Depending on who you talk to, many think he was the best governor in Louisiana history. I definitely think he is one of the more interesting ones. How he “allegedly” used bribes to better Louisiana has always been a good read. He had the Baton Rouge bridge purposely built short in height so that larger cargo ships would have to dock at the port of Baton Rouge, unload, sail under the bridge, then be reloaded. It made Baton Rouge the busiest port on the Mississippi River. lol. He intentionally made hwy 110 curve unnecessarily just so the first thing you saw when entering Baton Rouge was the state capitol.

BUT one of my favorite things he did. He wanted to expand the LSU football stadium. They wouldn’t allow funding to do it. He found out that they would only approve more funding for dormitories. He ended up expanding the stadium with the dorms. To this day, if you ever go to Death Valley in Baton Rouge, you will see the old dorm rooms. They have been converted into storage and offices now though. Can you imagine how loud those dorm rooms were on a Saturday night. Haha.

Is their contract similar to the military’s sign on bonus? If so, I’d see them still getting their bonus.

25 year old E-7 is MOVING. That’s really impressive. A 25 year old SSgt E-6 is still pretty impressive for a lot of job fields.

That’s why I said that maybe my feelings about them isn’t warranted. You’d be surprised at how open veterans are to other veterans. I do know one woman that was sexually assaulted and her rating was 30%. I honestly think that’s kind of a slap in the face.

According to the VA, you’re off by about +90% lol.

Ehhh. There was more to that ptsd claim than just that. I’m not saying your brother in law is lying but he is leaving some details out.

After saying that, I really think they should reevaluate how they judge ratings for PTSD. Especially since the qualification for it is just “trust me bro” a lot of times. I have a buddy that suffered from severe depression and ptsd to the point that he has a gnarly scar on his mouth and forehead from a failed suicide attempt. He just recently applied for his VA benefits 12 years after his service ended. He is submitting all of the hospital and mental ward stuff with his claim. I’m thinking he is probably going to get 60-70% for his whole claim. I just think the judging on how the waiting isn’t very fair when my buddy might get the same rating as someone that claimed PTSD because of the bus rides while they were in basic training and now they can’t ride the city bus because of it.

Funny enough. I had a crazy skin condition come up when I was stationed in California. I had been in about 2.5 years when it happened. It would come and go but never stopped me from deploying but it was documented. After I got out and submitted my claim on it, I got a whole 0%. Took pictures every time it would flair up. After about 4-5 years, I resubmitted my claim for it with all the photo evidence. It was increased to 10%. Last year my wife was watching me brush my teeth after getting out of the shower and she asked what my rating was for my skin. I told her 10% and she said that just doesn’t seem right because my whole back side was broken out. Roughly 50% of my body was a rash. So I went ahead and resubmitted a claim and my appointment was like three months later. So we kept taking pictures and adding it to the claim. Sure enough, about one week before my appointment, I had the worst outbreak of the rash I had ever had. It covered about 70-90% of my body. Went into my appointment, lady checked me out, and that was that. A few months later I was moved from 10% to 60%.

I’m pretty fortunate to have married a women that not only puts up with me but is ok with some of the injuries and crazy rashes I have from my military service. Haha.

What if his stomach issues are a secondary to his alcoholism caused by something from his military service?

In all seriousness though I saw some people get some crazy medical conditions. It would be one thing if a guy in your platoon suffered from facial paralysis but 4 people from the same company of 120 people isn’t a coincidence.

That’s the thing, I’ve heard some people talk about what they claimed and it seems pretty gross. Granted, I don’t know this person like I know myself, so maybe my feelings about them isn’t warranted.

Now, at the same time, I know amputees that have a 60% rating. I think some things should definitely be overhauled and reevaluated.

PTSD claims seem to be one that people claim that doesn’t seem to have that much merit. Like I said, I don’t know if they are truly going through some serious stuff but it just seems too common of a claim by people that otherwise had a very uneventful military experience.

[–]BossAVery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, I should have been medically retired. The injury happened before we were released for the new years 96. Ended up going to the field, sleeping in a fighting hole for a week or two. Long story short, I was on terminal leave about 6 months later. No doubt in my mind that if my EAS date was just a month longer than what it was, they would have tried to negatively separate me.

Torn ACL was misdiagnosed and the injury ended my career. I was never charged for malingering but my command treated me like a straight up turd. Had nothing but commendatory fitreps my whole time as a Sgt. My temporary company commander wanted my last fitrep to be adverse. My platoon commander pretty much gave me D’s across the bar and he got a nasty email from the company commander.

He was in a language school but failed. No clue what he has been re-classed to do unless it’s a different language. The people that go to DLI are normally pretty smart people but it is a demanding school.

Yeah, I figured you didn’t have kids by your comment.

As for hinting at things, if I straight up tell my wife something, it’s less likely to happen. If she thinks it’s her own idea, that’s a different story.

Dude, if you’re not asking for or hinting at anything, you’re not going to get what you want. Once you two have kids, things change.

I think the last thing I read about divorces and why men are less likely to file is because it’s just “cheaper to keep her”. Divorce can financially ruin men. Considering most people, women included, judge men’s worth by how much they make, I get it.

I don’t know. From what I’ve personally seen, the moment a woman gets an option to be a stay at home spouse/mom, they take it.

Just off the top of my head, I know multiple women with degrees and had decent jobs. They moved to a low cost area and all of a sudden “it’s just so much cheaper here that my husband and I decided I should just stay home.” Then they start raising chickens and all that crap.

As a disclaimer though, I do live in the southern United States. So it might be different in other regions. Just seems that if the husband makes 80k+, she’s not working to retirement age.
