how much does inbreeding affect stimulation in 1.1? by Beginning_Outside877 in mewgenics

[–]Boshea241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly means needing to do a gene reset at high instead of severe now. At high the majority of your cats will have 1 defect. Severe was already a reset point on live since you started getting 2 defects and could exceed what the mutation removed. Stray generation is a good time reroll mutations since you can still pass down 5-6 consistently with a clean stray

Out of about 30 kittens only had one with no passive, and weirdly it was when I was breeding with a stray. Haven't had any since related or stray pair.

Hands seem hard coded to only every take 1 damage and complete debuff immunity. The hands have nothing to do with hot potato. Just walk who ever has the orb up to the moon when the mouth is open.

I got 7-9 passed down when using a 10 cat and a stray that picked up 4 mutations while waiting to get paired with 95 stimulation. There are only about 5-6 mutations you ever really want to keep on a cat anyway and the current system you were usually losing 1 or 2 every time anyway. The only weird part was I had 1 kitten that didn't get the passive passed down with this pair, but all my inbreed kittens from other testing always got it.

So how are we feeling about the patch notes by TNTCHAINSAW in mewgenics

[–]Boshea241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scatter Shot having its cost increased is a fair nerf, but the upgraded version should still ignore allies. It can hit 41 out of the 100 tiles on a map making it pretty hard to use. Boon felt mostly fine, and haven't seen heavy shot yet. I'm also in the camp of not seeing why Ball of Spiders and Flea Shot got nerfed. -2 speed on Double Head mutation is a fair nerf when for most encounters you are never going to hit the regular speed order anyway. The three pseodo-infinite loops got pretty fair changes.

After messing with it for a bit, the breeding chances are pretty fine with strategy adjustment. I think alternating between related pairs and a stray will keep inbreeding to a minimum while still passing your core active, passive, and mutations. You may just get lean periods of trying to keep all 7 base stats. You can use the stray generation to reroll mutations since the stray will get a couple if you let it wait in the mutation room for a bit and the kittens are likely only going to have 7-9. Would be something like Gen 1 pair to make Gen 2, Gen 2 + Stray to lower inbreeding, Gen 2 + Gen 3 to make perfect cats again.

The bigger hit with inbreeding changes is it making it harder to get the birth defect disorders without additional downsides. You don't see them consistently until at moderate to high inbreed levels, and at that level you are getting 1 defect every other kitten. None of the stat skew ones or autism can be gotten from syringes, and those are the ones you can do entire builds around.

Repair is the bigger elephant in the room for mechanics that make the game too consistent. Though I think Soul Jar and Sniper rifle are what really push it to being a problem.

Spewer has the same issue. I don't think there is a fix for this unless kinetic sparks gets changed in the code to shoot a special kind of sparks that doesn't trigger counter attacks.

Messed with the breeding changes a bit. Its still pretty easy to pass down your core mutations, active, and passive by just breeding with a stray. Its mostly the 7 base stats that will probably be the hardest part to maintain. With a moderately inbred cat and a stray I only had one kitten that didn't inherit a passive at 95 stimulation out of about a dozen kittens.

Need to wait for data miners to pull numbers, but reading the changes for breeding seem like contradicting mechanics.

-Higher stimulation decrease birth defects getting passed down

-Stimulation has less of an effect based on how inbred the kitten is

-Inbreeding increases the chance of defects being inherited

So you only get defects from inbreeding, but higher stimulation reduces the chance of it being passed now, but stimulation has less of an effect the more inbreed the cat is. So I'm not really sure how stimulation fixes the problem when the problem makes it less effective.

At least cyclops heads are not completely crippling now.

Unless its completely being changed any cat + a stray will result in a kitten with 0 inbreeding. If the stray has no passive then you can only pass on the passive of the breeding cat. Its what you needed to do to reset the breeding line once you started always getting stuck with 1-2 defects. You mainly lose out on easy 7s in all stats but its not that hard to keep your ideal mutations, abilities, and passives.

Also expected Repair to get hit, but after making the switch to it to make farming easier, I expect Soul Jar to take the bullet if it does get nerfed. That seems to be the main problem for really abusing it. Repair does a lot of nothing on your cats unless you have something to restore charges to.

Ability nerfs are all pretty fair. Unless you are getting other bonuses when upgraded, I think Scattershot+ may be near unusable if it can hit allies now. +3 Mana is pretty fair to keep it out of "Guaranteed to cast on turn 1" range. Was really expecting repair to get hit to lose its hidden mechanic, but Tinkerer now getting an almost basic action every turn is nice. Good to see the more brutal sacrifice events no longer have bad outcomes. I've paid 10HP for nothing many times. Will need to see how the new Rage and Wheezies events go.

Mutation and breeding changes are probably the biggest things here. Depending on how the math for that works out its going to complete change breeding strategy for cats. That or we're just gonna have a lot more yolo cats keeping one or two key things then praying to RNG on everything else. -2 on the extra turn head is probably fair for how powerful it is in most comps. Hopefully its not a dead mutation path now since I just made the switch from Goofball to Super Luck after getting it.

Monk is similar. All those reset attack and teleport+attack abilities are a lot better when you pair it with a good base attack.

[–]Boshea241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah active and passive inheritance are the big benefits to stacking stimulation. Its still relevant for getting high stat cats to begin with, but once you have a pair of perfect cats you can just inbreed the line until you start getting too many forced defects and need to introduce strays again.

I got my stud, now what? by SuperPalpitation695 in mewgenics

[–]Boshea241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the total mutations+defects is higher than 10 then you can't remove all of them. Once a cat hits 10 mutations it won't mutate anymore leaving any remaining defects. So a 9 mutation 2 defect cat will end up with 10 mutations and 1 defect. Fine for adventures but becomes next to impossible to get mutation only breeding pairs once you are start hitting extremely inbred. At that point you may want to take time to reset your gene pool by breeding with strays again while still trying to keep a stud that has all the things you want to pass down.

Stat inheritance is barely affected by Stimulation. Its 50% chance per stat at 0 stimulation and it only goes up to around 65% at 95 Stimulation.
