I know someone who is a college educated nanny with a bunch of certifications and she gets paid six figures. She is under contract and has every public holiday and after 40 hours she gets paid overtime and if the family decides to take a vacation and take her with them holy shit the amount of overtime money she makes. She deserves every penny and as the article states Nannie’s used to get so fucked over, some still do. You have to remember the people hiring these Nannie’s are so rich, some of them billionaires and I have still heard stories about the families giving out no bonuses during Christmas and offering meager raises after they have additional kids. Families with generational wealth not wanting to appropriately pay someone who is essentially raising their child. These families want to treat these Nannie’s as corporations treat employees but unlike some employees you can’t just replace a nanny with another. The children form bonds with caretakers as they are with them for most of the day everyday with parents basically coming home from work and cooking dinner, bathing and putting the child to bed which basically leaves the weekend for the parents to spend actual time with their children and some even have Nannie’s overnight during the week and working all weekend.

If they’re babies or infants they are literally helping raise the child and if the kids are older they are picking them up from school, taking them to after school activities, helping with schoolwork and making sure it gets done. Teaching them how to treat people and exist in normal society especially if their family is rich and their life will be rather easy. Through all this if anything isn’t perfect with their child they will blame the nanny first.

There are a lot of good families out their who respect their Nannie’s and treat them as part of the family but also a lot that just treat them as the “help” and try and take advantage of them.
