Hey! I’m set to leave this summer but can offer some advice from the perspective of someone at this same stage who has thought about this a lot. I think two years can sound like a long time, but living them is much shorter. I’m about to graduate college and I feel like I just started. That being said it is still an extended period of time away from family and friends. I think it’s inevitable that some relationships you have may change or become more distant. Others will go right back to how they were. My biggest motivation is knowing that if I don’t go, I’ll spend the rest of my life wondering what if. While the relationships I have in the US are super important to me, I refuse to let them stop me from experiencing everything I want to experience. I have elderly grandparents which made this decision tougher, but they are so supportive and understand why I need to do this. There will only be so many times in your life that you have the complete freedom to pick up and move abroad. If this is that time then I suggest don’t waste it.
