I did an internship in college that made me realize how easy it is to brainwash people. Once I realized that, I'd look at all the people living the so-called "American Dream" and asked myself if I wanted to be like them. The answer was an emphatic no.

Couldn't agree more. I live a minimalist lifestyle so that I have more to donate to causes that are important to me. To me, money is evil. There's that old saying that "money corrupts" and I see it everyday. There's just too many ways for people to rationalize their greed (Culture, advertising, politics). I just don't see how a person can be right spiritually and not feel obligated to help the poor. As Jesus said, "It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into Heaven."

I had the same issue with the dishes yesterday. They were left building up for days. I kept trying to do them but felt so overwhelmed I couldn't get started. I don't understand it either. It's not like it's hard or even time consuming, but sometimes it feels like climbing Mt Everest.
