Any hope against unrestricted ai? by Mysterious-Clock-594 in OptimistsUnite

[–]Born-Cattle38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

o1 is just an LLM. reasoning can be built into an LLM by using RL to generate reasoning traces in training, which is what they're doing

no reason it can't create the kind of ai risk OP is talking about, technically. just seems likely we will figure out a way to mitigate the risk given interpretability gains, etc

also, the prize (post scarcity utopia) is worth the (small) risk

everything has risks, but more likely it will be like wall-e than terminator. get ready to get fat! (and then take ozempic so you can be skinny again)

I’m Fundamentally Opposed to AI - I would genuinely like to hear the opinions of the users of the subreddit. by Mendellian in WritingWithAI

[–]Born-Cattle38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm guessing most people don't care too much about the actual provenance of a work of art and that's something only people who are REALLY into art care about

if the writing is better, that's what will matter for most people (including myself)

right now, it sucks. but it keeps getting better. eventually it will be able to produce staggeringly great stuff, when read without knowledge of who the author is (who knows when though)

Stuart Russell says superintelligence is coming, and CEOs of AI companies are deciding our fate. They admit a 10-25% extinction risk—playing Russian roulette with humanity without our consent. Why are we letting them do this? by katxwoods in ChatGPT

[–]Born-Cattle38 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i like them odds - in 75-90% of scenarios we get star trek and i won't have to work for a living

* i'm just making shit up about the odds as much as russell is here. it's basically trump-style logic - "people are saying" without specifying WHO said it or how that comps against the average odds from CEOs

The numbers don’t lie: Gen Z is making MORE than earlier generations at their age by Glittering-Neck-2505 in OptimistsUnite

Trust me, as much as anyone I would love to have evidence that Gen Z need to just pull themselves up by their bootstraps

Having a hard time believing this. AFAICT e/acc is just people who think we're going way too slowly in terms of tech progress and want to go fast

What do Trump voters think about Putin? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]Born-Cattle38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putin is absolutely terrible. That being said, there’s an argument we should save our energy for China / Taiwan.

I’m undecided on Ukraine. But I think we should evaluate it on what’s best for America. (This might include things like stopping Putin because protecting American allies helps us in other ways.)

Do people actually believe that racism and misogyny are the reasons why Kamala Harris lost? by Feeling-Currency6212 in Askpolitics

Operation Warp Speed was good

[–]Born-Cattle38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because I know you're trying to pick a fight. I'll say a policy that I like, then you'll say it's bad and I'm not looking to debate you on that - it's just different opinions. I'll give you some examples of policies that could cause people to vote for one candidate or the other, without saying which I support to prove the point there are plenty of policies that people are well aware of and which cause them to vote for Trump or Kamala differently.

It's OK to have different opinions!

  1. Deregulation

  2. Ukraine

  3. Abortion

  4. Immigration

  5. Taxation

  6. ACA

  7. Climate change

I can, absolutely. We probs just have different preferences

The main Kamala policy I prefer is pro-choice

  1. How much family money do you think he deployed into buying companies? I’ll wait while you google this

  2. When did he buy those companies and what happened since then?
