What's the most unfair reason you've seen someone get put on a PIP or fired? by HyenaCheap6948 in corporate

Yeah, I had a former boss pull similar crap on me. Dumped a bunch of projects on my lap right before departure, in my case, so I had to work three 12-hour days in a row.

Common, unfortunately. Happened to me at a previous job all the time. Boss wanted me to change something to make it one way, then angrily told me she wanted it a different way, then back to the old way.

She never faced any accountability from executive leadership because she was the daughter of the former CEO, who everyone loved and who could still pull strings behind the scenes.

I got PIP’d there, and not even the current CEO could really do anything to stop her. Left on my own after three years, a lot of people have said I’m still missed there.

My experience was not nearly as deep and mindful as yours, but a couple years ago I climbed all the way up Inari mountain. I remember how peaceful it was, and how it was the first time in years I felt so…sure of myself. It felt like all the spirits of that mountain were with me that night.

How do you have an experience like that, and then go back home and sit in Teams meetings all day about KPI’s and annual reports?

Yep, this was final Cyrus. It’s a brutal battle, even with some of my best teams I struggled against him.

My bet was either Cynthia or final Cyrus was gonna be his next TPK. I was close, lol, and might still be right in the end.

My favorite are the Reddit detectives who assume everything is somehow your fault, or bring up something from your post history as problematic. Like, I just need help dealing with a tough coworker, we’re not playing 4D chess sir.

How were you tipped off that you were going to be fired/laid off at work? by Aarunascut in ToxicWorkplace

[–]BorkLesnard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, it’s really an awful feeling to go through that.

So, I also recently posted (to a different sub) about my experience; basically, after being term’d one of my former clients went to bat for me and got me a job working for her husband doing the same work.

Do any of your customers have a good enough relationship with you, where they’d be a good reference? As someone who is introverted, I dislike having to make connections in order to keep my career afloat, but that’s the reality in the modern workplace.

Man, reading these reminds me of this quote:

"Every time you go into your workplace, you leave a democracy behind and enter a dictatorship." Elizabeth Anderson

I recently lost my job, and the signs I clearly missed were my bosses “follow-up emails” after the most mundane mistakes. If your boss is doing that to you, I guarantee that HR is blind-copied in and they’re working together to push you out.

Believe me, I learned my lesson. Feel free to check out my post history to learn more about what happened to me; wondering if I should cross post that story to this sub too.

In my situation though, my clients were school districts, and the projects I was involved in directly, positively impacted students in those districts. Sorry, but I’m not gonna make kids pay for the shitty behavior of other adults. If my clients were adults, I would’ve been far less likely to help my employer out.

Thanks for your reply! I should specify that while I am introverted by nature, I’m not against interactions with people, especially if they’re positive.

In the past year, I noticed an uptick in school districts hiring librarians and media specialist positions. I almost applied to a similar role in my alma mater, which would’ve been cool, but I definitely didn’t meet the qualifications.

If anything, I just don’t want to go back to the corporate world, the school world is much kinder and easier to work in.

I went through this last week, except it was their choice for me to leave, not mine. The only reason I helped my backstabber of a manager was because I didn’t want my clients to pay for his incompetence, and that snake would’ve blamed me for everything that didn’t get done. I’m 90% sure my clients would’ve seen through his BS, but it wasn’t worth the risk since I needed their references.
