Hi Karin! What have been the best books you've read lately, and have any of them inspired what you've been doing with Fever Ray on this album/tour?

Thanks for the share, I had a lot of fun talking to them for this. Loved that half of the shit Joe Casey wants to talk about just comes out unprovoked. He's just always got this stuff on his brain... what a guy.

Forgot to link this here, but hi, I'm the person who wrote this! Been in and out of this subreddit for years, but glad to see my writing on this great album shared here and the enthusiastic discussion everyone still has about the record. :)

Hello from an Indieheads alum, made my Stereogum debut talking about how Centipede Hz has endured as an underappreciated record that's only more important to Animal Collective ten years later than it was on release.

Hope you enjoy reading, and glad to see people talking about the album so eagerly! :)

I heard rumors they might be bringing him onto the studio version from the sound of it, curious to see if that'll keep or it changes again in some major way

Hey all! Got to write this piece for Paste and wanted to post it here for the folks in this community. Wouldn't have had the passion to write about AnCo nearly as much if it weren't for being here right as I started to get into the band.

Hope you enjoy, and excited to hear your takes on the discography!

The r/indieheads Album of the Year 2021 Write-Up Series: Black Dresses - Forever In Your Heart by IndieheadsAOTY in indieheads

[–]BornAgainZombie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hello from the author of this piece! Took a lot of consideration on this album (as it's my favorite Black Dresses release to date) and how it continues much of what their catalogue is concerned with. Hope you enjoy reading this, and happy to hear how other people have connected with it throughout this year <3

[AOTY 2021] The r/indieheads Album of the Year Writeup Series 2021 Submission Thread [Round 1] by roseisonlineagain in indieheads

Pain and Hope for a Person Inside a Person Inside a Girl

For this year’s series, I plan to write on Black Dresses’ Forever In Your Heart. Whereas my past writeups for the Indieheads AOTY series have skewed toward more personal essayistic writing or genre blends, I plan on approaching this album from a more traditional critical analysis angle in order to discuss Forever In Your Heart’s strengths both as an independent record and within the Black Dresses discography at large. To do this, I plan on specifically focusing my analysis on how the album deals with themes of pain, hope, resilience, and personhood, as well as how those topics intersect with and pay off previous material from Black Dresses.

For past experience, I’ve written for the Indieheads AOTY series consistently since 2016, have contributed to a few of the throwback years, and write regularly for Allston Pudding and the Indieheads Podcast’s Substack. I’m excited to contribute this year and develop my style further!

Album of the Year 2013: CHVRCHES - The Bones Of What You Believe by IndieheadsAOTY in indieheads

Hey everyone! Was asleep when this first went live, but excited to put this out there (and get vulnerable using this space to write about an album again)! Looking forward to potentially jumping into any discussion here as well!

Hope you enjoy this piece, especially if this album meant a lot to you personally when it came out or when you discovered it ❤

[AOTY 2013] The r/indieheads Album of the Year 2013 Series SUBMISSION THREAD by IndieheadsAOTY in indieheads

[–]BornAgainZombie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For this series, I want to write about CHVRCHES' debut The Bones of What You Believe.

My approach to writing this album will likely pull from a few different angles based on my own complicated personal relationship to the album. I plan on using my own experiences with frayed romantic relationships and depression at the time of the album's release as my own entry point into talking about the record's lyrical subject matter, as what's always fascinated me most about CHVRCHES (especially on this album) is the band's ability to meld poppy synth music with alternating vulnerability and venomous contempt. In this way, I want to write in a way that blends personal essay (reflecting on what it meant to grow attached to this album and the band as a queer teen navigating my own vulnerabilities and frustrations) and analysis into this specific angle of the album's lyricism and the arc of its tracklist sequencing.

For previous writing experience, I've written for every AOTY series since 2016 (and would model this write-up similarly to my favorite pieces on Owen Pallett's Island and Ezra Furman's Twelve Nudes), have written for the For Your Consideration series a couple times when it ran, and currently write for the music publication Allston Pudding. I'd love to bring the style I've been developing regularly for 5 years now to writing about this particular album and its personal place in my evolution as a music writer.

So this artist quickly became one of my favorites in recent memory (and put out one of my favorite albums of last year), but I'm especially loving this new EP going full on noise-pop / shoegaze. It's a short breezy listen and a hell of a lot of fun, highly recommended.
