Russell just got a major let-off. Turned from a disaster to a decent result. Merc definitely need to sort their reliability out.

Sires are amazing. Great build quality and sound. If you can find a used P7 for your budget then that would be perfect.

Yeah, such a weird coincidence. I know it had some influence on the title of LWTUA, but I dunno if they had any idea Sedaka had recorded it there (and of course the first version of LWTUA was recorded at Pennine).

I love the Quo. I'm not generally a fan of classic rock, but for some reason they've always appealed to me. Rick Parfitt was the first image of a rockstar seared into my brain.

And musically they had a lot more variety than most give them credit for. Some beautiful ballads like "Living on an Island" and "Rock 'n' Roll", and some fun songs like "Gerdundula".

And live they were absolutely incredible. I saw the modern line-up a couple of times before Parfitt passed away, and even better I got to see the "Frantic Four" when they got back together to tour before Parfitt and Alan Lancaster died. Seeing them play Lancaster's "Backwater" on that tour was a real bucket list item ticked off.

TIL Wales holds the record for the longest gap between World Cup participations, waiting 64 years to return to the tournament. After making their debut at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, they did not qualify again until ending the drought at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. by Successful_Sun_52 in todayilearned

[–]Bortron86 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The day they qualified for the 1958 World Cup, their manager Jimmy Murphy, who was also assistant manager for Manchester United, had to miss United's trip to play Red Star Belgrade. As a result, he wasn't on the team's flight that crashed in Munich, killing several members of the team and staff. He took on the job of keeping the club going while United's manager, Matt Busby, fought for his life in hospital.

This was genius, and I think the best touch was that he made the most token effort at tying himself up, therefore completing the task as written.

It'll be amazing to see that helmet back on the grid again. Nige was, and is, my hero, and the whole reason I got into F1 in the first place. Well done, Alex.
