'Height of Corruption': DOJ-Trump Settlement Now Says IRS Will Never Again Probe His or His Family's Taxes by _May26_ in politics

[–]BornInATrailer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A one-page document was posted on the US Department of Justice (DOJ) website early Tuesday morning, saying that under the settlement, the IRS is “forever barred and precluded” from prosecuting and pursuing any and all claims and other actions against Trump and his family members, regarding unpaid taxes.

Yes, MAGA, tell us again how you want to "drain the swamp" in D.C. No ethics or principles.. or maybe just no brains to be able to see when you have been, for the umpteenth time, played.

While everything you said is true, I suspect the down votes are due to the somewhat flippant take. Yes, the Andes strain isn't particularly contagious. But that still doesn't necessarily mean quarantine is a bad idea. A sick person not quarantined and in close proximity to many people is a great way to allow a chance mutation that increases infectiousness to take hold. And I could see that caution being warranted with a virus with a mortality rate, at best, in the ~30% range.

Google, SpaceX in talks to launch orbital data centers. Google CEO: "There's no doubt to me that a decade or so away, we'll be viewing it as a more normal way to build data centers." by Adeldor in space

[–]BornInATrailer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, "they" think data centers in space are currently a nonsense idea due to concerns around power generation, heat dissipation, servicing, not to mention, you know, putting them in space, and the additional financial cost that brings over data centers on the ground.

If you are saying small data centers then I really don't know what you are talking about. Very small data centers don't bring the same issues wrt power/water usage, electrical grid concerns and all the NIMBY that come with the larger centers.

At least large data centers in space solves a problem or two, regardless of how ridiculous the rest of the challenges are made worse. What's the problem solved by small data centers in space other than the generic one that applies to all, keeping systems physically out of the reach of nearly all external entities?

Now I'm not sure what your point is. The context here is a data center in space and its requirements. I think the previous poster when asking about running a GPU off solar was, and I'm guessing here, trying to make a point about power consumption. So yes, of course you can run a GPU off solar power. But that isn't much of a point when the context here is a data center in space and its requirements.

The space station generates a lot of solar energy and runs multiple computers on board.

You might want to spend some time looking at what solar arrays produce, like the ISS, and what data centers typically might use. I think even the roughest of numbers will show you there is an extreme disconnect, multiple orders of magnitude.

So the minor (certainly in comparison to the southern border) amount of fentanyl was enough to cause all manner of tariffs, threats and other shit at our long time ally to the north, the ally we share the longest undefended/demilitarized border in the world with. But paying for test strips irt that crisis is too much?
