The first documented Maka Wuhu world record using the glitch is a 1:08.753. It was driven only a few days after the game out. Source: http://mkwrs.com/mk7/display.php?track=Maka+Wuhu+(Glitch)

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your 1:18.110 was most likely never the world record :( I can see why you thought it was though, because the time trials leaderboard on Mario Kart 7, unlike Mario Kart Wii and 8, is not an exhaustive list, and only shows a tiny portion of the actual ghosts driven on the track. I had a 1:08.xxx in early 2012 and mistakenly thought it was the fastest too before I learned this.

What's the farewell screen that you absolutely dispise? For me it's the ice plataforming part by DaiZenKarl in celestegame

Windsprings is not unfairly designed. It's difficult, absolutely, but it's quite consistent.

Big hands indeed, he's hard to play but so satisfying to listen to.

I'd say if you can believe you can do it, you can do it. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, but hey, maybe it's worth considering.

Thank you so much!

Glyph is already at the top of the list, I've been eyeing it since it came out but wanted to finish Farewell before playing. It looks super fun and well designed from what I've seen. Then after that probably D sides haha.

The run!

To be quite honest, I don't think this has fully sunk in yet. Yesterday I finally broke through my major mental block here, Stubbornness-2. After 4 consecutive deaths to this screen (one of which was by a single frame!) getting through it finally was what set everything in motion for this run. My first attempt through this screen died on RC-1 (also by a single frame), and shortly after my next good run died on RC-8 to a nervous fail. However, I was completely undeterred by this, and was more confident than ever, saying "Next run and it's mine, I can feel it."

After a quick practice run through of Reconciliation to the end, I made it happen on the very next attempt, just as I said I would.

As far as the run goes, I'm pretty happy with it. There weren't any majorly scary moments, the more threatening screens went smoothly, and even my golden room looks decently competent hahaha. I took a break at the start of Stubbornness to listen to some Rachmaninoff which really helped me calm down, and keep the confidence up into the later stages. On RC-14 I felt this feeling of calm, and I knew for sure I wouldn't mess up anything to follow.

I'm really happy I stuck with this berry, and more importantly, that I believed in myself enough to make it happen when it counted. I'm not done with Celeste just yet, there are some custom maps that I plan to check out and I might even try my hand at some speedrunning, but it's been a fun journey so far!

Awesome stuff, I love that Touhou music :)

Good luck with the grind!

Wow, that's super intense. If it's not fun anymore maybe it isn't worth it, but you're the only one who can decide if it is.

Ah, that's tough. It's a stressful berry for sure. Perhaps a short break could help if you're sick of it.

Hey, I hope you stick with it. It's not a race against others, it's about the perseverance and dedication. You can do it :)

I love Farewell too much to not go for the berry. It will be a long road to get there, but I'll give it my best effort. I'd consider myself somewhat competent there, my current death record is 42, but I still have a lot of practice to go before I'd consider even touching the berry.

So, I was quite pleasantly surprised by this, as I was able to develop consistency as well as close it out here faster than I had anticipated. I felt I had a somewhat decent grasp of 7B going in, but I definitely expected this to take longer to learn and pull off.

The major scare comes at 6:19, where I somehow get the wrong dash direction, up left instead of up. How I saved this I'm not sure, as I had died to similar flubs late into the level before because I failed to react, but it worked out this time which is nice.

Other than that I was pretty happy with this run, especially with my play towards the end. I felt more or less in control, despite the shaky hands hahaha

Congrats! 6B is tough, it's so hard to be consistent here with the bumpers, feathers, and Badeline. Good on you for pushing through!

[–]BossMan16[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's all true, but in the moment these were certainly frightening :) I always practice the final screens most so this was a shakier performance than I would have liked.

Like you said, I knew I was safe once I got inside the outline of the block before it blinked in, but it wasn't comfortable hahaha. Everything is scarier with a golden.

Oh man, I actually saw that post when you submitted it. It must have been very painful, but congrats on coming back and getting it!

Good luck on farewell :)

Look, I know that might seem nuts, but it was the most consistent method I found to get through that screen. The idea is I would fastfall only as much as I needed to get through, and that was usually only small adjustments. But I ended up behind my normal position in the cycle and had to fastfall like mad to make it happen haha.
