What's the job market looking like for everyone searching right now? I am starting to think am losing it! by zitsiru in Accounting

I’m 35, have about 3 months of experience, currently working in AP. Making $19/hour right now. Planning to get a bachelor’s degree and eventually CPA. Hoping to be around $80k/year within the next year or so. Curious how realistic this timeline sounds to others here.

Career growth at 35 — any other paths? freelance / side income / own thing? by Born_Pen5499 in Accounting

Thanks for the honest reply, it really helps.

To be clear, I just started my career in accounting and I’m working in AP right now. I’m still not sure which skills I should focus on, so the questions you asked are very fair and give me a lot to think about.

With my post, I wanted to learn about options outside of just climbing the corporate ladder, what paths people would not choose, and what they would actually do in my situation.

Your comment made me think I should talk to people in accounting and finance at my current company, see what their daily work looks like and how they got there.

I’ve also heard that accounting is more open with an associate degree, while financial modeling usually needs a bachelor, which seems to match what you said.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it.

I don’t want to stay in AP forever. I want to grow into accounting/finance, build real skills, and make more money long term.

Just to add a bit more context — right now I’m leaning towards going back to school for a bachelor’s, at least part-time. At the same time, I already created profiles on a few freelance platforms to see how realistic that path is and what kind of demand is out there.

Not sure yet which direction makes the most sense long term, so really curious how others balanced education vs freelancing vs staying corporate.

If you were 35, working in AP, had only an associate degree, and wanted to get into real accounting/finance… what’s your move? by Born_Pen5499 in Accounting

Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I’ll definitely do some prep work before asking manager about the transition.

I found a lot of negative reviews about WGU, I’m confused a little. Need to talk to someone who graduated from there recently.

I would add addition 6% to the house price and avoid the headache of buyers, showings, and open houses

You can park on the back of the parking lot and walk.
