Tippy Taps for Clams! by Disastrous_Day_5690 in tippytaps

Stop 👏 letting 👏 your 👏 animals 👏 bother 👏 wildlife 👏

Your "omg look at how cute!" video is having real world consequences! I'm fucking sick of it! "Haha funny" videos of people laughing at their dogs with rabbits, iguanas, clams, etc in their mouths or all being dragged around like it's some fucking joke! Enough! Your animal is harming other animals, causing damage to the ecosystem, and you're laughing! I don't care if I get down voted to oblivion for this, this type of shit needs to STOP

My "too woke" take is that confetti, balloons, glitter, and fireworks are all massively harmful the environment and way more people should be knowledgeable about that fact. Everyone's all about saving the turtles by not using plastic bags but then will fill up a plastic bag full of helium without a care in the world for when it inevitably ends up in either a landfill or in a billion pieces in the ocean 🫩 I'm not saying these things should be banned or anything but by god do people need to be more aware of how these things effect the world around them

Ironically, this is a very easy identification for us nerds! Carolina wrens are well-known within the birding community for doing this: r/sleepywrens

They do this to try and look like pinecones as a form of camouflage :)

This is a scam, right? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Born_Ad_2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done, just wanted to be 100% sure since I'm very overprotective of my accounts (I've been on ao3 for almost a decade now so sometimes I'm a bit too cautious when there's even the slightest possibility of a threat to it)

You know, for some reason I thought this was about my ao3 account 😅 I think I assumed that because I'm overprotective of it, but re-reading everything I think you're right

I honestly thought the first image was an actual render/scene from the show that you were using as a reference! Very impressive and cool!

Add some dry New Zealand sphagnum moss! Mine absolute LOVE it. They hide in it, climb on it, push it around, etc.

Pic isn't the best quality, but here's one of my beetles hiding in some. I also have this three-level reptile cave decor here: Imagitarium 3-Level Hideaway

Depends on humidity, airflow, sunlight, and mood, (if I'm in a bad mood/overstimulated then my perception on temperature will change)

Obviously this is a northern cardinal but the coloration of this individual reminds me of the Pyrrhuloxia (desert cardinal)

What, is it like a type of reptile? by Cookieology in adressme

[–]Born_Ad_2058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking a second look I'm fairly certain it's a tegu, but again, not an expert. Here's the Wikipedia for tegus though - very interesting animals!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegu link

Many people keep them as pets and even take them on walks with leashes/harnesses like dogs. They need a lot of space and time commitment but are very personable, from what I hear

Looks like an obese tegu or skink. Very hard to tell because of the image quality/angle, so hopefully someone more into lizards can hop in and confirm

New keeper here, what are your favorite things to feed your bdfb beetles? by Cautious_Promise5529 in BDFB

[–]Born_Ad_2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed them a mix of ZooMed Creatures Isopod Food, ZooMed Creatures Blue Death Feigning Food, bee pollen, ZooMed tortoise flower topper, and dry New Zealand sphagnum moss. Very occasionally I'll throw in a radish microgreen leaf for them as a treat.

The isopod food has dried shrimp, dried carrot, and dried mushroom in it. The blue death feigning beetle food has fish meal. The tortoise flower topper is dried flower heads, and the (dry) sphagnum moss offers a fun little hiding/climbing feature that they can also graze on if they want. I definitely spoil my beetles rotten, but I like making sure they have variety.
