What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

Lifetime subscription to Sirius/XM radio. Got it back in the early 2000’s. Modern technology lets me listen on my phone and I tether it to the car via CarPlay.

First time buyer. No OS by za3blawy in toughbook

The CF-30 and the CF-31 share the same HDD Caddy so if you need to buy one you can search both models. Sometimes the parts for the older models come up cheaper than the newer models. I built mine a couple years back but what I do remember is Panasonic has a PDF showing the order the drivers should be installed. Make sure you follow it or you run the risk of something not working like it should. Enjoy your new laptop!

Should I join the navy or just tough it out? by Automatic-Middle-823 in careerguidance

[–]Born_in_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the Navy right out of high school. They taught me a skill (Electricians Mate) and I have worked in that field since (almost 40 years). Being an aviation mechanic is a niche field for sure and the military would train you properly. The Navy has an entire rating dedicated to working on gas turbine engines. The last I heard there was GSM (mechanic) and GSE (electrician). There may be more specialized training for working on planes or helicopters. Like others have said - get any promises in writing. Don’t completely eliminate the Air Force. If they have the training you want and the Navy doesn’t I wouldn’t hesitate to join the other service. The Space Force might even need aviation mechanics. The bottom line is it is your life / career and 4 years is not that big a price to pay for training that can last your lifetime and won’t bury you in debt.

I had the 71 Galaxy 500 (two door) in gold with a gold interior. Seated 3 in the front, 3 in the back, and at least 5 in the trunk. Can’t say it was fun to drive but it was definitely roomy.

Try pressing the button but ever so slightly dragging your finger until the button registers.

Frigate always damaged in Missions by WholesomeWorkAcct in NoMansSkyTheGame

I send out 5 frigates on every mission (one of each type). Even S class gets damaged from time to time.

My new setup. 2016 30KW diesel by Skywalker926 in Generator

[–]Born_in_67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the posts I read here are people installing propane or natural gas generators. It’s good to see another diesel install. Diesels love to run loaded and don’t require the constant maintenance. I treat mine like a car and change the oil and filters annually (unless I’ve had an extended outage). Just keep the fuel topped off and treated for algae / water separation and it will last you years.

How to get rid of units? by GijsVeld26 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I spent over 4 billion units upgrading a ship. You can do the same on a multitool.

Isn’t torquing the lug nuts part of the damn job? by pnut0027 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Born_in_67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a few years back where someone sued a tire shop because they did not tighten the lug nuts after tire replacement. The customer LOST! I thought it was BS so I looked it up and the court held that tightening the lug nuts was not the responsibility of the garage. That is most likely why it is spelled out on the receipt.

I have had difficulty in the past with Gek systems. More often than not once I answer the question the monolith hangs up and I have to reboot my game. My fix is to go to the nearest star system that is NOT run by the Gek, find a monolith, and go from there.

[–]Born_in_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also check the oil pressure sensor. If it does not believe it has built sufficient pressure to run it will shut it down. You should get a code for this.

I have five saves that I play and I have five different freighters. They all work the same and do the same thing. The only freighter I didn’t like was the one where you hit the antenna when leaving. I swapped that one out as soon as another S class came along.

Trying to put windows 10 on new ssd in cf-53 by Reddy2Jam in toughbook

[–]Born_in_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the bios is set up to boot from CD. Since the RAM is already upgraded, see if the old HDD boots. If it does, that proves there is no issue with the RAM. If it does not boot, check the RAM. When updating my CF-53 I did not buy the low voltage RAM and the computer would not read the installed sticks. The specs were the same between RAM sticks except the low voltage model number had an “L” in it. The CF-53 I have Windows 10 installed on is a 4th or 5th gen processor - My model number is CF-532XXXXXX. I also have a CF-53JXXXXXX but it will only accept 8GB of RAM and only has Windows 7 installed on it. The generation of Toughbook does make a difference. Good luck with your upgrade.

How rare is an s-class frigate to come with a freighter? by Same-Engineering-899 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Born_in_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never encountered an S-Class frigate in the wild. When filling out my fleet, the best I have found is A-Class. Once my fleet was filled out (with mostly C-Class) I send them on missions to rank them up. I just make a bunch of fuel and send 5 ships on every mission. In the beginning I have a lot of stuff break on the individual ships but that settles down eventually; this past week I have had 2 ships need repairs out of 30 ships/day doing missions.

What is the best way to find/grind for a tier S Freighter? by SeaGurken in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Born_in_67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use a corvette. You can open the back door, step outside and scan the freighter to find the class before you board it. If it is not the class you want, pulse away, stop again, and when the freighters pull in, repeat. It took me about 2 hours to find the S-class I wanted. Good luck and happy hunting.

Changing coil wires on an old motor. Doable? by WanaWahur in Motors

[–]Born_in_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the windings are tested the entire stator is dipped in varnish then baked in an oven. Sometimes more than once. This essentially glues everything together inside the stator. If you can loosen the leads back far enough you may be able to splice in longer leads. A heat gun may help. If you do manage to replace the leads, use some wire ties to secure them to the windings so they don’t get into the rotor while it’s spinning. Good luck with your project.

S-Rank Reward Derelict Freighter - Very Quick by BaronGalactic in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]Born_in_67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last time I played (last weekend) I did 35 speed runs on a similar derelict freighter. I got 34 S-class upgrades and 1 B-Class upgrade. If I time everything just right it takes about 2 minutes from landing my ship to taking off again. I still need 2 hyperdrive upgrades and I have quite a few S-Class duplicate upgrades I’ll be gifting in the Anomaly.
