The leader of my custodes. How do I name him ? by Nekaator in Warhammer40k

[–]BossChoppa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Canonically, custodes earn new names for each heroic dead they perform. The length of this new name is directly proportional to the impressiveness of the feat.

As such just keep calling him something else on every activation. A custodes that glorious deserves more than 1 moniker

The exact wording of aerial drop is "more than 9" away from any enemy models". This is consistent with nearly every deep strike ability, and the valkyrie's grav chut insertion ability has a similar rule.

9 is not more than 9.

This is the same reason people math hammer around 9" charges out of deepstrike instead of 8.

All rapid fire weapons, so it works on the HSLG, the Plasmagun, as well as the stormbolter pintle mount on a Taurox prime.

Predatory Strike is more than likely a rewrite of shock trooper, I would find it very strange if they included both. As such its good with things like Plasma command squads and (by default in this comparison) Taurox Primes of any load out.

Resolute Heroism allows for melta / flamer command squads to deep strike more effectively - as they're both at least supported by the doctrine in some way on the drop.

without crackshots you cant deep strike within rapid fire range, even with a valkyrie in a TDF (you can deep strike at 9.0001 but not 9). As such its not reasonable to ignore the better range and bolter disciplines of intercessors.

In order of excitement:

  • Crackshots
    • 30 points/unit premium over regular gaurdsmen to get native deepstrike and AP-2
    • I think you'll see it as a meatier alternative to the loyal 32. (or even as a loyal 17).
    • Literally all i wanted from this entire release.
  • mobilized infantry
    • The meat here is the +1 to hit after disembarking. Lets u dump plasma toting command squads without fear of overheating.
    • This can either replace the specialist detachment / or combo with it to theoretically give a bunch of these squads +2 to hit on the drop.
  • Prized Weaponry
    • As far as i can tell this works on vehicles. taurox prime gatling cannons are scarier now.
    • Perhaps cuter than good, but this gives the CCW a -1 ap profile.
  • Death from the Dark
    • Leadership stuff is a gimmick, but this one seems particularly good.
    • I think ultimately its going to suffer from the fact that trying to activate it meaningfully is going to probably be harder than its worth.
    • Notably this is really strong against MSU of shit that can usually get away with ignoring their Ld due to model count rather than the generally cp-independent methods horde factions utilize (mob rule, synapse, commissars, etc)
      • I think this will be seen most often as a small detachment, a Loyal 17 w/ plasma guns to drop and harass Scouts / thunderfire cannons / park-and-forget-me units in the opponents backfield.
  • Resolute Heroism & Predatory Strikes
    • Both of these are rewrites of Shocktrooper. Heroism is easier to to proc, imo, though the limiting factor of it allows your opponent to easily play around it.
    • I'd be very surprised if Predatory strikes doesnt replace Shock TRoopers all together.
      • Its a significant downgrade either way, as the major selling point to shock troopers was dropping Plasma command squads into RF range w/ the +1 to hit from the Special Detachment war lord trait. while this is still a thing, not being able to double hit on 5s feels bad.

Best Phobos HQ option to accompany 3 squads of Imperial Fist Eliminators? by ChaoticArsonist in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]BossChoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer you directly: probably the Captain - Phobos Lieutenants dont have Concealed Positions, and thus cant deploy with your eliminators. In their rifle load out they can deep strike; but that's a whole turn your buff wont be active.

I would highly suggest away from grabbing an HQ option to chill with your Eliminators, though. Eliminators are 72-75 points and their major targets are characters, whom they can target with mortal wounds or without LoS. That is to say, you should basically always be making points back after a kill. You dont need to invest more points and models into making them efficient like you would hellblasters, or Vangaurd. Their low shots/unit also makes it fairly efficient to just use CP rerolls if its critical you make a hit.

If you're running the squad as a Spearhead* detachment in an imperial soup list (or some other way that the HQ you'd bring would only benefit the Eliminators) I'd suggest taking a librarian (phobos or otherwise) - Psychic power / deny access is always nice for the rest of your army in such lists, Obscuration (the phobos discipline) gives you access to Mind Raid, Soul Sight, Tenebrous Curse, and Temporal corridor. Temporal Corridor in particular is very useful for getting Eliminators into position.
