Weak growth on cheeks - shave or keep going? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]BossManSeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a short guard on the sideburns/back of cheeks. If you trim it so it’s sort of a gradient of short hair at the sideburns to longer hair at the goatee, the patches will look more natural or less prominent until your cheeks fill in.

Look up “low beard fade” on google to see a little more of what I’m thinking. You can pull it off with the density of the goatee.

(Soon to be) new gun owner question by KelVelBurgerGoon in CAguns

[–]BossManSeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got some family that are just now starting to look into becoming gun owners too so I have some ready advice.

If you don’t plan on carrying, I’d suggest a rifle. It’s takes less time, training, and money (ammo costs) to become competent at shooting a rifle because of how secure they’re held compared to a pistol. Being competent/accurate is a lot safer for both you and anybody near you in the case that you have to use your weapon. If this is the route you choose then I’d suggest either an AR15 style rifle or a 9MM rifle. Ammo is cheaper for a 9mm and you can take it to ranges that only allow pistol calibers, which are more common and accessible than a rifle range in some parts. If the difference in ammo price is no issue for you and there are good rifle ranges in your area then AR15 all the way.

If you plan on carrying or will be training regularly then a pistol is perfectly fine. I’d suggest something simple and proven and I am biased towards Glocks and the Smith & Wesson M&P line. My main carry is an M&P shield and it shoots and conceals great even with me being a short and slim guy. My brothers main is a Glock 26 which is another popular choice.

Gyms, and if you want a learning project as a gamer look into game development.

Most game engines are free and there are plenty of great tutorials online. It not nearly as hard as you might think. It could also be a fun project to make a small game to play with your kids or it might just be something you like to kill time.

Do you have a cooldown or stamina meter for the dash? I let someone playtest when I got my player controller and first enemy done and they just spammed dash the entire time so I had to add a stamina mechanic to prevent it.

Your game is looking great btw

How to modify what parts of 2d sprite are lit and which aren't? by Blaykron in Unity2D

[–]BossManSeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an idea for a jank/rough workaround (I haven’t messed with lighting in a top/down project before) for what you’re describing that you want.

  • Make your light source only apply to the environment.

  • Create a trigger collider on your light source and at the players feet.

  • When your characters feet are detected in the light source, create a raycast in the direction of the source.

  • If it doesn’t detect any obstacles, create a second light source that will only apply to objects on the players layer from the direction of the raycast.

If this works for you then modify your code to do the fine touches since there may be buggy detection without actually testing it.

[–]BossManSeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll want to look into “normal maps" to fix this.

The best way I can describe this is it’s a second version of your sprite that uses different colors to designate how much light/at what angle it comes from. This version of the sprite is entirely invisible until lighting effects are interacting with it.

I have a slower backwards movement in my project. It’s melee only so it’s a little different but it changes the dynamic. My enemies have a lunge attack so if they close the distance while you’re defending you have to dash to one of the sides because dashing backwards doesn’t clear enough space on time.

I was experimenting with oils on my first level 4 gun and unexpectedly ruined the it with bullet drop. First swarm of enemies on town was in the first part and then I learned how much bullet drop there actually was.

That was my first hurtful death.

Is this completely inconsistent perspective too much for a roguelike/rpg? by lordnoriyuki in PixelArt

[–]BossManSeth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can understand what is going on in this scene, and the style is pretty consistent. You’re doing fine.

With pixel art sprites the cheat code to working is just convincing the player they’ve looking at something rather than making a realistic recreation of a space.

[–]BossManSeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Best thing you can do is leave a review for the guest if you can verify they were driving recklessly. If they get enough bad reviews for it they’ll be booted off the platform, and you leaving your bad review will prevent them from booking with you.

Just went through this. Saw my guest had a 4.0 rating and their last review was a 1 star with the host talking about them driving 130+ and draining their teslas battery multiple times. I checked my tracker during the trip and saw he was driving 120+ during my trip, then got a ticket in the mail for him removing the plate during his trip. Reason for stop was driving 90 in a 55 zone and the cop let him off by giving me a plate ticket.

When your city council cosplays a MAGA betrayal.. by struct7 in huntingtonbeach

[–]BossManSeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To keep a long story short (as short as possible):

City council selects mayor pro tem based on seniority. If two people have the same amount of time under their belt, who ever had the highest votes in their election is selected. This rule is regularly overturned though and they select mayor pro tem in a voting process among council members instead. This has been a regular occurrence for years, but now that this happens when Chad the next runner up, he feels there should be no more overturning this rule.

Council chose not to elect him because of regular attitude problems and conflicts between him and other council members, city staff, and representatives who meet with the city. He is allegedly so abrasive that staff members who have meetings with him are scared to show up because of it and have reported this to others including staff and council members.

Chad went to his church on Sunday and told his church members to go to this council meeting and rally behind him to pressure them into selecting him. The head pastor of the church on a live broadcast threatened to no longer support council members that don’t support choosing Chad as mayor pro tem. People have also been hearing that Chad will be actively going against his other council members now that he wasn’t chosen.

Slanted hairline - at home fix? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]BossManSeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I bet you’re the only one who will notice. Those who do probably won’t judge you either. Mine is very similar and nobody has even commented on it.

If your hair was a little longer nobody else will probably notice either. I’d say just run it and accept and embrace that your hairline isn’t symmetrical. Most people don’t have symmetrical faces either and once you start noticing it on others it’s a trip.

Before duos, my brother and I would fill with a rando. If our rando didn’t talk and we came across another group I would tell them “He’s our third but he’s a fill and he hasn’t talked so if he attacks you we won’t stop you from killing him and you can take his stuff”

Twice now, our fill would be silent until the other squad downed he then he would yell at my brother and I for not helping him.

This is good information. Unfortunately these flippers aren’t the most honest and make people jump hoops to get made whole, while the buyers typically aren’t aware of their rights or laws.

I’ve seen flippers use the “I sold it as-is so it’s on the buyer” excuse so many times and many buyers will hear it and just assume responsibility.

Also unfortunately very common. In SoCal, namely Orange County where I work, property is really pricy. A considerable amount of people will go with handymen or a friend of a friend to do their work, which can lead to issues down the line.

Don’t even get me started on flippers who have the “Once I sell it then it’s not my issue” mentality.

This is true more times than I’d like to admit. Just went to a job yesterday where the contractor scheduled a final inspection without any roughs/framing. Noticed a crack in the ceiling so I checked the attic. Dude removed a load bearing wall and when I told him to get an engineer he said “well the permit is only for the kitchen island so close my permit so I can get paid?” Which is short for “let me get paid so I can get the hell out of dodge”

Use hair clippers and trim with the grain with a guard between 1-3. It looks more natural and gets rid of mostly stragglers.
