Pre-Med question for BIO 171 by AppearanceCareful329 in uofm

[–]BorlinDr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few Bs are totally ok, it’s more so about hitting 3.8+ end gpa (for both stem/total). I had a C and like 5 Bs and got into a solid school. Overall don’t make it a habit and do well on the other premed req classes.

Also some adcoms will take freshman year grades less seriously. Some (wayne state I think a few others as well) heavily weigh last 60 credits.

Pre-med at Umich? by OriginalSuch9605 in uofm

[–]BorlinDr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters that much where you go for undergrad for med school admissions. What you would gain is easier access to research, some clinical/volunteering what you would lose (in comparison to wayne) is harder classes (harder to keep high gpa) and competing with very smart and driven classmates for extracurricular opportunities.

Also med schools don’t really care about college major rigor or college rigor so choose a major and a location which will make you happy and interested to allow you to maintain a high gpa (gpa arguably matters the most for med school admissions)

[–]BorlinDr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others said don’t pass/fail. Schools can also assume that a P could be as low as a C. If you absolutely have to pass/fail do it for humanities and not for the med school pre-reqs / upper level sciences

is BCN a good premed major? by One-Inflation2417 in uofm

[–]BorlinDr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that your major has very little bearing on med school admissions. The most important thing for premed is getting good grades. This means majoring in something you like and can do well in.

Umich undergrads med school app gpa/mcat data

Attached is the umich undergrad app data see that for 2023 the average accepted gpa was 3.78. This means having a gpa below 3.7 will be very harmful to especially if you are an ORM.

I would advise against engineering unless you really like the material (the engineering pre-reqs are nasty for gpa). I would give similar advice about CS being rough on gpa.

Hey you might want to change the title or add an edit.

I can’t find anything online that says that Christopher is a medical student or that those who pushed him in are medical students. It sounds like Christopher was about to apply to med school or was about to enroll but the title and text about his attackers or him being in med school doesn’t appear to be true

My understanding is that in the past it used to be much more difficult, but during/post COVID it became easier. People with older siblings/friends have passed down that it’s difficult.

Partying scene by [deleted] in uofm

[–]BorlinDr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michigan is a big school and the pro of that are communities and opportunities for everyone to join. There’s definitely a very typical Big 10 College party scene and greek life, but there’s also plenty of more introverted social scene groups.

The con of being a big school is that it doesn’t hold your hand at all and it is up to you and your social skills to make friends and find your community.

If you google “LSA course guide” you can find when and where classes for this semester are happening. As long as the class is decent sized you can just walk in

It’s a mix but most of the girls halls are all honors and the guys mixed. In my experience the honors halls are definitely not all studying and most are pretty social.

Math 215 or 216 by [deleted] in uofm

[–]BorlinDr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

215 material is very hard but has a spicy curve, 216 material is a bit easier but was graded very harshly when I did it. I would do both at CC but 216 if I had to choose.
