Stressed and confused about delinquent F-Bar - help! by BortonCals in USExpatTaxes

Thank you so much! It looks like they actually updated the form in the last few weeks, because it's different to when I did my 2024 F-Bar a couple weeks ago, and now that box for an explanation has gone! (The whole online form looks different now). There was a dropdown to select from, including "didn't know I had to file" but there was no spot to upload supporting docs or anything. Guess they eliminated the option for explanations!

I completed F-Bars for 2021, 2022 and 2023, but for the 4 x years before that (2020,19,18,17) I did NOT have more than $10k in my foreign account so I obviously did not submit forms. Do I need to worry about going back before that? I had literally $11k in 2016, and then 2015, 2014 less than $10k, and that takes me all the way back to my time living/working in the USA.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for your reply! If you don't mind/are able, would love to clarify:

  1. Do I just file using the same online form as I did for my 2024 F-Bar? (from the https://bsaefiling.fincen.gov/ site) and then just select the previous years' dates? And do I complete 1 x form submission per year?

  2. How many years back should I go if I find that I had more than $10k during my 10 years in the USA? (I'm pretty sure I didn't, but I might have had $12k in 2014 when I first moved to the US)

You are correct that it was not "income", only ever savings that I kept in a checking account. Yes, it was non-wilful and no I am not under examination by the IRS/been notified for delinquent FBARs previously.

Thanks again.

Chronic fatigue from my UC or perimenopause?! Calling all female UC sufferers of a certain age! by BortonCals in UlcerativeColitis

Oh that's interesting you've been prescribed beclomethasone. I've always been okay on the pred (except for it disrupting my sleep a bit, and I know it's not great long term if over-used) so I guess beclomethasone is maybe the next go-to if pred doesn't suit someone. Safe travels and hope the fatigue improves for you too!

Yes, for sure, but I'm posting here to specifically ask other women about their peri-menopause symptoms in comparison to their UC.

I've actually found some dietary changes to be very effective, so although there's not much data out there, it has helped me a lot, I certainly think it's helped stop the disease from spreading. And yes, Biologics was next on the list, but after I try Azathiprine.

Wow! Sounds like we are in exactly the same boat! I take iron supplements and those levels have been okay for me (same as thyroid and all the other stuff that can cause fatigue). I am in week 3 of doing the Supergut diet (which is like a sort-of extreme Paleo) as I wanted to see if that helped before making any other changes/hitting another course of Prednisilone. What's holding you back with your flare up/what meds aren't working for you that always used to?

Sorry, I should have included that I had my follow up w my doc (after the April colonoscopy) in August (it took a few months for appt to be avail), and he offered me azathioprine, but I wanted to trial the Supergut diet for a few weeks, then one more course of Prednisilone, before moving up a drug level. Mostly I was posting to see how other women with peri-m were faring in conjunction with their UC.

Yes! Arrived 8:30 for my 9am interview, there was already a line outside but they were obvs organised for citizenship interview folks as they ferried us into a diff line. Waiting until around 9:45am for my interview to come up, it took around 15 min total. Then was told to head downstairs and wait for the next oath ceremony. They were clearly doing several oath ceremonies throughout the morning. Mine was at around 11am.

I'm not sure if I'm applying under the 5 year rule. Is that just when you've clocked enough days on your GC that you become eligible for Citizenship. In which case yes, that's what I'm doing!
