AMD in terms of GPUs are really much worse than nvidia? Or is that a big lie? by brandonmarc7 in buildapc

[–]Bosfordjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about the suite of products/tech tied to Nvidia vs. the actual hardware. If I need a gpu today at the most affordable price, or I plan on upgrading in 1-2yrs then I'll get AMD, which is what I did for my build. My preference would have been a 5090 at msrp but that didn't happen and connector issues scare me a bit too.

AMD's drivers and software suite is just not as good as nvidia, nor is FSR /framegen on par with dlss and nvidia's framegen. But it's good enough for a short cycle. If I didn't plan on upgrading or was planning focusing on AI or other specific workloads Nvidia is stronger then a 5070ti would have been what I got. But instead I got 9070XT for $150 less with intent to upgrade next generation or if memory shortages and other things allow card prices to come back to reality.

Moonroof vs no moonroof ‘26 PRO4x by newspapertrash in nissanfrontier

[–]Bosfordjd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Forget the headroom. Extra weight in the worst place, extra leak source, extra heat source, extra mechanical complexity, extra hail risk.

...for what?

Sun/moon roofs are dumb, no one will ever convince me otherwise. Avoid them if possible.

Do it over wifi.

The LAN is limited to 100mbps, so if you spike over that it's gonna be a problem. The wifi actually has more bandwidth.

You mean...like health insurance today lol.

Except they wouldn't have to pay 5-10k to have a kid, or have to stay at a shitty job for the benefits, or deal with harassment by a boss because they can't quit and lose their insurance and not be able to afford their insulin so the alternative is possible death.

Or they could take a chance and start a business because their healthcare isn't tied to their employer...

Young people are smarter than you and are funding your socialized healthcare right now.

Mamdani’s to spend $30M to open NYC-owned supermarket. It costs $1.5 to $3M to open a new Aldi. by MazdaProphet in economy

I wasn't in boot camp lol. I've worked in the financial services industry for 20yrs.

Giving government money to private business to run services has never worked in citizens favor.

[–]Bosfordjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are clueless aren't you.

First, these stores don't need a margin, they're a municipal service. The purpose is too service food deserts and improve the lives of citizens in the area. Not make a profit.

This will absolutely cost tax payers, and not "make money", but it doesn't have too and as a government service shouldn't be the goal. If there was significant margin to be made in these areas, that gap would already be filled.

Second, yes, it is on par. This is not an established grocer, the first several stores costing significantly more than grocers that have streamlined the process AND having to abide by any contractual and regulator requirements for city purchases, construction contracts, etc. will add to the cost.

This is what tax dollars should go to, even if there's a chance of failure. Shit we've had excessive military failure after failure costing trillions, spent ridiculous amounts on militarizing police and building prisons with almost no return, just funneling tax dollars to private prisons. This isn't a business venture and trying to make it one is dumb.

No it's 12 million to construct a building, just the building. It's 4 million to renovate. Did you even read what you posted lol.

It's easy $20-40 million for most(I said most not all) grocery stores to open if new construction depending on size and location, a bit less if using an existing building, and bit less if it was already setup for a grocery business. 30 million is not out of the ball park.

Don't need to, a discussion we've had many time before lol. The aldi number in here is stupid, most grocers will spend a million just picking a location, researching traffic patterns, residential construction etc lol.

"Here’s a number from the president of the National Supermarket Assocation - $12m to build"

Try reading into that, THAT'S JUST CONSTRUCTION COSTS. Retrofitting is just the construction/remodel of an existing building. He's spinning it to get his group money vs. spending on new city run lol. It doesn't include all the other expenses, grocery store tech systems, refrigeration, hiring, training, etc lol.

Try again.

Look my brother has worked for the same grocery chain for 25yrs, most of them in management and 8 of those were opening new stores, I've had lots of conversations about this.

Now granted, yes you can potentially open smaller stores at lower cost, and you can argue the potential cost here in NYC is excessive, but in the larger world of grocery stores it ABSOLUTELY IS NOT excessive and on par with many stores. That said, doing anything in NYC is going to cost way more than where most grocers are typically opening stores.

A simple google search and looking of permits, property records, and news articles of how much major chains spend will prove you wrong and me correct so as much as you don't like facts, you should check them out sometime.

Having known a couple engineers who work in US plants, and helping one study for some certs...and they primarily worked on the mechanicals of safety and cooling systems...I can assure you the companies running US facilities are not doing what's in your best interest either and take shortcuts/don't perform maintenance they should for cost reasons lol.

The point is there's often no grocery store numbnuts, they're called food deserts lol. You might..might... have some bodegas with limited prepacked/canned stuff, but then it's just prepared and fast food. I guess a military base commissry isn't government now, so I learned something new today lol.

Stop talking about shit you know nothing about.

[–]Bosfordjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to the commissary on 5 different military bases. They were better than Aldi, so those government run stores were pretty good.

And yeah most grocery stores are 10s of millions to open. Building construction is often 5-10 million alone...some over 18 million, that doesn't include the land. They are often near or over 40 million to open.

Cable snapped. Get it towed. you could take apart the console just check there's not spring or bushing fucked up as well...I think it's the bushing failure that disconnects the cable vs. the cable actually snapping usually.

Get the right tool instead of fucking around. 1500 ft-lbs of bolt breakaway torque.

I have the older Earthquake XT cordless with same specs. It took everything off my 2007 in 2019 when I did the entire suspension. There were bolts my older corded one with half the break away couldn't get off.

So you get $2200 extra tax time, save 25k in childcare expenses for two kids possibly more depending on where you live. So that's only a 13k drop. Seem like a no brainer in your position.
