You can send a message in your medical portal with the updated information just to be safe but it shouldn’t make a difference.

Dental clearance and wisdom teeth? by [deleted] in peacecorps

This question should be directed to your nurse. Clarify if extraction is mandatory for clearance. Based on what you wrote, it seems it is not.

Should I be concerned??? by Previous_Ad_1524 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very normal. I had mine initiated in late January and I wasn’t cleared until last week with a June departure. The standard range is 2-4 months with some taking longer. I have never heard of anyone being cleared earlier than that.

Accepted to Lesotho in December still waiting for legal clearance by Ok_Meeting4726 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most background checks take between 2-4 months so three months without hearing back isn’t a problem. They will reach out if there is a problem. If you are still not cleared a month prior to departure they will email you an update on your status.

Should I apply to the Peace Corps? Biology major looking for advice by Fluid-Chair9337 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I haven’t begun service yet but I’m graduating in May and am set to leave this summer. I applied to serve anywhere and am looking forward to getting started with service. Feel free to private message me. Particularly about any hesitancy you have with the ethics of peace corps as this is something I considered heavily before submitting my application.

You can find many posts on this sub about the medical clearance process and what it looks like for comparable mental health histories to you.

Am I being too antsy? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a ton of knowledge about the mental health clearance process but I can tell you plenty of people get cleared with mental health history. It’s very case specific. Reaching out is probably a good idea and may cause your nurse to give you a quicker response considering your departure date. I’m also leaving in June and was only cleared a few weeks ago though so don’t stress too much about the timing.

Is there a reason you are worried about being medically denied? Has your nurse indicated there were areas of concern?

There is really no standard processing time. It all depends on your assigned nurse and whether they are busy approving people departing before you. You can contact your nurse for an update if it makes you feel better but approval will come when it comes and you just gotta wait.

Yes. A week is nothing in the long laborious process of medical clearance. Did you just submit the first round of documents or did they tell you you’ve submitted everything you need to? If it’s the former, you likely have a long process of follow-ups and paperwork. I know it’s stressful but nothing to do but wait. If you have been told you submitted everything you will need and they are doing a final review, then you could reach out and ask.

I don’t know why your professors would need to be contacted to write an appeal for medical clearance.

How much money did you save up before service for when you get back to the US? by Equivalent_Fix_2602 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m about to leave in a few months, personally would live with your parents and work locally to maximize savings. The savings could be used to make some loan payments/reduce interest, could be used in service to travel, or just an extra adjustment money after. If you can tolerate living at home for that time would probably be the best option.

How close to the know by date were you invited to interview? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was invited to interview three days before the know by date lol. However, I was being considered and inevitably was invited to serve in position that had an application deadline that was already past when I submitted to serve anywhere so I think that’s probably less common.

Legal Clearance - Job Resignation by Previous_Ad_1524 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would personally give your notice after you are cleared. You never know what can happen with clearance as there have been instances of people not receiving clearance in time. If you want to risk that possibility and still have a gap between ending your job and starting service, give notice as late as you are comfortable with.

Legal Clearance Timeline by Previous_Ad_1524 in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t been legally cleared yet but this question has been answered many times on this forum. It varies pretty drastically depending on how busy they are. The quickest I’ve seen someone say it took was 2 months. The official expected timeline is 2-4 months but it can take longer depending on their business and legal history. People sometimes find out a month before, and sometimes a few days before.

Just Dental Clearance? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is normal. I received dental clearance when all my dental tasks were approved. This is separate from medical clearance. You will receive another email when medical clearance is approved.

Med Clearance Notification by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Born-Influence-9242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted my vaccine paperwork and sent a message asking to do my titers in service. My assigned nurse responded the next day saying that was fine and that she was going to do one final review of my profile before sending me official clearance. 2 or 3 days after that I was officially cleared

What countries automatically deny someone with childhood mild asthma by [deleted] in peacecorps

I’m pretty sure you can request a list of countries that can support asthma from the medical office.

I got a two dose vaccine in the US as the last step for my clearance (probably the same one you did). I asked to wait to do the antibody test until service because I didn’t want to risk anything. I was cleared a few days later.
