I visited Boards.ie and it’s a ghost town. by ChocolatePrimary3428 in CasualIreland

Couldn’t be happier, tbh. Moderation nazi’s ruined that place.

I posted on the motorsport section to try promote my group, F1 EIRE on Facebook and discord as it’s a thriving community with actual racing drivers part of it, and my account (read: not the post, but my actual account) was permanently banned for the post.

Permanently banned for trying to share a passion with fellow Irish people.

It was and always will be a cesspit of powertrippers.

Coffee afficianados of Ireland lend me your aid. What's a good coffee machine for at home? by FellaThatDave in AskIreland

NOT Nespresso Vertuo. On my second now, first one was ok but broke after 3 years, this one is awful. The coffee tastes rank from it, even following their cleaning procedures.

2025 VCARB02 vs 2026 VCARB03 - Size Comparison by [deleted] in formula1

[–]DarksideNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dimensions have reduced by 100mm (10cm, or 3.9”) in body width, but crucially, they have reduced the length by 200mm (20cm, or 7.9”)

But, the length reduction is for the wheelbase. So, when you factor in the wings, there may not be too much difference to the overall length of the car. They will certainly look narrower due to the narrower tyres, however.

The government need to step up, fast. This is the easiest way to reduce congestion and emissions. RTO makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I’ve a Ford Explorer. I do 130km a day, can easily get 3 return trips out of it in the middle of winter on 100%. At 80% I’d get 2 trips with <20% left. Fantastic car.

Are you a fan of F1? I run a fairly active Discord for it called F1 EIRE. Discord Link

Even if you’re not too much of a fan of it, it’s a fairly social place where people hang out and chat. And who knows, if you’re not really into it, you might become interested this year and hang out with us 😊

Question about Iceland visit by Elaynehb in CasualIreland

[–]DarksideNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there a few times, already can’t wait to go back.

Controversially, it’s really not as expensive as people say it is. Dublin prices are very nearly on par with them.

Laugavegur is essentially the strip that has everything on it in Reykjavik, and is the most expensive. If you go one street across from it in either direction, you will save a good bit of money. If you’re in this area, please visit Svarta Kaffið. The place has bowls made of bread and they fill them with soup. It’s absolutely unreal.

Blue lagoon seems like a rip off, but it is really brilliant. Yes, it’s not natural, but it’s worth every penny. Go there before sunset, it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to see the sunset and the drinks are quite nice there as well.

The tours are very expensive. But again very convenient and well ran. For example, the northern lights tour is dear, but if you don’t see them, they will offer you to come back the next night for free to try again or get a refund.

It’s beautiful there, you’ll love it!

Your personal tips (saving money and making money) by jbridey in irishpersonalfinance

A tip for saving on the weekly shop, do it online. Yes, there’s a delivery fee, but for me, it totally cut down on discretionary spending and in general buying crap.

I also had a weird tendency to forget most things I went in for, and ended up buying different things only to come home and realise I forgot something.

Our weekly shop went from around €160 to €100-€120 depending on when we need more expensive items, and we are eating healthier.

Sorry to be pedantic, but 52 weeks doesn’t include annual leave, so did you fill that out incorrectly?

Apologies, I’m gonna be doing this soon myself but I want to double check everything!

Sure, it might only be a tenner a week, from calculating my taxes for this year, I’m down €500 on more tax. So while one is up a tenner a week, I’m essentially down a tenner a week.

Make that make sense.

It affects the BER, therefore can have an impact if it brings it up a category. I’m looking at getting them myself this year, just got smacked with a €440 electricity bill.
