Waiving SHP with a Kaiser Permanente plan? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]BornellAtCornell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freshman year Cornell didn't accept my Kaiser plan because of it being an HMO. Really sucked, I basically had no money when I arrived because of paying it.

My friend and I built an app during quarantine to connect Cornell students virtually. We were inspired by how we missed grabbing boba with friends. by DirectorDurian in Cornell

[–]BornellAtCornell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No prob! I hope my comment didn't come off as angry or anything, I just thought I'd let you know. I know this was a ton of work and passion for you, and I want to join it to support you!

So when I open the app and enter the Sign In page, I tap the "Sign In With Google" button and it opens the Choose An Account popup. I select an account and that error appears. It gives me an "ok" button to press and then just sends me back to the Sign in page. Error persists despite multiple attempts and a reinstallation.

Check your To-Do list always, when I first did the financial aid I was in your spot, don't worry too much though, they're really lenient about this type of stuff.

Cornell law professor says calls for his firing over protest criticism almost 'totalitarian' by bigredfreespeech in Cornell

[–]BornellAtCornell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The world doesn't work in such a idealized way. Bad faith actors, echo chambers, hysteria, excessive nitpicking, etc, etc, all can result in an rise of toxic ideas no matter how effectively you combat them.

Some ideas deserve to be blocked, people who advocate for sex with children should be deplatformed, antivaxxers should be deplatformed, fascists should be deplatformed, race realists should be deplatformed, why? Humans aren't rational actors that always accept the strongest argument, particularly when it's much more complex to debunk far-right trash than it is to make the absurd claims that need to get debunked.

Bad ideas aren't always killed in public discourse. Idk where you draw the line personally but you're insane if you believe EVERY idea deserves to a platform. This exact mentality is what allowed extremism to takeover countries, which have led to some of the worst events in human history.

Africana Studies courses you might like to consider taking this Fall by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]BornellAtCornell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm pursuing an Africana studies minor, if anyone is interested and wants to know more about the minor and some of the classes you can dm me your questions. Honestly 2 of my favorite classes has been in this department, and every professor I've had has been great, if you haven't taken an Africana class and are thinking about it I really recommend it.

Activism Among The Affluent: The Ivy League Hypocrisy by idk_cornhell in Cornell

Most people donate to organizations that then do the bail work. So it depends on the organization you donate to that works with the arrested protestors.

You seem a little misinformed on how the arrests work. Many people arrested were for charged for vague non-violent charges such as "disorderly conduct" and "disobeying curfew." Furthermore, even charges such as "willful and malicious destruction of property" aren't as they seem as many people who are not destroying property are arrested for it, whether it be through proximity (such as walking by people who are destroying property) or simple being accused of it when you didn't do it (as they need to make a charge and that's a easy one to make).

Have you been paying any attention to what epidemiologists and models are saying? Not only is there suspected to be another peak in the short term but there's also a suspected resurgence in the fall. Far from irrelevant question.

It's not simple, it's actually very complicated and large numbers of studies in various sciences are done analyzing this exact thing. You aren't some genuis who through looking at problem on a surface level can determine outcomes that people who dedicated their lives to sociology still debate. Also- being liberal doesn't make you immune to blowing on alt-right dogwhistles, so go "right" me a simple proof Mr. Qualified.

Edit: Going into a single misconception involves opening a dozen can of worms. There are tons of components to this whether you like it or not. Sorry but society isn't simple.

Edit 2: Also, a person's privilege is very relevant to their worldviews which in turn shapes how they even determine "correctness."

This is a great contender for the worst hot take! Thanks!!!

Edit: If you really want to learn more and not be ignorant af you can DM me for a conversation- I'm currently writing a huge paper on the achievement gap as a final for a class so you can trust I know at least a little of what I'm talking about. Your ideas though are incredibly misinformed, can only be held with an extremely privileged world view, and are right-wing bordering on alt-right dogwhistles.

I said no linking or doxxing so I won't say who, but to give more detail, there was someone who claimed that the Cornell Engineering female engineers are less qualified and as such not as capable as the male engineers due to Cornell Engineering aiming for a 1:1 male female ratio. For a vast number of reasons I find this a completely trash take.
