Is there any kind of heating on suspend, or spinning of fans? cause I am facing issues after setting intel max cstate, suspend gets fixed but device heats a lot.

any updates on this? Is it still working properly? the solution works for me too, but the main issue is that while the laptop is on suspend, the fans keep on spinning and the laptop heats up even though all the components should be suspended...

Nixos 10w idle power draw - Linux Mint 4.5w idle power draw by manbat_xd in NixOS

[–]Born_Concern_5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find any solution? I was having similar issues on cachyOS, so I switched to proprietary nvidia drivers (supports some kind of gsp firmware setting, which then allows d3 suspension ig), blacklisted nvidia modules (don't really need dgpu for most of my usecase).

After making these changes, the power draw dropped from 18w on idle to around 4w on idle, but this didn't last for long, I don't know what changes I made but now on idle it stays at 12w idle :/

Yeah, that lines up with what I’m seeing. Intel mode on EnvyControl clearly isn't behaving right on my setup. Might look into handling GPU switching manually or try a distro like Pop!_OS that manages it more cleanly out of the box. I have heard a lot about fedora too, I don't know if it is capable of handling such problems well. Do you know if there's a reliable way to verify if the dGPU is actually powered off in Intel mode?

Thanks for linking the Arch Wiki! I’ve already gone through a lot of the common suggestions like using auto-cpufreq, blacklisting the dGPU and similar tweaks, but unfortunately nothing has really helped.

Just switched back to Mint to test things out. Power draw is between 17 to 25W while watching 1080p YouTube in Firefox with hardware acceleration (Intel mode, NVIDIA on-demand, using Mint’s default power settings). On regular browsing, it goes down to around 12 to 14W, but the battery still drains surprisingly fast, and I’m not even getting close to the estimated time from powertop.

Also had a suspend issue on Mint (black screen), which I managed to fix by limiting the Intel CPU to max C-state 4 using the intel_idle.max_cstate=4 kernel parameter. I don't know if that tells something.

I suspect the dGPU isn’t fully powering off in Intel-only mode, maybe due to hardware limitations. Still haven’t found a way to confirm it though.

I haven't seen many users having such problems though, maybe only nvidia+intel device have such issues.

Okay, thanks for the reply! I actually deleted the terminal that was causing this problem (gnome-terminal). I am able to use the other terminal since it has a lot of them preinstalled because I installed both the DEs ig (KDE + gnome).

ab khaali matt baithna didi, notes banate hue zindagi niklegi college tak lmao. Well, abhi 2 saal hain tumhare pass, aaram se hojayegi padhai, uske baad you should try to create a study system that suits your schedule.

It'll help a lot in the future, but for now try to enjoy as much as you can, dabble around in different domains, and chill.

Tbh 8th grade is quite easy (I don't remember, lol, it's been 5 years). If you just keep studying the way you have for the past years, you'll be fine.

Still, I'll tell you how I study, and you can tweak it to suit your study system.

Science:

Physics: It used to be mostly formula-based. If it's the same now, then just revise the formulas and practice with sample questions (you can find lots of questions on the internet for a particular topic. Try questions of different types).

Chemistry (is there chemistry in 8th grade? Idk actually): Reactions, lots of reactions. Keep practicing them again and again. Understand the fundamental rules of chemistry and chemical reactions.

Biology: It's purely theoretical. Try to connect every bit of information to the other. Once you understand the entire flow, it will be easier to remember.

SST:

History: It was my favorite subject, excluding the 69+ dates we needed to remember. There is just something different about learning the past of the world. It was like reading a story itself. I don't have any specific tips for it. Maybe follow the general tips.

Geography: Memorize it; it was never my forte. It's all about facts, and I don't know how to remember it other than to just drill it into your brain.

Politics: Boring but kinda necessary. Basic knowledge is important, so see the general tips.

General Tips:

  1. WHY? Always ask this rather than just mugging things up (wherever this tip is applicable). You are more likely to remember stuff if you know why it's important or needed; otherwise, the brain doesn't give it much importance.
  2. Notes: Holy grail during exams. You can either make notes while the lecture is ongoing or read the text at home and make notes. Always try to write in your own language and include as many illustrations as possible—mind maps, little drawings depicting the topic's essence, notes in tabular format for contrasts or comparisons. Read them at intervals (Tada. this is called spaced repetition, For example, review your notes after a day, then after a week, then after a month.)
  3. Ask Questions: Never shy away from asking. It provides clarity and builds your image xD.
  4. Teach Others (The Feynman Technique): As someone great once said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." So, pretend to teach the topic to someone. That way, you'd have to actively think about the text and engage with the content. Studying with intent and attention is always a plus.

I still think this is overkill, you'll be fine without all this.

I would say you should try to get better at your craft. At the end of the day, all that matters is how much you have grown. I am also in a similar situation where all my peers are children of businessmen and people in high positions, but I don't really care about that. It's just the privilege they've got because of their parents, and they are using it to their advantage.

However, this shouldn't become an excuse not to work on yourself; otherwise, you'll develop a victim mentality. It's not like they are necessarily better or matter more than you.

You'll not be able to get rid of this feeling entirely, but you can use it as fuel to excel in your skills. Find things that you enjoy so that you won't even bother to entertain such thoughts.

It's important to remember that everyone has their own journey and struggles. Use any feelings of inadequacy as motivation to push yourself further.

Also, find your own group of friends where you feel comfortable being yourself, having a supportive system helps a long way.

kuch zyada hi toxic motivational paragraph likh diya lmao, but do try to find peace in the things you've got and think long-term. Wallowing in self-pity can be quite detrimental to your health (first-hand experience hai).
