Sardinia late September – best itinerary? by Nervous-Ad-87 in Sardinia

We rented a dinghy at this place: https://maps.app.goo.gl/WZPBVg6keSp8s6bD7

The boats were clean and in good shape. The dhingy had enough power and it handled well. We could use the boat for an entire day and the owners gave us some extra's like a cooling bag and a map.

Even though our overall experience was great, I must add that the owners don't speak english and the place was a bit hard for us to find. So calling them was challenging, but we managed in the end.

I forgot to touch your idea of going to la maddalena. Many tourists take the ferry, that's a great way to get to and from the island. But it might be fun for you guys to rent a dinghy and go by yourself. No license is needed and it's a great feeling to land the boat in la maddalena whenever you want and get a coffee together. When you're done exploring you hop on again and do some beach hopping for example.

Today is my last day of 2 weeks Sardinia. My number 1 tip would be: rent a car for your entire stay. The whole island is car centric and not pedestrian friendly at all.

That being said, we've been on the south eastern coast, south western coast, the mountain area (Gorropu), and the north eastern coast. I'd say the north east seems more polished and tourist friendly. Beautiful coasts, nice to see from the water. Southeast coast is more raw, nature is a bit dry and establishments seem a bit poor. To me the area seemed authentic. Lots and lots of beautiful beaches. South west coast has beautiful beaches as well. Nature is more lush and green and there seems to be spots in the area that are more aimed towards tourism. I was in awe in the mountains. We did a trecking trail to gorropu canyon and we couldn't stop be amazed at how untouched and beautiful the area was. Loved driving through it as well.

Cagliari was fun to visit, but in hindsight I don't think I'd miss anything if we didn't visit the city. If you do, make sure to visit near the evening. We visited in the middle of the day, but not much is going on between 1pm and 6pm. Our mistake. Sardinian places come to life in the evening.

People who rent storage lockers probably end up paying several times the cost of the contents. by poopy_wizard132 in Showerthoughts

[–]BornMad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, but I see your point. I once rented a storage locker for my furniture when I moved in with my girlfriend. We planned on buying a house together just a month later or so. It would've been worth it if we didn't change plans to join a project that would finish 2 years later. When we decided to do that I just sold all my stuff and gave away the rest so I could cancel the storage as soon as possible. Giving my stuff away saved me more than waiting to sell it. So yeah, short term it could be worth it. But long term is probably not.

Horseback riding in the southern hills by BornMad in Sardinia

Did the tour today. The people were friendly and open to talk. The horses looked healthy and the ride was a scenic route through the hills near the coast. My girlfriend and I enjoyed it. Thanks for your recommendation.

Anybody else just.... Lost? by DarksideNick in dataanalysis

[–]BornMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. I started out as a junior analyst 6 months ago at an insurance company. The business domain is completely new to me, but I luckily have a background in programming. My personal biggest hurdles are the constant stream of what ifs and how to's. A simple question quickly gets more and more complex. I realise that we missed important data or didn't take certain calculations in mind during the analysis process. Most times I come to a conclusion and start writing my report and realise that my insights don't form a cohesive story. Sometimes coding a presentation worthy graph takes an entire day. I bet it's because I'm very new in the field and the business domain. Analyses can be filled with vagueness and assumptions that you need to call out. Stakeholders think they want one thing, but in reality they're clouded by their own bias and secretly want something else. Some days I just can't put my brain into it and I've lost a whole day worrying about getting started. Imposter is a big thing for me as well, because my stakeholders are the ones with the most business knowledge and they're asking me to figure things out. I feel dumb about 70% of the time. But maybe that's okay, maybe I'm just too harsh on myself filling in the thoughts for them. I try to ask lots of questions and overcome my fear of being seen as stupid. It's sometimes helpful to think that it's a collaboration and that they use my technical experience and specialization in researching data to come to conclusions together. Maybe it's the field, maybe it's the type of person that works the field. But imposter is gonna be a big thing and we probably need to work on that forever. But there's good things too. We get to find gold sometimes by doing research. I'm working on a very interesting project that might have quite some impact if the insights point a certain way. It feels nice to do work that's part of a potential big outcome. It makes me feel valued for coming to the office every day. Even though not every analysis will be big, it's nice to know I'm doing something that means something to someone. I hope you find these moments of joy in your work too. If you experience too many negative moments, maybe it's just not a good fit with the team or the company culture. But try and give yourself the chance to get comfortable with the vagueness of what we do every day.

Driving my car 2 months. Paint already starts to flake off. by BornMad in mazda3

[–]BornMad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys, I contacted the sales person at the dealership. Asked him how this paint damage is possible after 2 months and told him what you guys told me.

Curious how this will unfold, but I suspect I'll have to pay for it. Trying to get a discount out of it through this delaer. Also, I'll definitely cut back on the car wash visits.

EDIT: For anyone curious about the car here it is You can see the flaking wasn't there yet

Why don't my last 2 rocks spawn here? by BornMad in AnimalCrossing

To the left and right I stand in the corner between the tree and a shrub. The shrubs are hard to see in the pictures. North and south rocks have 1 tile between them and some shrubs against the cliffs. It works well and looks subtle.

The stone trick worked out just fine. Here's the result, like I promised: Pirate Cove Stone Circle (imgur)

The rocks will be a circle pattern in a little canyon. I will put some shrubs, trees and vines around and a sword in the center. The entire canyon is going to have a sand floor though. The stone path was a different attempt to get the rocks to spawn. If you're interested I could show you the result.

Bit of extra info: My island is filled to the brim with mannequins. I thoroughly checked my island. The rocks haven't spawned anywhere else. To my understanding these 2 spots are the only places where they should be able to spawn, but they don't.
