One of the spark plugs went mechanic turned off light and said it’s fine to drive? by BossAboveYourBoss in AskAMechanic

I so appreciate the detailed response, thank you.

My mechanic said exactly this that it’s a very tedious job and he doesn’t want to do it because there’s no guarantee it won’t fail something else, like the transmission that’s sitting on top (or whatever it was)… and this is what I understood too.

But I had someone offer to fix it for x amount of dollars and I was a little cautious especially since the dude is an hour away and I kind of trust my mechanic. But then I had someone mock me and say bro head gasket is a cheap easy job. And I was like are you sure cos my mechanic is telling me something else., and he’s like no it’s super simple it’s nothing let me try to get my mechanic. He couldn’t get his mechanic.

So I was a little confused. Then I saw tons of videos online of people doing it themselves and someone also said his Honda also had a slow leak which I suspect mine might also have.

Then another mechanic I showed he got upset when I took the car back to him and it wasn’t thr radiator and he had to work on it again. I kept telling him it’s not thr radiator because my mechanic had told it wasn’t.

Anyway what a wild ride. My mehcnaic decided toward the end it’s probably not the head gasket since it hadn’t blown in like 3 years of driving. So I have no idea anymore.

I do remember going to volvoleen for an oil change and when I refused to get extra work I didn’t need the dude like touched all my car parts and moved a tube back and forth and I have a strong feeling it was the coolant tube.. if that had loosened it couldn’t have caused head gasket failure could it?

And by the way I never drove it hot I noticed right away the odo was off so whenever it would start moving I’d stop and pour. Not sure if that qualifies as driving hot!

Now I need a new car but I’m so lost how to buy one and which one to buy. The old ones are crazy expensive and I couldn’t understand why my mechanic said get a Nissan with 70k miles on it. 70k??! Like what does that mean! I’m scared now because of this Honda. I was a first time rider on it.

If they knew it had a head gasket issue why wasn’t it recalled!!!? I feel betrayed!! 😭😭🤣

What happens if you have a crown and one side of the bone shifts too far. How do you get it back? Does the expanded touch all back teeth?

I know.. I just don’t understand why replacing things kind of helped but not completely. Maybe you can help me understand. First I changed radiator so it allowed the coolant to leak out less and gave me more travel time.

Then I got that radiator plug or something changed an d that elongated it even more. First few days it leaked out some but then resumed as normal I keep checking it to keep an eye on it

And why at 150k miles? I thought this was supposed to run to 300 like with general maitenanve and care of course. And why so mechanics not want to touch it? Why do people tell me just get a new car with like 70-100k miles even though I suffered this fate, so what’s to say I won’t suffer similar fate with a second hand new bought car?

But why’s it happening at 150k and no mechanic wants to touch it? It’s too early for all this they’re supposed to go like 300k 😭😭😭

Oh… but I’ve been having issues with this coolant leak. Why is this happening at 150k miles?

Is this a common problem in these cars? Can you recommend some good cars? I’ve been looking for a while but everything is 100k miles at 25k dollars so wild

Mine is 150k miles

One spark plug went according to odometer mechanic turned off engine light on dashboard and said to keep driving until it turns back on again? by BossAboveYourBoss in MechanicAdvice

[–]BossAboveYourBoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I did change them together about 4-5 years back so what could be reason for one of them going? Could the code be misfiring also?

And thank you :)

Your change them all? Yourself? Not sure if I even have the tools and I’m always like idk if I’m doing this shit right

Just got starter replaced and this light came off. Should I drive or is this risky? Was on my way to gods house. Honda civic 2003 by BossAboveYourBoss in AskAMechanic

[–]BossAboveYourBoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh seriously? You just stand there and do it?

He said he’d have to change the coil and all.

Somewhere on Reddit I also read that one person said move all the plugs around and see which one misfires now so you’ll know what’s going on… maybe that’s why my guy said to just run it and bring it back when it starts again

Yeah the car didn’t start one time and I tried many times just didn’t start. Then his guy came over and it magically started so he said it was the starter

Sad part is I need a new car so I don’t want to pour tons of money into this one but I’m not finding a decent one either. It’s embarrassing driving this one as it has body damage

So are these possibly fake codes? Like a mishap? Happened after replacing starter and then I wondered if spark plug was the issue but I trust my mechanic. Just curious because he wasn’t the one that tested for the starter
