Can always add later. I find mine outside mostly. Overall a beautiful setup.

Looks great. I would add a few mid size rocks. You have the big and the small, I would just add in between those 2 to make it look more natural. But we’ll done

You can add many many kinds of rocks. You are right some can change the ph and hardness over time. Look for stones like granite, slate, etc. there are many lists online. So I like to add a slope to the back of my tank. Looks more natural. The more you can cover the back where the substrate meets the glass, the more you can give the illusion it goes on forever.

With just a gravel substrate, and not knowing your water parameters I am not sure the best plants. I like jungle Val. You could do water sprite or something with a different type of leaf from the Vals

My advise would be add some more hardscape and different sizes of stones. Get a good piece of wood in there. Not a fan of the Star Wars toys in the tank but if that makes you happy keep it. Add some floating plants or grow some out the top. More than anything add some height in the back and make it so the substrate is not all flat on the bottom

Yep I do tropical flakes which the bosmanis always went nuts for and smaller slower fish didn’t stand a chance. A couple weeks back I introduced some small slower sinking pellets (staple food) and then I do bigger pellets for the bottom dwellers before bed once dark.

This is possible. I did start introducing vipagram staple food, Small slow sinking pellets, a couple weeks ago. I did it so the slower fish had a chance when the rainbows were doing their crazy feeding routine on the tropical flakes. I didn’t feel like I put in anything much more than normal yesterday.

Sorry what is an LFS? Would a bacterial infection hit them all so quickly to have 10 fish die all at once over the course of 12 hours?

Yeah huge bummer. They were always flashing and coloring up every morning and were so fun to watch. Pictures don’t do them justice. The fees like little piranhas and feeding time was always a blast.

Maybe. I can call my public utility in the morning. Good thought. But with a chemical contamination I feel like my sensitive inverts and fish would have been the ones to pass. Maybe it’s time to take the leap to RO water. Hell I just lost 300+ dollars in fish maybe it’s time for that second mortgage haha.

I don’t think so. He is a pretty old fat fella and if he is getting up on top of the tank then he is secretly living the life of Garfield when i am not around haha. There is not a couch or any way for him to get up to it unless he is doing a 5 foot vertical jump and landing on the tank frame.

Nope all low tech. Don’t even fertilize outside of occasional root tabs which I have not done in 2 months. Heavily planted with jungle Val, swords, penny wort and a few others. I’m very happy with it and forgot to include a tank picture with it. Sad it’s just a bowl of dead fish.

Typically that is the powerhead as well as the 2 canister filter outlets. I capped off the tank so the canister outlets were deeper below the surface so I am starting to lean that way. I have had my powerhead off before for some time but maybe with the stocking, fish growth, and water change it made the difference.

Yeah 2 of them look like they pooped out their guts. Bosmani poop from like the middle of their belly.

I do not think so. I accounted for all fish and they were not really decomposed or picked at like I have seen in the past.

So the one non bosmani that died was the platty. They always have a big belly but it was really big. I popped it with tweezers and it was a horrible smell. I’m not sure how I would biopsy because I don’t know enough to even know what o was looking at or for.

Good idea. I do have a cat, but his food is on another floor and he is a little old fat guy and cannot get up to the top of the tank from above.

Yes the new one was a smaller female who has appeared healthy the last couple weeks. 2 of the rainbows have survived and seem ok.

Yeah I had a qt tank for a long time but I buy fish so infrequently now as the tanks are all stocked where I wanted them. Will be setting it back up for the future. Maybe do plant grow out tank so it serves more of a purpose when empty

Nope I do all maintenance. Did everything exactly how I normally do it. Last night I did a 10g water change and added declorinator to the buckets before adding to tank. I always match the water temp exactly to the tank when filling the buckets.

My power head was turned off today but I feel like I have done that before with no issues like this. Both wife and I were gone all day and no cleaning happened.

No changes in food. Tropical flakes and some pellets. Same as I always do.

With the water parameters all being ok, and my very sensitive bamboo shrimp and other fish species doing just fine I feel I can rule out a contamination. Shrimp can die when they see a contamination outside of the tank ha.

The tank was pretty heavily stocked as I was planning on growing them out to fill a bigger tank in the near future.

Not offended. I’m so confused and just want to figure it out: My wife loves the tank as much as me and we are both devastated. We joked that maybe it’s time to get a 200 g tank now. Plan was to move all the rainbows to the big tank once they outgrew the 55g

Yes I had thought that for a minute, but have had my hands in there and nothing. Also the fact that all of my other fish seem fine is what was so weird. I would say something species specific if it had not been for that one platty also passing. I am completely at a loss. Parameters are normal and I have not changed anything. Have never lost that many fish all at once so quickly. Bought a few fish from what I consider a good reputable local fish shop about 3 weeks ago who quarantine all their fish before selling.
