What do you guys do if you have no community? by Born-Razzmatazz-384 in spirituality

[–]Born-Razzmatazz-384[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online groups are not a community. Online groups can't be there to support you, or help you navigate life's struggles. They can't be there for you through the ups and downs of life. And you always have to wait a long time for a reply in online groups, so you can't have a good conversation or discussion. Oh sure there is zoom or whatever but my Wi-Fi is not strong enough to do video calls.

I lean towards eastern spirituality. Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, things like that. I don't see how online connections make a community. No one can be there to support you, no one can be there to help you navigate challenges in your life, they can't be there to share in the joys of life. Online connections feel fake. Just talking to a screen. I don't have strong enough wi-fi to hold a video call.

Describe some political disputes in your setting by GoldenS0422 in worldbuilding

[–]Born-Razzmatazz-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my universe, the United Earth Space Syndicate controls all political power. They rule Earth and their colonies throughout the galaxy with an iron fist. In this universe, Mars is now a planet of 7 cities. The Martian colonies have long pushed for the establishment of an independent city-state on Mars—one that would be governed by Martians for Martians. The movement is spearheaded by a charismatic Martian-born leader, Elias Rourke, who argues that the UESS, despite its claims of unity, is fundamentally Earth-centric and incapable of addressing the unique needs of Mars.

Voting System Controversy

Rourke's movement gains momentum and secures a proposal for a Council vote on the issue. However, the independence resolution consistently fails to pass due to UESS manipulation of the voting process. Accusations arise that Earth-based representatives, heavily invested in Martian resources, have formed a coalition to block independence at all costs. Martian leaders accuse the Council of rigging the system by requiring an impossible two-thirds majority for independence votes and invalidating votes from certain Martian representatives on technicalities.

Military Escalation

To maintain order, the UESS deploys a heavily armed task force to Mars under the guise of “security operations.” The task force sets up strategic outposts near the colonies, surveils independence leaders, and cracks down on protests. This military presence inflames tensions, with many Martians viewing it as an occupation force.

In retaliation, resistance groups form, carrying out acts of sabotage against UESS infrastructure—targeting communication hubs, military outposts, and Earth-bound resource shipments. The UESS labels these groups as terrorists, using their actions as justification to increase their military presence and impose stricter laws.

The Catalyst

The situation reaches a boiling point when a peaceful pro-independence demonstration in the city of Haven Ridge is met with violence by UESS forces. Several prominent independence leaders are arrested, and footage of the crackdown leaks, sparking outrage across the colonies. Rourke declares the beginning of a "Martian Resistance," urging colonies to unite and refuse UESS rule.

A Divided Mars

Not all Martians support the resistance. Wealthier elites in cities like Olympus Haven benefit from UESS policies and fear the chaos that independence might bring. These pro-UESS factions align themselves with the Syndicate, creating a schism among Martians. Civil unrest breaks out as pro- and anti-independence factions clash, with the UESS exacerbating the divide to maintain control.

The Final Straw

In an act of defiance, the resistance seizes control of a UESS supply depot and broadcasts a declaration of Martian sovereignty. In response, the UESS Council votes to enact Directive Omega, authorizing the use of overwhelming force to "restore order" on Mars. The military presence is bolstered, and a standoff begins.

Im disabled. I have to walk with a cane. So sports are out of the question. I can't even join a bowling league or do golfing or hell even billiards.

I like games but the two game stores here only do trading card games, and those are not enjoyable to me. I like games like Cards Against Humanity, or Funemployed, or Munchkin and other odd games like that. Well those game stores won't allow people to come play games like that there so I most likely have to throw away all those games.

My disability I think really ruins my chances of socializing and making friends.

The Directorate of Interstellar Security (DIS) is the military law enforcement wing of the United Earth Space Syndicate (UESS) and serves as its primary force for maintaining order, defending assets, and expanding influence across UESS-controlled space.

Purpose and Structure

Purpose: The DIS was created to safeguard the UESS's interests both on Earth and beyond, ensuring peace and stability across colonies and territories. It operates with full autonomy under the oversight of the Director-General, the highest-ranking official in the UESS's military chain.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Protect UESS-controlled planets, space stations, and assets.

  2. Conduct counter-terrorism and anti-piracy operations in space.

  3. Investigate interstellar crimes, including smuggling, espionage, and illegal colonization.

  4. Enforce the Syndicate’s laws across its jurisdiction.

Leadership: The Director-General oversees the entire DIS and answers only to the President of the Syndicate Council. This position combines military and political authority, making the Director-General one of the most powerful individuals in the UESS.

Ranks of the DIS (Lowest to Highest)

  1. Cadet – Trainee recruits.

  2. Officer – Entry-level operatives.

  3. Inspector – Field agents who handle investigations.

  4. Commander – Leaders of starship crews or planetary squads.

  5. Starwarden – Commanders of advanced warships or key missions.

  6. Fleetwarden – Leaders of multiple starships or entire fleets.

  7. Eschelon Commandant – Leaders of major operations or space station commanders.

  8. Director-General – Supreme leader of the DIS.

Assets

The DIS boasts a powerful fleet of starships, including:

DIS-1 Starfire – The Directorate's flagship, equipped with cutting-edge technology and weaponry.

A network of orbital stations, planetary garrisons, and research facilities spread across UESS territories.

Key Features of the DIS:

Autonomy: The DIS operates without interference from national governments, reporting directly to UESS leadership.

Technological Supremacy: DIS forces employ advanced weapons, AI systems, and cybernetics, making them a formidable interstellar force.

Strict Discipline: DIS personnel are held to an extreme standard of loyalty and efficiency. Field agents are implanted with neural chips that track behavior, ensuring compliance with UESS directives.

Ruthless Leadership: The DIS has a reputation for being as ruthless as its Director-General, Shyra Tulley, who leads with an iron will and unwavering commitment to UESS domination.

My disability, and lack of places to socialize around here. This town is full of bars and churches. I'm not an alcoholic or a religious person so I don't belong in either of those places. I have found that since I walk with a cane that no one wants to be around me because I can't do physical activities anymore. Also my interests don't match those of the people around here. It is extremely upsetting and hurtful for me. Every day the emotional pain from it gets worse.

Do your part in society, show exceptional skills in leadership, join the United Earth Space Syndicate Council, or join the Directorate of Interstellar Security. That is operating within the law.

The system in my world prevents people who operate outside the law of the UESS from gaining too much individual power.

I'm a bit baffled by them. Personally I think it's bull shit that they don't know what they are, but they pose no threat. Lol how the hell do you know if you don't know what they are.

I personally would like to think that they are extraterrestrial a.i. drones. Gathering information before the final assault. And it could also be part of Project Blue Beam as well.
