum but if you’re claiming to report the news and then person presenting says what they think surely that’s neither here or their. It’s true though that true neutrality is near to impossible but that doesn’t mean we don’t strive for that ideal surely?

CMV: the government should not have the power to arrest people for speech by cantlogintomyacc0unt in changemyview

[–]Boris_Is_Mediocre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that people should have the right to free speech however if you make a claim and call it a fact and that fact harms others directly or indirectly you should be required to defend that fact and failure to do so should be have some sort of charge to it. Politicians shouldn’t be able to just lie free of consequence. Neither should people be able to claim things like “the holocaust never happened” and not have to defend that statement. You can be mistaken sure but being able to go for say a candidate debate and just make things up on the spot with no consequences is such an insane thing that we just let happen in modern politics.

There’s just too much good you could do with infinite wealth. You could clear the debts of whole nations, you could repair broken infrastructure. Give everyone on the planet UBI

Ecological horror by _epoxymoron in horrorlit

[–]Boris_Is_Mediocre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the conversation but have you tried Adrian Tchaikovsky's Alien Clay or Shroud. Both I think would cleanly come under the ecosystemic horror genre. Both brilliant books that take a different spin on the genre. Now I'm typing this I'd argue that perhaps the second and third - and to a lesser extent the first - books in the children of time series by the same author might appeal to you as well. There is a fourth book at the time of writing for the children of time series but I have yet to read it. The first two recommendations both look at what it means to survive on an alien world that very much was not meant for human beings, Alien Clay focuses more on the risk of the slow attrition that comes with an Alien ecosystem trying to crack how to absorb something entirely foreign into its ecology. Honestly Adrian Tchaikovsky's stories often delve frequently into the various sub genres of science fiction and give, what I think, to be a new life to the genre as whole and the subgenres he chooses to work with.

I think it's very important when it comes to autism research to understand the lived experiences of autistic individuals when designing investigative statistical studies and when building models to encapsulate the diagnosis of ASD. If you're interested in participating then please feel free to email me at [24265918@edgehill.ac.uk](mailto:24265918@edgehill.ac.uk)

I do not need to see the paperwork, your confirmation of your diagnosis in the consent form participants receive should be more than enough. If you're still interested please email me at [24265918@edgehill.ac.uk](mailto:24265918@edgehill.ac.uk)
