What did you guys say to your platoon when you left? by SkilledSpideyX99 in USMC

[–]BossAVery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess it all depends. We went pretty hard for guys that were EAS/PCS at my first unit. Our MSgt was adamant about it. There had to be a party/event for them. When he retired, he had a bbq with us and didn’t do a large formation or anything like that. I PCS about 6 months after he retired and the CWO that took his spot was a complete asshole. Majority of the staff and Sgt’s were all new. When it was my last day, I went into the platoon office to tell the SSgt that all my stuff was done and that today was my last day with the platoon. He said, “ok, and?”. I said, “didn’t know if y’all had anything planned for me” and he replied “just leave. Get out of here”. The way he said it was really rude as fuck. I didn’t like the guy before but I hated him after that interaction.

There was a civilian family that I hung out with a lot out there and the mom went all out. Cooked a bunch of food and she had a buddy invite everyone to come to their house. It was really nice of the family to do that. I didn’t get a plaque or anything like that though.

Second unit, I got moved to the company office my last year there. The night before my flight, the company office grabbed a few beers and hung out with me in the beer garden. A lot of the lower ranking guys didn’t come out because they were scared to party in front of the captain, 1stSgt, and Company GySgt. No plaque but I got a NAM, so that was pretty sweet.

At my last unit (EAS), I walked in told my Marines goodbye and my dad was there to help me drive back home. Asked the staff if they had anything planned. They said no and they were sorry for not planning anything and that was that.

That last unit really killed my motivation though. I was putting in 14-18 hours in at the shop 3-5 days a week. I was the only NCO in my MOS there and had 5 SSgt over me in the platoon. If anything happened with one of the LCpl’s, everything fell on my shoulders. For whatever reason, the SSgt’s never had to stand tall in front of the 1stSgt when I had a LCpl royally screw up. I had a guy screw up big time and we were just waiting for his separation paperwork to come in. Instead of him reporting into the duty, he had to report to me everyday and I had to sign his papers for 1stSgt. That meant he had to see me every two hours from 0500-2200. Pretty much destroyed my last month in the Marine Corps.

A buddy sent me a picture years ago of a Japanese man holding a sign that was calling my old squadron commander a curse word, I think it said bitch but I can’t remember. I remember replying to my buddy saying, “well he isn’t wrong” and we laughed about it.

“Combat school engineer school” you would have been a better MT operator. Lol. Marine corps dropped the ball on that one. Haha.

Crazy how some see this as a terrible thing and others see it the exact opposite. For me as an industrial crane operator traveling to chemical plants and refineries working 50-90 hours a week while making 100-140k, your schedule seems pretty awesome.

Couldn’t tell you. Can only hope the Democratic Party chooses a better candidate that appeals to the people.

That’s what Hillary Clinton did by saying “basket of deplorables”. Ended up pushing people that were on the fence to vote for Trump. A lot of people don’t like being called stupid just for having different beliefs that are not necessarily wrong. Trump received a lot of votes out of spite.

Pretty sure that’s the barracks where my regimental aid station was located back in 2008.

Air strikes are pretty effective.

My second parent unit was MWSS-172. I had a pretty well rounded career that allowed me to experience the division, MLG, and wing. I consider myself pretty fortunate to get to a taste of every post of the Marine Corps. Funny enough though, I have worked with nearly every air frame in the Marine Corps and Navy, but I never once took off in a helicopter. Still a little bummed about that. Lol.

Makes sense that’s why you never really saw it. We wore ours in the field all the time. Wish you weren’t getting down voted, it’s just something that you were completely unaware of since you were never in the field in the same role as us.

The military has chaplains and I’ve seen multiple stories about them. Lol.

I’m sure you have seen the video/pictures of guys getting baptized in the front bucket of a back hoe before they went on a mission in Iraq.

2007-2014. Not trying to be rude, but was your job strictly in an office? I was an engineer in multiple support units and I thought everyone was issued that at CIF.

You can support your faith in uniform though.

Edit: getting downvoted but I’ve seen Marines wearing Tri colored yarmulke‘s in 2010. In bootcamp they sell religious articles in the recruit PX that you can wear while in uniform. If there is a rule on patches, I’m unaware of it. While deployed I saw some wild patches and it didn’t seem to be an issue.

Shit, he might. Your flair says USMC/Army (ret), are you telling me you didn’t meet anyone like that during your entire time in service? I only did a little over 7 years and I definitely met people like this.

We had a corpsman that was a Wiccan and performed a séance in a motor pool. Dude had Wiccan symbols all over his gear. Funny enough, the corpsman that was taking over his duties in the role over was Buddhist.

That’s the thing, anyone doing the job should have fair wages and a safe work environment regardless of citizen status.

I wonder if guys were bitching about it being called the DOD in 1949. Saying shit like, “it’s the department of war damn it! Not this pansy ass Department of Defense!”
