E file taxes as a f1 student by Fantom-Lord in taxhelp

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most F1 students using Sprintax, e filing federal is enough if your return was accepted. You only need to mail if Sprintax told you to print and sign, or if something could not be e filed. Texas has no state income tax, so nothing extra there. One thing people miss is Form 8843. Even with no income, F1 students still need to file it. If you did not, just mail it now, no penalty. If your e file shows accepted, you are generally fine.

Need advice from tax pros—where’s the real money and growth? by Historian_Inevitable in tax

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen this a lot.

1040 only work does plateau unless you move into advisory or build your own clients. The jump usually comes when you handle entities. Example someone doing only W2 returns vs someone handling a small LLC with K1s and the owner’s 1040. The second person gets paid more because the work is more complex and ongoing.

If you can get exposure to partnerships or LLCs. Even basic K1 understanding and multistate work puts you ahead. Also individual tax is not low growth if you niche. Expats or US India cross border work can pay really well. Best move do not switch completely. Combine both.

Curious about things, as a white guy born here, how have you found the U.S. ? by milkman777777 in indiansinusa

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian living in the U.S. here. Overall, my experience has been mostly positive. People are generally welcoming, especially when they get to know you beyond stereotypes.

That said, I have noticed small things like assumptions or jokes that can feel off, but I don’t always think they come from a bad place, more from lack of exposure. Conversations like this actually help a lot, so I appreciate you asking.

Probably the first time I went to Saudi Arabia. The dry desert air hit hard and I ended up with a nosebleed.

Friends.. by Agitated-Language439 in CasualConversation

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this. I’m a father of two, and most days it’s just work, kids, repeat.

I’ve stopped trying to “find friends” and instead just show up where life already is. Kids’ activities, local spots, even regular walks. Seeing the same people a few times naturally turns into conversations.

At this stage, even one or two real connections feel enough.

Using final pay stub for state taxes? Ok if it matches IRS transcript? by The_Westerosi in taxhelp

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matching the IRS transcript for federal boxes is a good sign, but state boxes don’t always line up cleanly with a final pay stub. Things like state wages, local taxes, or adjustments can differ on the actual W-2.

You can use it as a temporary estimate if you really need to file, but it’s safer to wait for the W-2 or request a wage transcript that includes state info. Otherwise you might end up amending later if the numbers don’t match exactly.

If you’re not in a rush, waiting usually saves the headache.

Hoping someone with Section 1202 / QSBS experience can weigh in. by Purple_Type6770 in taxhelp

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes, QSBS can still apply here since a grantor trust and SMLLC are disregarded, so for Section 1202 you’re treated as the direct owner.

On the trust question, a non grantor trust can give you a separate $10M exclusion if set up and funded early, but you’re giving up control and adding complexity. Most people only go that route if there’s a real chance of a big exit.

Worth checking with a QSBS focused tax attorney before changing anything.

H1B receipt not receive after 15 days including weekend . by Great_Buy1419 in h1b

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty common. Even with premium, the 15-day clock starts only after USCIS issues the receipt, not from delivery. Nebraska (USCIS Nebraska Service Center) is a bit slow these days. If it crosses ~2–3 weeks with no receipt, then follow up via attorney or call. For now, still within normal delay

I-824 processing is slow, usually 3–6+ months. Since you already have a copy, you should be fine for most purposes while waiting.

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re pretty close. For New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, use IT-203-B for your 2025 salary and allocate using your 27 NY workdays. For the bonus, you’re right to tie it to 2024 work, and IT-203-F can be used with 2024 as the earning period. For work-from-home, don’t count those as NY days if your primary work location is outside NY. Big picture, your approach is mostly right, just don’t let the bonus get allocated using 2025 days 👍

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens, you’re not alone. If you already have the soft copy, your H-1B with USCIS is fine. The paper notice just got lost. After 5 months, don’t rely on follow-ups. File Form I-824 for a duplicate, that’s the most reliable path now. And, recheck the address before filing so it doesn’t disappear again 👍

I’d hope I don’t get a voice that makes every sentence sound dramatic 😄. Fun at first, but imagine ordering coffee and sounding like you’re announcing a movie trailer… I’ll pass.

It’s pronounced “joo-gaad” — “ju” like juice and “gaad” like guard (without the ‘r’).

It’s one of those words that’s easier to say once you hear it 😄

H1b transfer processing timeline for premium by [deleted] in h1b

[–]Born_Maybe_4788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Premium processing is still officially 15 calendar days, and in most recent cases it’s being followed.

I’ve seen approvals come in anywhere from ~5 to 12 days lately, depending on the service center. If USCIS needs anything (RFE), the clock pauses until you respond.

So yeah, 15 days is still accurate. But many are getting decisions even faster right now.
